“Excellent food, great location & price, hard-working staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

We went to Il Ciociaro tonight for dinner - 5/1/13. We weren't sure what to expect given that it is 'labor day' here in Italy/Rome, so we crossed our fingers. What a great bet we made! The food was incredible - we had the Fettucine Asparagie Gamberi, the Penne pepper, and the salmon steak. We also got the artichokes (fried + cooked) as appetizers, the 'hot chocolate cake' (I forget the actual name), and the caramel cream for desert. We coupled all of this with their house white wine and limoncello shots. This came together in a great combination of tastes. The staff was working incredibly hard, including the owners who were out there getting food prepped and cleaning tables up. We were really impressed with this restaurant.

“Fantastic! Our best meal in Rome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

We actually went back to this restaurant on our last night before our Azamara Cruise becuase honestly, the other restaurants, some of which were in the top 20, fell flat after tasting the food here.

Lamb Cacciatore - TO DIE FOR- so fresh and crisp outside and tender- the kidney was even still attached to the rack which made for a nice treat

everything we had was wonderful and our waiter, Nunzio was very quiet and unassuming the first night but really opened up when we returned on the second visit.

I had a pasta dish with a fish row and baby clams in it...it was the best pasta I have ever eaten in my life -my dinner companion did not care for it but if you are the type of person that likes the Tamale in a whole lobster or the roe in a scallop, you will love it.

I did not try the antipasto 'buffet' as I am not a big olive oil fan and there was so much to try on the menu, I am sure no one leaves hungary.

“Nice Dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

This restaurant was just down from our hotel. The service was good and friendly and the staff spoke some English. It's in the lower (basement) level, but was not overly crowded. We started with some antipasti and mozzarella that was quite nice. My husband had rigatoni with sausage and creame sauce. He really enjoyed it. I had ravioli that was also good, but not amazing. The pasta was all homemade. We had tirimisu for desert. A bit pricy, but excellent. The best we've had so far in Italy. With wine (nice house wine) the bill was 53 euro for the two of us, plus tip.

“A gem of a restaurant, hidden away but worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

We had been staying in the Vatican area for 3 days and wanted to have a nice family meal on our last night in Rome. Tripadvisor pointed us in the direction of Il Ciociaro, which was a short walk from our hotel. We were not disappointed. The welcome was friendly and there was no hint of the tables being cramped together (perhaps the owner had read the previous review and taken note). The menu provided plenty of choice and was well priced and the food was delicious. We would definitely visit again when we return to Rome.
