“Decent by Rome standards.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

My first thought on trudging my way from Termini station, was that Ciak is a lot farther away than it looks on the map! But a friendly welcome made me glad I chose this hostel. It's fairly small, maybe a little snug at times, but clean and comfortable. The breakfast is basic, but that is typical of Rome anyhow. Nice little kitchen, metro one stop away, pizza and snack bars nearby. I usually stay at campgrounds, but didn't have time to commute during this visit to Rome. If you want to do your own shopping, There is a cheap/fresh market at principe amadeo 184. Skip the overpriced supermarkets and shop like the Romans do!

Near by Trimini station, down town. Good transportation. Close to metro, tram or bus station. There is a supermarket near by. Staff is very kind and friendly. Nice and clean room (i took room for 4 female). Breakfast is not good. I don't know if it's better than nothing. But there are small kitchen so you can cook by yourself some eggs for example.)

Staff are friendly and efficient if you need something but otherwise keep to themselves. Bathroom was not well ventilated so a bit mouldy but otherwise clean, I did have to ask for toilet paper once, though it was Sunday and apparently housekeeping doesn't happen on Sundays. Room was clean though a bit dusty under beds etc. Mattresses average. Window was always open so mosquitoes got in at night, bring insect repellant. Kitchen was small but sufficient, free tea and coffee, decent breakfast. Same two tea towels for five days though. Free pasta and wine nights were nice and sociable. It is actually a lovely hostel, mostly clean and comfortable and quite relaxed. Easy walking distance to Termini and many sights. Talking to guests of other hostels in Rome it seems this is quite nice, and good value. Would choose to stay again.

I stayed there 2 times and enjoyed it each time. The staff is super nice and helpful. There is a free breakfast which is great. The bathrooms and rooms were always clean, It's very close to termini which was nice.

Our room was in the basement of the Secret Garden. It was not really clear at the booking, that we would not stay in the Hostel, but in its brunch. Anyway, they have beautiful images on their website... which are not true. How dare they rent that room, we stayed in? It could be a storage room, but not a bedroom.
There was little light, the window viewed to the street and could not been closed. First night we could not sleep at all, because of the street noises. The next day we have to buy ear-taps, because the stuff didn't do a thing about our complaint, they simply ignored us.
The bathroom was moulded, it had no ventilation.
There was no wi-fi in the room.
The breakfast... well it wasn't worth it. The so-called kitchen was also dirty.
Well, the area is a slum, even the Hostel didn't recommend walking at nights.
The other day we wanted to use the hostel's travel cards (they advertise it) but they left only one.
The stuff was awful, reckless and did not speak english (except the english lady who is kind but could not help with anything).
Do not fall for it, it is a cheap hostel whose owner wants to maximize profit immediately.

Room Tip: Ask if your room would be in the basement, but you should avoid Ciak at all.

I went to Rome during the Easter weekend this year.
Fortunately I stayed at Ciak Hostel.
Very nicely located, steps away from the metro station, very near to the tramway.
One could easily reach Collosseum by tram T2 or walk.

there are few reasons why I rated this hostel negatively:

1. room 2 is on the noisy part of the street. there are condensation and mould around the window and it stinks around that area. it took me averagely 45 minutes to fall asleep because of the traffic coming from the street.

2. the english "lady" is trying to be helpful and friendly but it doesn't work for her. she works night shift, and she talks too much and giggles too loud. after midnight she prefers to chit chat and laugh loudly with every single person that comes back late. she's also not particularly helpful especially if you make critics at her account.

3. breakfast is worthless! dry bread and jam and few biscuits. they better stop serving it at all. in common area there are few electrical outlets at the side where tables are. if you plug in on the other side you're risking damaging your lap top slots when people trip over your cable.

4. toilet/shower is small and dirty (at least in room no. 2 where I stayed).

All in all this hostel doesn't worth more than e 10 a night and in the end it's not worth a hassle.

Don't forget that you need to pay e 2 (per night) city tourist tax.
