“Diamond in the rough!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Many restaurants in Rome are tourist grade and the restaurants on Borgo Pio are no exception. Situated near Saint Peter's Square, Borgo Pio is teeming with restaurants and souvenir shops. I was skeptical about eating on this street until I met the owner of Arlu. I decided to give it a try. Everything about Arlu was excellent and authentic Italian. Pasta's were homemade, great selection of dishes and of wines, portions were generous, staff was attentive and friendly, and exceptionally clean surroundings and bathroom. We were given a complimentary appetizer although we already ordered several. Don't skip dessert, the millefoglio was delicious. If Arlu was near my hotel I would have eaten there every day. This restaurant is a must on the day you are near the Vatican.

“Great find in such a tourist area!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

After a long day visiting the Vatican City, we were looking for a restaurant which was close by and we could relax and not made for the tourists (ie photos on the menu!). We found this little gem amongst the rest of them, and were not disappoininted. We were seated promptly in the air conditioned restaurant (it was hot outside!) and orders take by the staff easily. The food was fantastic and a great atmosphere. The family run business had local italian businessmen having lunch there which gave us even more comfort. The food tasted great! Will definitely recommend!

“Nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Nothing special at all. Get another eatery. It would have been very good restourant somewhere in thailand, but in rome it's just average.

“Post Vatican lunch break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

After a morning being overwhelmed by the sights of the Vatican our guide suggested lunch at this small family owned ristorante. Only a few tables inside and a few outside. We had reserved outside but it was very warm and they gladly seated us inside where it was a bit cooler.

We had a nice carafe of their house white wine, a margarita pizza to share as a starter for the three of us along with their fresh baked bread. The home made pasta dishes were large and the sauces were delicious.

A blend of locals and tourists made for an interesting clientele and its a good place top people watch while you take break as well.

“Fantastic Food and Service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

After a busy day, we went for a 4:30 dinner at Arlu's restaurant. We were seated immediately inside since it was beginning to thunder outside. This restaurant was recommended by a friend and was worth the walk behind the Basilica. The veal with mozzarella, lasagna and spagetti carbonarra were delicious! Armand gave us small pizza appetizers on the house. I'll be back in two weeks after a visit in northern Italy. Grazie!
