We were 4 couples (all 45 – 60 years old) who visited Rome for a combined rugby match and sightseeing trip, and we had mixed feelings about this accommodation, to the degree that one couple felt sufficiently aggrieved to find an alternative hotel for the last night.
There’s no doubt that the location is excellent for sightseeing in the city, as all major tourist attractions are in walking distance, and bus/Metro routes are all easily accessible. On arrival, we found the location easily enough, but the entrance stairway and lift was rather a grim, dark experience up 3 floors. Somehow, we had misunderstood the website details, thinking the 4 rooms were each with en suite facilities, so we did find using just 2 bathrooms rather lacking in privacy and space. This would have been much worse had we not all been friends, so its a point worth considering if you find yourself sharing with strangers. One bathroom is right next to the breakfast table, so it becomes rather intrusively visible for the last-up person visiting the loo, with everyone else already seated. The bedrooms were stylish, well-equipped and clean, although those facing the street were a little noisy at times. Beds were not remade each morning, which one would expect in a B and B.
Strangely, the breakfast seating arrangements did not really cater for 8 people eating simultaneously (which we wanted and expected to do) and we found the food choice rather limited. One of our party is diabetic, and on the first morning he requested something less sweet, but no adjustment was made to subsequent breakfasts – meaning he ended up buying his own alternatives. We also ended up buying our own juice and fruit, as none were provided, which in our experience is unusual.
Paulo, the host, was chatty and helpful with our enquiries, but we do suggest the website could be made clearer about the bathrooms situation and the breakfast seating. After all, if the bedrooms are meant to accommodate 8, surely the table should be big enough for that number, as the alternative of eating in the bedroom may not be everyone’s choice. It was the combination of lack of privacy and noisy bedroom which prompted the frustration of one couple to seek alternative accomodation.
Overall, if you are on a budget for this type of accommodation, then maybe it’s ok, but it did not fully meet our preferences or expectations for the above reasons.
