We were 4 couples (all 45 – 60 years old) who visited Rome for a combined rugby match and sightseeing trip, and we had mixed feelings about this accommodation, to the degree that one couple felt sufficiently aggrieved to find an alternative hotel for the last night.
There’s no doubt that the location is excellent for sightseeing in the city, as all major tourist attractions are in walking distance, and bus/Metro routes are all easily accessible. On arrival, we found the location easily enough, but the entrance stairway and lift was rather a grim, dark experience up 3 floors. Somehow, we had misunderstood the website details, thinking the 4 rooms were each with en suite facilities, so we did find using just 2 bathrooms rather lacking in privacy and space. This would have been much worse had we not all been friends, so its a point worth considering if you find yourself sharing with strangers. One bathroom is right next to the breakfast table, so it becomes rather intrusively visible for the last-up person visiting the loo, with everyone else already seated. The bedrooms were stylish, well-equipped and clean, although those facing the street were a little noisy at times. Beds were not remade each morning, which one would expect in a B and B.
Strangely, the breakfast seating arrangements did not really cater for 8 people eating simultaneously (which we wanted and expected to do) and we found the food choice rather limited. One of our party is diabetic, and on the first morning he requested something less sweet, but no adjustment was made to subsequent breakfasts – meaning he ended up buying his own alternatives. We also ended up buying our own juice and fruit, as none were provided, which in our experience is unusual.
Paulo, the host, was chatty and helpful with our enquiries, but we do suggest the website could be made clearer about the bathrooms situation and the breakfast seating. After all, if the bedrooms are meant to accommodate 8, surely the table should be big enough for that number, as the alternative of eating in the bedroom may not be everyone’s choice. It was the combination of lack of privacy and noisy bedroom which prompted the frustration of one couple to seek alternative accomodation.
Overall, if you are on a budget for this type of accommodation, then maybe it’s ok, but it did not fully meet our preferences or expectations for the above reasons.

Thank you for your review, we are always open to new advices and hints.

Anyway here, you simply did not book any room with ensuite bathrooms. Anyone can check on Venere, the portal where you got your booking. On Venere we do not rent any room with ensuite bathrooms. And you paid the right price for this.. that is 45 euro/nightly per person!

On the other hand.. your friends lived. That's true. But I did not understand why they leaved also the lift open at night.. so as no one in the building can use it. Two glasses on my balcony, one full of cigarettes and wine, the other in the floor. Maybe they think I like to walk on glass at night on my balcony?

I did not understand the problems about the lift and the entrance. You know.. this is Rome.. a city of mysteries and story, maybe the entrance is too much mysterious? :-)))

For he breakfast. You are free to expect porridge in an Italian B&B. I will not expect espresso or cappuccino in a UK one. We are different in that, it seems. Anyway, among the cakes you have on your table, there was the pizza Umbra.. a famous, salad cheese cake from one of the best cooking district of Italy. Umbria. You finished it, with 8 croissant and another cake with chocolate, ricotta cheese and pears. After you finished there was no choice.. that's true! :-)))

For your diabetic friend. I did not get any instructions about the kind of food he needs. And I am a B&B owner, not a doctor and diabete is serious thing. Simply the first day he eat the salad cake, the dry bread, and some butter. The next day he presented himself with his own food. Your friend could ask.. but he did not.. as you.. for your orange juice. Next time I travel.. I will go in a hotel.. then buy some food and send a feedback about the fact that this kind of food is not present in the hotel. It could be an idea.. you know..

We booked a room at this bed and breakfast for our holidays in Rome. The photos in their website are very good. The room we booked was with ensuite bathroom. The room was very small and the bathroom was outside the room, I asked if that was the room we had booked and was told that it certainly was and was given a key for the bathroom. Every time we had to go to the bathroom we had to get out of the room into the corridor and use the key to the bathroom. Breakfast was below average nothing to chose from but croissants filled with plenty of chocolate or dry bread with jam and one coffee. We had to have our breakfast in our own room twice because the breakfast room was full of people.

  • Liked — It was near the underground station
  • Disliked — the ensuite bathroom

How is possible to complain about having free breakfast in room? The most of the Hotel ask a fee for this service! Especially the Hotels that are “fully of people”. The only thing you can be sure about this review is that the photos of our sites show you exactly what you will find. Indeed, also these kind of guests have nothing to say about that. You see. Anyway, I will cite the on-line Cambridge dictionary, “ensuite: describes a bathroom which is directly connected to a bedroom or a bedroom which is connected to a bathroom”. Maybe these guests should review their English. In fact the room they booked has an adjacent bathroom (the sides of the two doors are at a distance of few centimetres). Most important, all the area is insulated from the rest of the apartment (and the other rooms) from an independent entrance. All the rooms face on a central squared hall. This is typical of these kind of old style apartments, there are not corridors. The room has a 14 square meters surface, a standard measure for double rooms. A final notice: we do not serve jam in our breakfast, we serve Italian breakfast with the best croissants you can find in Rome (fortunately, plenty of chocolate, or al lot of other delicious things), marmalade, honey, butter, dry bread, coffee, cappuccino, or tea. Our espresso machine is in the kitchen and guests can use it anytime during the day. Be sure, if you are a traveller which aim is to visit Rome, our B&B will be the right choice
