“Beautiful hotel, gracious and entertaining staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2011

This small boutique hotel is absolutely charming. Right next door to the Colosseum and literally next door to the excavation of what is believed to be the "Gladiators' Gym"... The doorman is a charming and knowledgeable American who also happens to speak Italian beautifully. The young woman at the front desk upon our check-in was very helpful, stored our luggage as we arrived very early, and even upgraded our room when we returned from our morning of adventures. The other young woman at the front desk arranged opera tickets as well as a personal tour guide for us. The bar and restaurant upstairs overlook the city AND the Colosseum and the staff up there was lovely and pleasant! We check out tomorrow and I will say that should I be fortunate enough to return to Rome, I will stay here again!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in August 2011. We made the reservation through Jetsetter and we were so pleased with our choice. It is literally steps from the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, and the Coliseum Metro stop. Our room had a small foyer and a very large bedroom to the side. The room and bathroom were fully equipped. The bathroom was spotless and very spacious. It had a full size tub with shower and towels were plush. The bed and linens were absolutely immaculate and very comfortable. Nothing better than retreating to a super comfortable bed after a day of walking, site-seeing, shopping and dining in Rome.

Make your way to the rooftop terrace for a cocktail. Not to be missed, check out the view from the restaurant. If there are no patrons in the restaurant, the staff will be pleased to take a photo with the Coliseum as your backdrop. It is literally metres away. Unfortunately, our schedule did not allow us to have dinner at the hotel restaurant but from what others have written, it will be on the list for the next visit.

All staff that we encountered were extremely courteous and friendly. Everytime we returned or left the hotel we were pleasantly greeted and wished a good day. They readily held doors, offered advice and recommendations, and always with a genuine smile.

I would definitely return to this hotel and would confidently recommend it to family and friends without any hesitation.

I originally found this hotel on Jetsetter through Gilt. Was my first time choosing a hotel deal through Gilt.com. The prices were 50% less and even at their normal $500 Euro a night - the hotel is a 5 star gem, and one of the best places I have ever stayed.

The staff is very attentive and willingness to serve their guests as best possible. Some of the staff remember me by name and others just by facial recognition.

The rooms are wonderful. I was upgraded from the classic room to a deluxe room with a direct view of the Collosseum. It is a spectacular view right outside the window. The hotel is very central to some great cafe's and restaurants, which is nice. The area is residential and not very touristy, which is what I prefer.

The hotel was built in the 18th century and originally called The Gladiator Hotel and rightfully so, because outside the hotel in front of me, are the ruins of the gladiator housing area.

If you stay in Rome you must visit this hotel. Oh before I forget the FOOD is fantastic. The chef is really a true Michelin Star chef. The portions are just right and every meal has been excellent.

Ciao

Room Tip: Most people don't travel to Rome very often, so you should just splurge for a deluxe room with v...

My husband and I stayed for three nights in September. This is a small boutique hotel. Historic property, elegant and very comfortable. We were greeted with a complimentary cocktail on the top floor outside terrace then shown our room where they provided a chilled bottle of proseco. The bar and restaurant upstairs are wonderful and very much enjoyed our breakfast with a fabulous view of the Coliseum. The location is OK for a first visit but need to take a cab to other sites other than ancient Rome. May prefer a different location for future visits. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Did not dine in the restaurant for other meals as we were dressed casually and could not meet the dress code for dinner.

Stayed with my husband in June for our 2nd half of our honeymoon. I booked the room through Kiwi collection. Upon arrival Federicka (If I recall correctly) showed us to our room which they upgraded to an amazing colosseum view, and decorated with rose petals, a fruit basket and a bottle of prosecco. The hotel and room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The staff was very helpful in arranging tourist activities including a guide. Overall great hotel.

Room Tip: If you can avoid the last room on the top floor in front of the restaurant kitchen, you will avoid...

This hotel was perfect for a three day sightseeing tour. The hotel is the former training facility of Gladiators.

Breakfast is lovely and the early views are breathtaking. I recommend trying to secure a rate that includes breakfast. The restaurant is good but pricey. We had lunch there one day and best "club" I have ever had. But the views are unmatched.

We had cocktails after dinner two evenings and the atmosphere was lively and the service was great.

Our room had a view of the park across the street and it was lovely and less expensive than the rooms facing the Coliseum.

There is a convenience store around the block great for stocking up on waters, snacks, etc. Mini bar is not electronic so you can put your own in which is always nice.

We did a Segway tour of the 7 Hills because my husband broke his toe and couldn't walk distances. We loved it! We got to cover much more territory and had a great private guide for 180 Euros. This place is two blocks away from hotel; Rome Segway.

If I were going to spend time in Rome again I maybe would stay in Piazza Navona because there is more nightlife, restaurants, etc..

This is perfect for a first time visit to Rome.
