We came across Romaround Tours while standing outside the Colluseum and were approached by one of their guides. We decided to pay the extra 9 Euros to skip the lineups and have a guided tour. It was well worth it!
We had a great tour with invaluable insight into many of the things you would miss if you went on your own. The tour was unhurried, very informative and fun. After our tour, we had the option of visiting Palantine Hill for no additional cost with another guide (Jennifer). We took the option and were very pleased. Jennifer is a great tour guide. So much so that we met up with her the following morning for a tour of the Vatican Museums. This part was also excellent. Again no lineups, great insight, no rush, audio system so you did not get lost with all the people, etc. The 31 Euros was good value.
Finally we did a walking tour around the Famous Squares and Fountains, starting at the Spanish Steps. This was in the evening. It was not such great value (20 Euros), as it started a little late (many in the group went off for a gelato before we started), it was starting to get dark and we had to rush through some of the sights to get to the Pantheon before it closed. Josh seemed like a fairly new guide and was soft spoken which made it hard to hear at times, but had pretty good knowledge of the city.
Thanks Romaround, we would recommend any visitor to Rome to use you. The extra cost is well worth getting the most out of these amazing places.
