“Great gelato with amazing selection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

Over 100 flavors, ranging from vanilla to chocolate to sorbets to savory. Gelato was fantastic - generous portions - and service was especially friendly and helpful. A Rome must!!

“Please visit this gelataria, it's worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Address is Piazza Di monte d'Oro 91/92 (Via dell'Arancio), Roma, Lazio.
We loved this place and visited 3 times in 4 days. FANTASTIC ice-cream, delicious and wonderful flavours, properly fruit-tasting peach, melon, green apple, mango, .....extraordinary Philidephia and walnut or ricotta and blueberry. Great value - 3 scoops Euro3 No crowds, not touristy, no-where to sit, but we wandered up to the Spanish Steps.

“A lot of hype - but disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012

I was expecting Il Gelato to be A LOT better from the reviews here, and on websites. However, the shopfront looked very average (I was thinking then: that's fine, it's the icecream that mattered!) and there was nobody there when I arrived late afternoon.

The icecream was definitely above average but it was rather bland or too sweet. The taste was not full or robust, and sorbet left a frozen ice bland aftertaste.

I honestly expected more, and there are better ice cream around anywhere else.

“Innovative, surprising, sometimes peculiar, but always 100% delicious !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012 via mobile

First of all, if you want a traditional Italian gelateria with all the basic flavours, Il Gelato isn't for you. But if you want to experience the most awesome and creative mix of, oh say..sunflower and chocolate, champagne, ricotta + frutti di bosco, "fantasia" (for me to leave a mystery and you to try), then I'd say this place might be a winner in your book of the best gelato around. I've tried so much gelato here in Rome and while the basics are great and always comforting, in the end they're just that -- ordinary. If you want more than traditional flavours, Il Gelato is not be missed!
