As a Romanista above all else the Stadio Olimpico is my true Vatican in Rome. We visited in March 2011 to see the Derby della Capitale (Roma v. Lazio). The whole day was amazing... the energy was electric, the stadium was on fire (figuratively and, sometimes, literally) and the game was very exciting. The best part of the trip!

Stayed near here in 2012, and tried to get tickets. You need a passport. In the day, it's locked up, and there's not even a gift shop or museum. Total rubbish.

“A majestic place to watch football, I'd go back in a heartbeat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Went to see Roma vs cagliari in May 2010, Roma came from a goal down to win 2-1 with two goals from the most worshiped player in Italy - Francesco totti.

First of all the tickets were good price about £20 each I recall. The stadium itself is a fantastic sight and whilst football grounds with running tracks are criticised for the impact on atmosphere, you wouldn't know it here! The roma fans don't fill their stadium but you wouldn't know that either as the noise levels blast your senses and raise your goosebumps. I have been to some amazing atmospheres and this one is right up there believe me!

Also as an English fan I couldn't believe you can take a beer inside the stadium and watch whilst sipping! I wish you could back home as it just added to the atmosphere and I would go back in a heartbeat.

“Chelsea v Lazio Champions League”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2012

Went to the Stadio Olympico a few years back for a Champions League game that finished 0-0 the Stadium is more impressive from the outside than in unless they have refurbished it lately.
It sits in a dip and looks like a large fruit bowl from the outside but inside was very basic with seats that have seen better days nothing like the seating at UK stadiums no backs to the chairs just a bum imprint stuck onto concrete slabs.
Ended up standing most of the game only to be asked by a local Politzia "where are your Hooligans when Roma play Lazio we have a real good fight" very weird.
The terracing/seating areas soon became very wet and dirty as eveyone going to the loo trailed back with wet shoes dread to think what the Ladies was like.
was glad i was on a coach back to the Hotel because the Lazio Ultra's were lining the roads outside after looking for stragglers and there is not much public transport.

“Lazio vs. Lecce”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012 via mobile

On match-day, you can only get tickets from Lazio Style store, about 500 meters from the stadium on the other side of the river at Via Calderini. There's a numbered queue outside the store, if it's very long, try to join with others with smaller numbers, they'll let in maximum groups of four. Remember to have an ID with you, passport or EU driver's license are proved to work.

For the game, you should experience the atmosphere of Curva Nord. Notice that you won't be able to sit until the half-time break. Don't be afraid of the bombs, they're just loud. Also, be careful when Lazio scores, people will rush towards the field!
