“Not go there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2011

The hotel room is the smallest of my italy trip.
The location is far away form the centre and all the attractive points. Only a bus - No.360 from Termini to the hotel and it takes 25 mins to go there.
The room, the bed and the bathroom are all extreme small
I selected to include breakfast by paying more but what a pretty the hot food is not included. We need to pay extra for eggs and toast. I stayed 4 nights and ate their cakes and corn flake for 4 days
Only 1 staff serve during the whole breakfast time and we need to wait for everything.

Room Tip: Don't go there it is too far from centre and needs to wait for bus all the time

The reason I put the word "nearly" rather than "perfect" in the description has nothing to do with the hotel, as such. Well, ok, it does have something to do with the hotel. There is something missing in the hotel. But it isn't a bad thing or something that's not a reason for staying here. Just something that would make it amazing rather than great, which it is. But first, the hotel is in Parioli, a quiet and pleasant well to do suburb of Rome with some excellent restaurants cafes and a small market nearby (we The nearby Taverna Rossini - about 5-10 minutes walk - is really nice). You can walk into town by day (about 30 minutes gets you to Piazza del Popolo and its a nice walk through the Park Villa Borghese. Or you can get a bus (the number 52 leaves from nearby)

Now the hotel: It's clean, modern with beautiful rooms at a reasonable price for Rome. We stayed here to save money as the hotels in the centre are expensive.

Breakfasts are nice (a shame that they have them in the basement rather than in the garden, but I guess that's logistics). The ambience of the hotel is cosy and friendly with very nice staff who looked after us well. The decor everywhere is beautiful. The building is lovely with a lovely garden where you can sit outside and have a drink. The area is also nice.

Now that minor thing that would make it perfect: There is a raised platform out in the garden which would make a perfect place to have a little swimming pool. For northern Europeans Rome weather is suitable to swim right up to early November with temperatures of over 20 degrees by day. From April to November this would make this hotel a great place to lounge around, rather than just visit.

That's just a thought. Otherwise I really recommend Villa Duse for (for Rome) reasonable prices and a great stay.

Room Tip: All rooms seem good.

We stayed in Villa Duse for five nights recently. We have been to Rome and Italy many times and this hotel was excellent in terms of room size and cleanliness. We chose it because of previous reviews which were very positive. Our view is a little more balanced. The breakfast is pretty basic even by continental standards. The staff were generally helpful. The only sour note was that we were told still water in the fridge was complimentary, however when we asked for it to be replenished we were told there was only one per visit. We are talking here about a 0.5 litre of still water!!! This seems petty in the extreme. Also while the location of the hotel was good be prepared to walk 10 or 15 minutes to the bus. There are really no nearby attractions apart from Catacomb Priscilla which is a 25 minute tour.

We ate in Ciccia Bomba ai Parioli, only a five minute walk from the hotel and this was a truly excellent dining experience. Although not recommended by the hotel, it was the highlight of our dining experience in Rome. We also ate in All'oro and while the food was exquisite and inventive, the portions were extremely small even by Michelin star standards.

We´ve stayed for seven nights and enjoyed every minute there!

The room was nothing less than phantastic (even the furniture usually is absolutely not my style) and the bed was the best that I´v had in any hotel so far!

The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The only thing they couldn´t help us with was a hot water bottle for my wife who had some tummy problems. But I bet 99% of all the hotels in the world wouldn´t have one either :-)

The location is quiet - for Rome EXTREMELY quiet! But you´re not far away from the city center though. You could use public transport if you walk 10 minutes down to the next square. There you have several bus lines and the direct tram to the Vatican.

The breakfast is very good but never changing. After a couple of days you have enough of the same ham, salami and cheese but that´s the ONLY thing that I would change! Oh, I forgot to mention the spectacular cakes they have for breakfast. I couldn´t get enough of the unbelievable carrot cake!!!

They are a bit pricey but if you consider the deep good night sleep it might be worth paying that :-)

Cannot say enough great things about this hotel! After spending each day out in the touristy parts of Rome, it was great to come back to a quiet and peaceful hotel away from all the hustle and bustle. Room was very clean and elegant, breakfast delicious, and the staff very friendly.

Upon our arrival in Rome, we realized we had left one of our cameras on the train, which was bound for Florence then Milan. After several failed attempts to phone someone ourselves during our bus ride to the hotel we told Irene, the lady working the front desk, about our plight. She went above and beyond her duty to make several calls, including to the Milan train station police, who ultimately recovered our camera, which allowed us to retreive it during our already-planned stop in Milan a week later. We are so grateful to Irene at Villa Duse and everyone else who were involved to get our camera back.

If you're looking for a great hotel outside the more touristy parts of Rome, Villa Duse is the place to go!

Very nice hotel, located at a quite neighborhood in Parioli area. The room was very cosy, yet spacious. The breakfast was really good, with a great variety of home-made cakes and great coffee. The hotel staff was professional and helpful, as it should be. In a 10min walk distance, one can find several dining options. We tried a couple of restaurants and they were great.

The only downside was the transportation to the city center. The area is served by the bus route 360, whose station is 2min walk distance from the hotel. However, you will be lucky if you wait less than 15 minutes, in both directions. I would say that in a 5-days stay we waited an average of 25minutes to get towards the city centre and another 25minutes to get back.

very beautiful boutique hotel, excellent service, very friendly and helpful staff. breakfast delicious.
some might say, it's little far out, but we enjoyed the peaceful area very much after the busy days in the center. bus stop around the corner and tram stop a 10 min walk away. taxi from the city was 10-15€ when we were lazy late at night... coffee bar and deli/bakery around the corner to get water and snacks. We'll plant one of the beautiful Corbezzolo bushes they have in our garden in sping - thank you for the gardening advice :-)
