When planning your trip to Rome you may be tempted to see the sights doing it "on your own" using many of the self tours or audio guides available. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR! Forget that idea and find yourself a tour company that will allow you the luxury of getting in to what you want to see quicker, will take you to see the really important things you want to see and will educate you about this marvelous city in a way no audiobook or self guided tour can. There are dozens of tour companies to choose from both good and bad. So, I hope my review of Real Rome Tours helps you make this important decision. Real Rome offers many different tours. We were fortunate to have done three tours with Real Rome Tours during our stay in Rome. The Romantic Rome Tour is a perfect choice for your first night in Rome especially after having traveled overnite. The tour starts at about 6pm at the Spanish Steps. Our guide, "Tizi" took us on a almost 4 hour joy ride from the Spanish Steps, Trevino Fountain, Pantheon and Plazza Navonna and is a living history lesson. Our next tour was the Vatican Museums Tour. Our tour guide was an exceptionally informative young man by the name of "Aleesio". Our time with him was well spent and he was sure to point out the real treasures of the Vatican Museums. You can't possibly see all there is to see on your own or with any tour group so your time is best spent seeing "the best of the best". Aleesio also allowed us the time to take in the wonders of the Sistene Chapel while other tour guides ushered there tour members along. Believe me, no matter what your religious belief, you will not want to be ushered out too quickly. Our third tour was the Underground Coliseum / Roman Forum Tour. This is the only tour of the Coliseum you should do as unlike other tours you are taken "beneath" the original floor of the Colosseum and are taken to the very top of the Coliseum, both areas that self guided tourists and many "basic" tours are not allowed access. Our guide, Ferdinando, was EXCEPTIONAL. An archeologist by trade, he offers invaluable insights to the excavations conducted in around the Coliseum and Roman Forum and the history surrounding those sights. What is most impressive about the guides we encountered was their "passion" For what they do. They really love Rome and are proud of their city. Our thanks also to Gerard, the owner, who works behind the scenes ensuring that your tour goes smoothly. You may never see him but you do see the results of his efforts.
