We spent 3 nights at the Domus Inn in a triple room using Airmiles and what a find it was. Although, as some reviews have stated, the hotel isn't in the centre of things it has a bus stop right outside with very regular buses both to Termini (which is the central hub for other buses) and to San Silvestre which is close to many of the key sites and another bus just around the corner takes you to the Colosseum, This makes the hotel easily accessible and it's only a few minutes walk to the lovely Villa Borghese.

The layout of the hotel is unusual and for the first day, when the lift wasn't working, the hike to the 4th floor was certainly challenging, and worth bearing in mind for anyone with limited mobility. However, the lack of regular facilities is more than made up for by the charming and very helpful staff, by the cleanliness of the rooms and by the value for money.

I particularly liked the idea of having breakfast delivered to the room and found the continental breakfast of juice, yogurt, croissants, rolls, jam/honey and a hot drink more than adequate.

Having read about the noisy bar across the street I e-mailed the hotel requesting a quiet room and they responded immediately and allocated a room at the back of the hotel.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

My husband and I stayed at the Domus Inn in July 2008 for 3 nights.

We were a bit taken aback when the taxi dropped us off at the front of what looked like an office block. The hotel is actually on the 4th floor of the building.

The hotel is a little bit out of the way but there is very good public transport available right outside the front door. The hotel was only 3 bus stops away from Piazza Spagna, which is then pretty much walking distance to anything you want to see (Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Forums, Colosseum, Piazza Venezia).

There is a great little coffee bar across the road where all the locals hang out. Plus the Rinescentre department store is across the road as well.

The room was very nice, air conditioned, and bathroom was clean (although shower did leak). Breakfast was served to the room.

I would probably give this hotel a 3 star but the staff were brilliant, exceptionally helpful, so on that basis it deserves a 4.

Overall, a good experience.

My Bofriend & I stayed in the Domus Inn in May 2008. This was a lovely hotel with cosy rooms& breakfast served to the room every morning. There was no other facilities in this hotel....but you don't go to Rome to stay in your hotel room. Will definitely be back.

With a family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) and too limited a budget to take two rooms, especially with the Euro running around $1.60US, we searched high and low for a hotel in Rome with a room large enough for 4 people, and with 3 beds. We found the Domus Inn, read reviews, contacted the Domus and found they had a triple available for the time we needed, and booked it. We are glad we did. The initial email contacts were timely and responsive to our questions, in good English, giving us confidence that we'd be understood upon arrival. The location was near where we wanted to be and the price was reasonable.

We arrived on a Friday at noon and although our room - promised for 3pm - was not yet ready, the attendant was very pleasant and helpful and urged us to leave our bags (there were many) with him. He suggested we come back in a couple of hours and assured that the room would be ready when we came back.

Oh, we should say that the hotel has a relatively unique setup. I usually think of a hotel as occupying most of a building and usually being the prime tenant in the property. Well, the Domus Inn is actually just the fourth floor of a perhaps six floor building, which houses offices, apartments, and other entities. There is a very small, European style cage elevator, and a stairway. Domus is on the 4th floor. The elevator accommodated 1 person and most of our bags. The stairs worked well for the others.

When we came back from lunch, the room was ready and we were pleased when we saw it. We had one queen sized bed and a sofa bed, along with a rollaway, as well as a small table, a couple of chairs, and a very nice balcony - big enough to stand on and look out at the plaza below. The bathroom was roomy, clean, modern, and well supplied with towels.

In the evening, solid door/windows kept the street noise to a bearable level - important because the neighborhood has a couple of popular evening gathering spots and is on a couple of well traveled bus routes. Heavy drapes kept the sun out in the morning and dampened the noise even further.

When we returned each evening, the attendant asked what time we would like our breakfasts brought into our room - the Inn has no dining room, and a small entry way serves as the lobby. He also asked whether we wanted espresso, cappuccino, hot chocolate, milk and/or juices to drink. Breakfasts were brought in on time, and served in our room at the small table. Good, but not great rolls, butter and jelly, some pastries, yogurt, and fruit each day was fine. Breakfasts were not fancy, but they were certainly adequate to start the days.

The staff was quite friendly and very helpful, anxious to offer directions for walking or public transportation and recommendations of where to go and what to do, or to make reservations for meals.

By the way, wireless internet was available for 5 Euros for the entire stay. Quite a reasonable price. And there was a television with international satellite news channels, including CNN and BBC, in the room.

We found the 9 room Domus Inn, which is really a hybrid between an Inn, a hotel - and a Bed and Breakfast - to be a wonderful place for our family to stay during our 4 days in Rome.

It is in a convenient location - near the Borghese Gardens and Piazza Fiume and within walking distance or a short bus ride of Termini - the central transportation hub of the city. Many buses pass by or nearby going in many directions, and it was easy to find our way back by bus no matter where we ended up in the evenings.

If you're looking for a world-class hotel with amenities galore - a workout room, a business center, a bar, a restaurant, room service, and a fancy lobby - look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a comfortable place to call home while you're in Rome and you don't want or need the extras, look no further.

My husband & I stayed at Domus Inn for two nights & we were fairly disappointed. The rooms themselves are fine, I might even say nice-- very tidy, hardwood floors, tile bathrooms & quite up to date. The staff, also, are incredibly kind & seem to go to great lengths to keep guests happy (ie they don't have a computer for guest usage but allowed me to check my email a few times. This was, however, awkward as I had to sit behind their front desk to do so & the staff member lingered awkwardly since I was in his space). In any case, my chief complaints are NOISE, NOISE & NOISE (if it wasn't the busses & cars whizzing by at all hours then the sports bar which is kitty corner to Domus Inn seemed to have a running stream of drunken Italians whooping it up outside) as well as location. Domus Inn is located a solid 20 minute walk from the Spanish Steps & really, not within a proximity to any sights whatsoever. We also had a very hard timing finding it as it was off any sort of central Rome map & I asked the hotel several times to send me clear directions & all they would say is take bus 38. That piece of information by itself didn't really help.
Also, I have stayed in Rome a few times now & previously stayed in a district called Tesstacio (hotel called Sant Anselmo, expensive - but worth it - & quite highly ranked on T.A.) & I have made a mental note to stay in this area if ever visiting Roma again. Tesstacio is quiet & pretty yet an easy walk to the Colosseum, Circo Maximo, etc.
Last, breakfast is brought to your room (no central space to eat) so it was kind of awkward to move all our luggage & personal things in order to create a space for the meal.
Look for another hotel.... Though the staff & rooms are nice at Domus Inn the noise & location far outweigh this.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, clean/up-to-date rooms
  • Disliked — Noise, location, no guest computer, no phones in room, eating breakfast crowded in our room
