We have just returned from a week at the A. Rivederci Roma.
The location of this hotel is excellent - within walking distance of all the main tourist sites.
The room was large and we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the bathroom (after reading reviews from many other Rome hotels). There was always hot water for showers, the shower cubicle was spaceous and had a good power shower. There was also a hairdryer on the wall and fluffy towels.
Breakfast was served in our room which consisted of tea or coffee, pain au chocolat, croissants, small rolls, melba toast, jam/butter/marmalade/honey. It was a bit too sweet, and not helped by dusting the croissants with icing sugar!! Another criticism was that the tea wasn't always hot enough. Nonetheless it was filling enough. There was also the choice of cold meats, cheeses, orange juice, scrambled egg, bacon at an extra cost. A small glass of OJ was 3 euros and it wasn't that nice. We found a small supermarket accross the road where we bought a carton of fruit juice for half the price.
The room came with air con which was great and not too noisy. A minibar which was very useful for using for our own drinks/food. An LCD tv which was great but didn't have many english speaking channels - MTV, BBC World News, CNN, and one or two others depending on time of day. A safe which was useful.
The front desk was manned 24 hours and all staff were friendly. Most staff spoke good English.
We found our room (103) to be noisy from the traffic outside despite the double glazing and asked to be moved to another room on our second day. We were moved the following day to room 203 which was quieter.
I must say that there are a flight of steps to climb to reach the hotel which may be a problem for elderly guests.
The hotel may be difficult to find without a map/local knowledge. We were lucky that I had written down the address to show the taxi driver who found it straight away. There is ony a small brass plaque on the outside to indicate where the hotel is. To enter we had to press a buzzer, and the staff unlocked the huge front entrance door to the courtyard. From there it is ahead, then turn right - not very well marked. The outside doors are locked on weekends and over night so you need to ring the buzzer to be let in.
A nearby restaurant "Da Baffetto" was a great place to eat and very reasonably priced.
Piazza Campo de Fiori had a market on Tuesdays. It is also a great place to have a few drinks in the evening. It is 5 mins walk from the hotel.
Overall it was a good place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel in a good location. The rooms were clean, spaceous and the staff were friendly.
