“First Visit to Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We booked our trip through Virgin Vacations. We selected this hotel from a list of available hotels and we were not disappointed with our choice. The staff was very professional and polite. They helped us successfully navigate our way though the city in three days. They also recommended a restaurant that we feel in love with. We found the daily breakfast to be adequate. Additionally, we found the rooms to be extremely clean. The bed was comfortable. Although the bathroom was really small, the room was a decent size. We stayed here in September so the weather was still balmy. The air conditioner worked great. I was a little concerned about the neighborhood from prior reviewers but we didn't encounter any problems as two women traveling alone. The graffiti on the buildings made the neighborhood looked worse that it really was. We didn't think the Termini Station was within walking distance, however, it was about a 8 min bus ride away. I only had two complaints with our stay. The only English speaking television station was BBC. I didn't come to Rome to watch television but we were in our room by night and it would have been nice to unwind from a day of sightseeing by watching television. Who wants to be reminded of all the problems of the world on vacation? Lastly, there wasn't free Wi-Fi in the room/hotel. It was a nominal fee but REALLY! Despite my two complaints, I would stay here again.

WE recently stayed at the Hotel Best Roma for four nights in October. I will say this, the things the hotel can control they did very well. The staff at the front desk knew the city well and were great in giving us tips on how to get there and were unfailingly patient in answering questions of both my wife and myself. I can't say enough good things about the staff, especially the evening manager. The maintenance staff also kept the lobby and common areas spotless and did a nice job on our room as well. I know some other reviews complained about breakfast, but really this was fine also, i have no complaints at all about breakfast.
As far as things the hotel can't control, like the neighborhood and room size it is what it is. the neighborhood is neither romantic nor wonderful to look at, but it is not unsafe either. we walked around a lot at night and never felt uneasy at all, the hotel is also along the bus line and tram line and only a few blocks from the metro stop.
My real complaint is with the room and this is nothing the hotel can really do much about. It is very small, literally a bed which takes up most of the room, there is little furniture in the room, becuase there is no space for it.There was a desk with a couple small drawers, but honestly there was really no place for my wife and I to place our clothes and we had to simply create a clean clothes suitcase and dirty clothes suitcase because we had no place to put our clothes.
there was a small closet which contained a safe and only had three hangers ( i guess this is something they could have done something about)
I know the hotel has a four star rating, but this is Italy not the USA and Italy's rating system leaves a lot out. Hotels with four ratings in the US usually have swimming pools, full service restaurants, fitness rooms and conference rooms. This hotel had none of those things. it had an outdoor patio where you can eat your breakfast and free wifi. Those are your amenities.
I know my review is long, but I tried to take the time to give an extensive and balanced review of the place.
If you want a clean place to hang your hat with a freindly staff, this is your place. if you are used to US style hotels with lot of room space and the amenities you would expect with a four star hotel, then you will be disappointed.

Room Tip: WE slept okay, but the rooms facing the street (Porta Maggiore) can be very loud since the tram and...

We arrived at Rome Termini Station on the train from Florence a little after 11am. We walked to the hotel which was easy to find (although we found a much better way to hotel later) so were arriving around 11,30am. Hoped we would be able to leave our luggage as check in not until 1400hrs, but much to our surprise we were given our rooms there and then. Check in was friendly and speedy which was fab. Our room was on the 3rd floor, a lovely room with nice decor, well equipped, spotlessly clean with a really lovely bathroom too!! Breakfast was continental and absolutely acceptable to see you through a morning of busy sightseeing!. The staff were helpful with tourist info and found them all to be friendly. The only thing I would say is the location means you either have a fair walk, which is fine in daylight but we felt a little iffy after dark or rely on metro travel which was actually very convenient and easy to deal with. All in all for the money paid for this hotel it was really very good and a perfectly good choice for any visitor to Rome. We would stay here again. Thanks for a lovely stay!!

The hotel is clean and the staff are helpfull but our room was small, and my wife and myself only look at the room as somewhere to sleep, but it was difficult for two people to get around in the same room. We both found the bed uncomfortable and we only had one pillow each. In this world of mobile phones and I pads we could only find 1 plug socket to charge our phones etc and that was in the bathroom. Maid service could not be faulted, the room was cleaned each day to a high standard. It helped if you like trams as they are very noisey if you are the front of the hotel.
Breckfast was ok but on the 4th day it was a bit boring as it was the same everyday, continental breckfast witn no hot food including no toaster.
Bought a drink at the bar but they would not take my euros fron Greeece, but also the local shop would not take them, so much for the single european currency. The hotel dose not exchange money and had to go to the railway station to get euros.
The hotel is on the tram, bus and very near the metro so it is possible to get everywhere in the city if you use them, get a tourist pass which gives you 3 days on public transport well worth the money.
This review may sound negitive but the staff are helpfull, the hotel is clean and well maintained but 4 star, no, not compared to what I expect from a 4 star hotel.

This hotel is a little bit out of the centre, but we still managed to walk to most of the major attractions. The staff were friendly and very helpful with info on bus routes etc. The room was a bit cramped but clean, and the breakfast was not great. But I'd still be happy to recommend it.

The hotel exterior looks run down, and not as the photos show on their website. Matter of fact our taxi driver almost mixed it. Actually on their website they only show a pic of the front door and not the street where it is located. It's a quiet area, but drab. Across the street is a large supermarket, making it convenient if needing to purchase bottled water, late night snacks, etc. The hotel is very, very far from any tourist areas, but close to public transportation; 3 blks to the metro and about 5 blks to the underground. There are a few restaurants close by, maybe 3-4 places within walking and all serve Italian food; if you're looking for anything else, you'll have to hop on the metro and seek elsewhere. The room we had was tiny and again not like the pic on their website, but very clean. We had twin beds and the room was very, very dark, with dark wood paneling on walls and floor and deep red drapes. The area where they serve continental breakfast was small, but served its purpose and there is an outdoor courtyard. Croissants and breads, deli meats & cheeses, orange juice and wonderful coffees. These are not baked on the premises, but look like they were purchased at the local grocery, but is filling and good. We loved the staff service. Friendly, helpful and asisted us when our luggage was lost by the airline. Not sure I would stay here again, because of the location, but if I had to, it would only be because of the excellent service.
