“Great food but watch the bill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Visited Costanza on our latest trip to Rome based on previous Tripadvisor recommendations. The food was great and well worth the visit, service also excellent. Unfortunately the bill " handwritten" was not reflective of the menu prices. Not massively but enough to be noticed. No problem once challenged but disappointing after what was a wonderful evening with my husband. I can only question why would a nice restaurant risk it?

“Best restaurant in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

Best restaurant we visited in Rome. Beautiful romantic surroundings as built in ancient roman amphi theatre. Lovely food. And most important: polite, professional and friendly service.

“The priest is still doing the Lord's work”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Hostaria Costanza is located under the remains of Pompey's Theater where Caesar was assassinated. The ceiling is thus slanting like the underside of a grandstand, and this gives it a wonderful charm and sense of history. The story is told that Costanza was a priest but decided to marry and cook, and if that story is true, then I think he is still doing the Lord's work, because the food is wonderful. Full disclosure: the night we dined there we went with a friend who lives part0time in Rome and knows the owner, so we did not order from the menu, but simply got dish after dish brought out to us. But this gave us the opportunity to taste many dishes and all were wonderful. The sauces are to die for, and they have a wonderful way with seafood. Antipasti are varied and universally delightful. There are abundant wine choices. This is not the cheapest restaurant in Rome, but may be one of the best.

“Poor Service and Overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

My family and I made the mistake of eating at Hostaria Costanza based on a recommendation from our hotel and other TripAdvisor reviews. I would seriously recommend that you avoid this restaurant at all costs. The food is marginal, and the wait staff constantly pushing more food on you to pad the check. Obviously, I would not recommend Hostaria Costanza to either business or leisure travelers staying in hotels near the Campo De'Fior. There are many better restaurant choices i the same area.
