I and my wife visited Rome for the first time, so we did not know excatly what to expect. The whole stay was wonderful, I can recommend Rome for everybody. Party that is because of the city itself (beautiful city, you can walk from place to place, good food and wine, reasonable prices, good service), and partly because of this lovely hotel. It is in an old monastery in the Travestere. Good location, you can easily walk to Vatican and other sites, and the lively streets and restaurants of Travestere are close. I have travelled a lot and seen more hotels than one really needs, but I have to say that Donna Camilla Savelli is something different: the building is lovely and the service goes beyond the call of duty, especially the front disk service was wonderful. Breakfast was good and plenty. Two minor minuses, which should not scare anyone: 1) we did not have much of a view from the window because the window was quite high on the wall of the quite small room (no one comes to Rome to stay in the hotel room anyway...), 2) we did not see any sign outside suggesting that this is a hotel (luckily we came by taxi, as it was late in the evening). Maybe they just cannot put any hotel signs out there because it is a historical building, I don't know... This may be confusing if you try to find the hotel for the first time, the entry is bit tricky anyway, beware of the traffic.

  • Liked — Location, service, atmosphere, breakfast
  • Disliked — smallish room, entry to the hotel area from the street

We spent 4 days at this hotel in October 2008 and loved it. The staff is excellent -- they are attentive, friendly, and courteous at all times. I believe they all speak at least some English. The hotel is located in the Travestere area of Rome. It is conveniently located as long as you don't mind walking 15-20 minutes to the major attractions in Rome such as Vatican City, the Roman Forum and Colosseum and for another 5-10 minutes, the Spanish Steps. The area around Travestere is a little dirty and there is grafetti everywhere (also around the Pantheon and the Colosseum) The Hotel serves a very good buffet breakfast. The only hot food served was scrambled eggs and pancetta (bacon) and some type of sausage. The rest was several cold cereals, numerous pastries, yogurt, various sandwich meats and cheeses, some fruit (whole and cut up) and about 4 different types of breads and toast. They should consider offering more than just scrambled eggs in our opinion as you can get tired of that after 4 days. Since they have a kitchen available to them it would be wonderful if they started offerering sandwiches, etc...during the day for those times when you just don't want to go out. The room size was probably around 15' x 15'. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is small but was absolutely one of the most beautiful marble bathrooms I've seen. The walk-in shower was terrific -- huge 8" waterfall type showerhead. We had a beauitful window that overlooked the courtyard. You could open the window/shutters which was really nice in order to get the fresh air in as well as hear the many church bells that rang during the day and night. The common areas of the Hotel are magnificant. You can literally "feel" the history of the convent in every stairway and hallway. Absolutely magnificant remodeling/restoration. There is a chapel next to the reception that the nuns use every morning and is available to the guests as well. It looked magnificant as well. I highly recommend this hotel if walking between historical sites is your plan. The only downside to this hotel was its lack of in-house restaurant or cafe. I can't imagine why it would be a big problem for them to get one open and I highly recommend to them that they that to make this hotel absolutely perfect. The rooms are not the same as US five-star quality hotel rooms but the history behind the hotel/convent and the quality of the restoration made up for it in my opinion. If you have any interest in staying in a historical monument, but with nearly all the luxeries of today, this is your place.

I stayed at Donna Camilla Savelli Hotel by default when my original hotel was booked out by a medical convention.
I was with a group of travellers on a 'Grand tour of Itay and Sicily' and apparently this was the first group booking the hotel had experienced.
We had just arrived at the start of our tour in Rome and were all pleasantly surprised at this hotel.
The hotel is so serene, the amenities the best, and the staff so ready to please.
As an extra bonus I was able to visit the chapel which is located within the hotel, only open for an hour on Sundays, and the nuns still live in a seperate part of the hotel.
It was an exquisite experience and a great introduction to Rome.

My husband and I just returned from a 4-night stay at the Hotel Donna Camilla Savelli. The facilities were beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Our room had a comfy bed, a very large shower with a bench, and a window with excellent light-blocking shades (great for sleeping in) that opened out into a lovely courtyard. The complimentary breakfast was impressive -- meats, pastries, juices -- more than your average complimentary breakfast.

The entire staff was very friendly and attentive. Somehow, everyone (even staff members we hadn't met) knew who we were and what room we were staying in. Our airline lost our luggage, and whenever we encountered a new staff member, that person would update us on our luggage status -- even if we hadn't met that person before! I'm still not sure how they did that. They were also really helpful with the luggage retrieval -- one staff member gave the airline her personal mobile number so she could receive SMS updates for us. Rome is a hot place that requires lots of walking, and I took 2 showers almost every day we were there -- and every time we left our room our towels were refreshed and the room was straightened up.

My only complaint about our stay is that it cost extra money for Internet service. I thought it was a little nickel-and-dimey to charge for Internet access when the room cost $400 (USD)/night. However, the staff members did offer to look things up for us on their computers, so again the helpful staff saved the day.

Overall, we loved our stay, and if we return to Rome we will definitely return to this hotel!

This lovely hotel is an oasis of quiet in the bustling city of Rome. Beautifully appointed rooms with marble bathrooms, facing a pretty courtyard garden, comfortable beds and wonderfully attentive and polite staff. Views over Rome were impressive, especially if you have a room with a balcony. Well situated for the centre of the city with an abundance of restaurants within walking distance.
Highly recommended as we thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay.
