My husband and I were in Rome for a short break 29/10/09 to 01/11/09 and booked the Vatican Tour with Matt. I am so glad we booked this as it gave us so much information and Matt came across as really knowing his stuff. It was a laid-back but informative and enjoyable tour and without Matt we wouldn't have got the most out of our visit to the Vatican. One of the huge advantages of using Roman Candle tours is that their group size is so small, you really get the opportunity to ask questions and find out what you have always wanted to know. On the strength of this tour, we booked up for the Ancient Rome tour (The Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum) with Brian for the following day. This too was wonderful and really captured the magic of such a beautiful and historical area. We would, without hesitation, recommend Roman Candle tours to anyone - a truly professional and knowledgeable tour company.

We had a tour of the Ancient City/Coliseum and Vatican on two different days with Brian. His knowledge on both tours was outstanding. We did private tours with myself, wife and 6.5 yr old son. We all enjoyed it. The tours are the perfect length (around 3 hours) to give all the information you need. Make sure you've got your walking shoes on!

We had two and a half days in Rome before our cruise and did three tours with Roman Candle tours. These walking tours are the best way to see some of these sights and get some truly personal tours. They are a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes, but all were well worth our time and money!

Brian took us on the tour for ancient Rome and the Colloseum. Our flights had been late and we got in much later than anticipated so started these tours with very little sleep. Brian was a great source of information and very helpful along the way. That night we took the night tour with Richard. We had a great time seeing things that we just never would have seen on our own as well as stopping for a truly great cup of coffee along the way. I will not forget the "French Steps" Richard! The next day we did the afternoon tour of the Vatican with Matthew who was also fabulous and incredibly knowledgeable.

These tours really spoiled us for the others to come during the rest of our vacation. Having tour guides that speak English clearly and touring with small groups makes the experience so much better. All of our guides had very different personalities that suited their tours well and made our visit so enjoyable.

Thank you!

We took 2 Roman Candle Tours during our Oct 3-6 visit in Rome. Both the Ancient Rome and Vatican tours were led by Brian, who proved to be a wealth of knowledge and able to answer varied question from our group. It was refreshing to take a tour with less than 15 people (the maximum that Roman Candle permits per group), especially when you see some some tours with 50+ people, walking around aimlessly listening to their tour guide over a radio handset! Take note that these are walking tours and we did a lot of it, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes!!

Both out tours ran over the 2.5 hour time, but Brian was more than happy to answer all our questions and really bring the points of interest to life with his descriptions and his illustrations of what the ruins would have looked like 2000 years ago. We had hoped to also take a 3rd tour (the Night Tour), but it only runs on specific days and it did not fit our schedule.

Overall, excellent tours and great pricing. Note that if you take more than 1 tour with Roman Candle, you get a 5 euro discount on the subsequent ones.

My husband and I visited Rome in mid September and I booked the three tours offered by Roman Candle Tours, all with a personal guide, on three consecutive days. When we met our guide, Reena, for our first tour, it was immediately so reassuring to know that we would become more comfortable with Rome as we went along since, as she said, it is quite overwhelming when you first arrive. She was with us for all three days of tours and was just wonderful, so warm and friendly, and an excellent and very knowledgeable guide; we learned so much about our surroundings on every tour. She was also very helpful about recommendations for what we might do on our own. I think that Matthew has designed these tours so very well to cover many of the highlights that one wants to see in Rome, and he was so nice to communicate with in setting things up, also very helpful with questions. Highly recommend this company!
