My son and I spent 3 days in Rome at this hotel and found it to be exactly as advertised. We couldn't have been happier. They did a beautiful job remodeling and the rooms were modern and very nicely done. They offer an ample continental breakfast in the morning and the staff could not be nicer or more helpful. The location is with in walking distance of the Coliseum and the subway which makes the location very convenient. I would not hesitate to stay here the next time I travel to Rome.

Not a bad little hotel, an easy walk from the main station, 5 mins from the nearest metro (the cleanest underground station i have ever been to and really good value for getting around) 10 mins walk from the sights. It IS undergoing some work at the moment, but it didnt effect us at all, work didnt start until after 9am and stopped by 5pm, we WERE on the opposite side of the hotel though and i can understand it may be worse if you were right next to the work.
The bedroom was tiny, we had a small overnight case and if we had had anything bigger we wouldnt have been able to move, that said, it was newly decorated, the bed was more comfortable than my one at home, and it had everything you need. The bathroom was also very small but all new and the shower was fab (although my other half at over 6 foot tall suffered a few knocked elbows as he tried to wash his hair), all in all though it was fine for 3 or 4 nights - any longer and you may get cabin fever.
One thing i would suggest is requesting a room on the back of the hotel, ours was on the front and the road noise was quite bad, it is on a major road with buses, cars bikes and trams every few minutes (and you know how the Italians love to beep their horns) and the view wasnt worth the noise. It didnt stop us sleeping but some light sleepers may find it a problem, mind you if the road doesnt wake you up the usual inconsiderate shouting Germans will, so its not really worth worrying about!! Breakfast was great, fresh pastries and rolls from the bakery every morning, cereals and hot drinks and juice - we filled up at breakfast and didnt really need lunch! There are not really any places to eat near the hotel, but within a 10 min walk you can find some.
In the main you cant go wrong, its good value for money, the rooms though small were new, clean and had everything you need, the front desk is manned 24/7, good breakfast and location for the sights and rail links. The only down point is its location within Rome, this is not a particuly nice area, its the poorest and most industrial part of the city, very very dirty and covered in graffiti, we were a little nervous walking from Termini to the hotel (which we had no problems at all finding by the way!!) and i imagine in high season there will be a lot of pick pockets and gypsies around the station, but although we were a bit edgy at first we had no problems at all, everyone was friendly enough and once you are used to the look of the place it doesnt seem so bad, there are also a lot of tourists about so you are not alone. At the end of the day you want a hotel next to the Trevi Fountain then you will pay 3 times the price of this one and it probably wont be in such a nice condition. I would certainly go back to this hotel, once they finish the work i think it will be a little gem.

Mar 17, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

For a relatively cheap city break deal my friend and I thought that the location of this Hotel would be suitable for travelling around Roma to the various sites, being a short walk from the Stazione Termini, and were aware that the surrounding area would not be especially pretty. As expected, the Hotel was a decent distance from the nearest Metro station, a short walk from the Termini and close to a number of bus/tram stops but in a pretty nondescript area of town. However, the location was not the issue.
On arriving at the Hotel (having initially found locating it slightly infuriating) we were informed that there was a 'slight problem' with the room, and that our room was not accessible by the lift and the staircase was not complete. Confused, we followed the concierge into the lift where we were taken to the third floor. The concierge then took a deep breath before hoisting our two suitcases through what can only be described as a Health & Safety inspector's nightmare. We were led through a hole in the wall; the door way had literally been smashed out of the concrete wall. We then crossed over the open lift shaft which was covered merely by a plank of wood and a rug emblazoned with 'Hotel Best Roma ****' . The staircase was incredibly narrow and consisted of bare concrete blocks lined by a wooden banister consisting of various planks of wood of all shapes and sizes whacked together with one nail. I was reluctant to hold onto the rickety 'banister' for fear of riddling my hand full of splinters, not to mention plummeting to one of the basement floors below. Of course, we could not lean onto the other wall for fear of being covered in plaster. When we finally made this descent into the hell that was far from what the website had mentioned in its talk of a 'new facelift' we were taken to the room where a piece of plastic pinged off of the door frame before the concierge promptly tore it off. He gave us a jolly warning in the form of 'I hope you have life insurance' before chuckling to himself and disappearing. Once inside the room we were delighted to find various wires hanging out of sockets and a glorious view of the construction site that was the garden area. It was only then that we realised if there was to be an emergency we would actually be trapped in the concrete basement, nails and all, and of course there were no fire exits labelled as they didn't exist.
After much complaining/rowing with the concierge after we were told that there were no other rooms available until the following morning despite the fact he then checked in a couple to a new room out of the no mans land below, and then being awoken by a builder at the window and the harmonious sound of sawing at 730am, we were finally given a new room which was actually accessible and very nice inside.
Had the Hotel mentioned they were still completing huge renovation work on their website this might not have been such a hideous shock and would have been our decision as to whether to risk it. Instead, what could potentially be a nice, cheap hotel with good transport links does not seem quite ready to deal with any customers for a good few months yet. Beware of the basement.

On the amenities list at the site we booked from, Hotel Best Roma indicated bathrobes, slippers and free wireless in the common areas. They had none of the above. Other than that the place was great. Standard, maybe even a slightly bigger than Euro-average size room. The breakfast was good with pastries and a very wide selection of coffees from the machine. Something they don't advertise but is nice is the rooftop lounge, which with a couple of chaise lounges or comfortable chairs would be really nice in the summertime.

A great location just out the center of Rome but a 5 minute walk from the Metro A line so easy to get to all of Rome's main sights, restaurants and districts.

The room we had was the black room shown on the site here and was a great size, not huge but decorated to a high standard and the rain shower was a god send after a days walking.

The staff were great. Rooms cleaned everyday, fresh towels and reception were always on hand to point you in the right direction.

One tip is take a comfy pair of shoes as you'll find you won't stop walking things to see around every corner. Also don't get sucked in by tour touts by the main sights they seem to be rip of merchants. We booked a few trips through www.viator.com and they were great. Vatican City no need for tour guides.

Book this hotel and you won't be disappointed we will be going back there for sure!
