Owner description: Real Rome Tours is a small team of local guides, licensed and experienced in giving guided tours of Rome in English. Rather than work for tour operators, we formed this company in order to cut out the middleman and work directly with our customers, thereby avoiding the commissions that tour operators add to our tour fees.Although we are all licensed guides in Rome and the Vatican, we all have our own areas of expertise. We have archaeologists, art historians, and university lecturers among our ranks, and as our reputation has grown we continue to invite similarly-qualified guides to join us. Our philosophy is simple: We believe that tours should be fun as well as informative, so any guides seeking to join us must have an open and friendly disposition on tours, and be willing to assist our customers with any situation. A passion for Rome is mandatory. We also believe that our customers are best served in small groups. For this purpose, we strictly limit all of our group tours to only 12 people. This does not mean that we cannot cater for more than 12 people - if you have a private party and wish to stay together for an entire tour we can arrange for this - but for group tours we like to keep the groups small and intimate, so that you can engage with your guide and ask questions. Our fees are honest and reflect the small sizes of our groups. These are the fees that we would be paid from tour operators, but they add their own commissions on top so you will pay higher rates for the same service if booked through a tour operator. We include ticket prices in our tour fees where tickets are applicable, and we always skip the lines. Headsets are provided for groups of more than 5 people - if you are lucky enough to be in a group of 5 or less you will see that headsets are not required! Since our inception in 2008, we have received some great reviews on Tripadvisor, and we thank all of our previous customers, both for their repeat business and for recommending us to their family and friends. Our customer base and reputation have been growing steadily over the past few years, and we promise to continue to strive to deliver the perfect Rome experience for all our future guests. We hope to see you on one of our tours in 2014!

“The best way to see the best that Rome has to offer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

When planning your trip to Rome you may be tempted to see the sights doing it "on your own" using many of the self tours or audio guides available. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Forget that idea and find yourself a tour company that will allow you the luxury of getting in to what you want to see quicker, will take you to see the really important things you want to see and will educate you about this marvelous city in a way no audiobook or self guided tour can. There are dozens of tour companies to choose from both good and bad. So, I hope my review of Real Rome Tours helps you make this important decision. Real Rome offers many different tours. We were fortunate to have done three tours with Real Rome Tours during our stay in Rome. The Romantic Rome Tour is a perfect choice for your first night in Rome especially after having traveled overnite. The tour starts at about 6pm at the Spanish Steps. Our guide, "Tizi" took us on a almost 4 hour joy ride from the Spanish Steps, Trevino Fountain, Pantheon and Plazza Navonna and is a living history lesson. Our next tour was the Vatican Museums Tour. Our tour guide was an exceptionally informative young man by the name of "Aleesio". Our time with him was well spent and he was sure to point out the real treasures of the Vatican Museums. You can't possibly see all there is to see on your own or with any tour group so your time is best spent seeing "the best of the best". Aleesio also allowed us the time to take in the wonders of the Sistene Chapel while other tour guides ushered there tour members along. Believe me, no matter what your religious belief, you will not want to be ushered out too quickly. Our third tour was the Underground Coliseum / Roman Forum Tour. This is the only tour of the Coliseum you should do as unlike other tours you are taken "beneath" the original floor of the Colosseum and are taken to the very top of the Coliseum, both areas that self guided tourists and many "basic" tours are not allowed access. Our guide, Ferdinando, was EXCEPTIONAL. An archeologist by trade, he offers invaluable insights to the excavations conducted in around the Coliseum and Roman Forum and the history surrounding those sights. What is most impressive about the guides we encountered was their "passion" For what they do. They really love Rome and are proud of their city. Our thanks also to Gerard, the owner, who works behind the scenes ensuring that your tour goes smoothly. You may never see him but you do see the results of his efforts.

“Outstanding Tour of Ancient Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Recently my wife and I signed up to tour the ruins of Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. Our tour guide, Ferdinando, was a Ph.D. Archeologist who was able to give our small tour group tremendous insight into what we were seeing. The highlight was the Colosseum where he took us to places the general public is unable to access. Really amazing tour and highly recommended.

“Vatican & Colosseum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Two magical tours with authoritative guides opened our eyes to the jewels of Rome. Well organised, well paced, and brimming with enthusiastic knowledge passed on by our experts. Without their contribution I would never have understood the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel as I do now! Spend time with a small group and come away with history embedded in the brain!

“Ancient Rome - In Depth - Don't Miss It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

We had a tour on 15 Sept 2013 and we had the BEST guide Fernando. He was an archaeologist and more importantly was able to impart his knowledge. So good. Absolutely great way to see the Colosseum as you get to go on the lower level (and the highest level) not open to the general public. The tour included the Forum and Palantine Hill.

Without being disrespectful, a guide from the same company did the tour of the lower level of the Colosseum (our tour was broken into two groups so there was only about 13 in each group which was a good number) and that part of the tour was so disappointing as her information was very superficial.

“Couldn't ask for any better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

My fiancé and I wanted to see the colosseum and this tour into the underground part sounded great and it was better than expected. The tour itself was informative and in depth, great for people interested in Ancient Rome but we had the advantage of getting the best tour guide ever. He was an archeologist and had worked on the digs around the forum and its was great as he added his own personal experiences and stories through the tour and his enthusiasm was great!! He was very patient with everyone too and answered all our questions as well. It was the best 4 hours we spent on a guided tour. We would definitely recommended doing this tour.
