“Bit disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

Just popped in here for some food as it was close to the hotel. We were the only people dining in there so maybe a bit harsh to judge ambiance on that basis but to be fair they were playing "I will survive" which isn't generally what I'd look for in any eatery. To the food. We ordered half a litre of house red which was decent and well priced. Sadly the bread was stale.
Reviews on here claimed this place did the best saltimbocca in
rome. The sauce was great but portion size for 13.5 euros was not good. Could have eaten three of them and still had room for desert. My partner had ossobuco, was was ok, but very rich. Good job we ordered some potatoes to go along side as we would have left very hungry. Service was pretty surly even for Rome! I think disappointing is the best all round summary.

“Good food, service OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

My wife and I found this restaurant by accident. Nice location (little street next to Piazza Navona) and nice menu. The service was nothing out of the ordinary, but honest. I don't think they pretend to be a 5 stars restaurant anyway.

For the meal, we shared one caprese...delicious. The mozzarella was very fresh. For the primi, my wife got the gnocchi with the pesto (she really enjoyed) and I got fresh pasta with seafood (all very good). For the secondi, we shared the grilled lamb with a salad. Here again...very good quality..everything was fresh.

It was a good experience overall...but nothing fantastic. Will I go back? Not sure as there is a lot of places to try in Rome.

“Tucked away in a peaceful setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

We were lucky enough to find the Osteria del Gallo one evening while strolling through the backstreets trying to avoid the "tourist traps" in the popular piazzas. This little restaurant is a hidden gem. The staff was extremely helpful in making our evening enjoyable. The food was delicious....highly recommend the carbonara and the gnocchi with pesto. After dinner, walk a bit down to the Frigadarium for some yummy gelato.

“Hidden Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We found this restaurant while wandering around in the alleys in an attempt to escape the crowd of tourists near Campo di Fiori. This place was perfect! It is tucked away on a side street, is small and there was nobody standing out front trying to lure us in! The owner moved tables for us to make room outside and we enjoyed a leisurely dinner. We had two servers, one of whom seemed to be in training, but did an adequate job. The food was great. My husband had the best anchovies ever. My pasta with gorganzola, tomatoes and arugula was fantastic. A good value!
