This hotel was more than adorable and spotless to boot. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Cons
- There were no tissues – the only thing around was pretty poor toilet paper.
- No free internet – it costs a whopping 7 Euros for 3 hours, but was wireless.
- There was construction right outside the window. It didn’t really affect anything, it was just noisy and started at 7:00 in the morning. Perhaps they’re putting in a pool.
- The nighttime front desk clerk was not so good – he was okay with English but told us to “figure out restaurant locations ourselves”.
- Be prepared – the rooms are small, even for European rooms. But just enough room for two suitcases.
- The hotel doesn’t have a dishwasher, so the poor woman attending the breakfast area had to do all the dishes by hand, which meant at points there were no bowls, or no spoons, or knives, or coffee cups…
- No washcloths; as per usual of all European hotels.
Pros
- Breakfast was free! At least I think it was free; we never quite figured out where to pay for it or how to put it on our bill, so we’re only assuming. It was limited in choice, but still good for free – cereals (good granola, and something resembling cocoa puffs), baked goods, juice and coffee maker coffee.
- Could control your own heat/air conditioning - perfect! Also could open the windows and adjust the shutters too. Made you feel like a true Roman.
- Pretty close the Colosseum, about a 15 minute walk.
- The daytime front desk clerk was great – he knew great English and always had a smile on his face.
- The room was beautifully decorated! From what I read, all the rooms are immaculate, but room 401 was superb. Also, because the hotel is so new, the rooms were spotless and clean!
- Very close the train station, which made it very convenient to take the train to Napoli and Firenze!
- For as small as the room is, it had a fridge! Very convenient for storing some cheese bought at the supermarket.
- Super new elevator – you know it’s new because it has blue LEDs for the buttons. Though, the button for the downstairs floor where you eat breakfast has a down arrow when it should be an up arrow. Not sure if that’s a bad sign or not.
Tips
- Water is a must, but don’t be ripped off by the convenience store clerk down the street – walk just a bit further to your right and across the street you’ll find a very reasonably priced supermarket, where you can buy 6 packs of water for 2 Euros! Remember to get “naturale” water – the other stuff has bubbles, blech.
- There are two or three good restaurants, even if the hotel doesn’t know about them (they only recommend the one, it’s okay, but I’m not sure why.) Turn right out of the front door and go to the first intersection with traffic lights and turn right. Aim to eat dinner around 8 or later, if you want to be a true Roman. And buy a ½ litre of wine – you can’t beat the price!
- Buy a Roma Pass in the airport, which gives you free transportation for 3 days and entrances for free into two museums or archeological sites (great for skipping the lines too, just that alone is worth it!)
