My wife & I just returned from Rome, staying 4 nights at the Trevi... The location is fantastic. You are literally 30 meters from the fountain on a small street. Excellent location - many restaurants within easy walking distance ranging from gelatto shops (right across the street) to pizzerias to local restaurants to tourist restaurants. Metro is a short walk in Barbeni Piazza, but other than a ride to the Vatican, we were able to walk to everything from this location. There is not a better location...
From a room & hotel standard - it is a definite 4 star... hotel amenties are 3 star (no fitness center, no pool, etc.) - not atypical of a center city Europe boutique hotel...
We had a room on the second floor overlooking the street - the room was quiet with the window shut - some street noise with the window open - but you are in center city Rome... if you want quiet, you should be in the countryside! The room is large by European standards, and nicely renovated & furnished. It is air conditioned, although we did not use it - the heat works well also - with individual room controls. the room was very clean, and had all of the amenities in the room - internet accesss, room safe, two chairs, desk, flat screen TV, mini bar, etc. The bathroom is clean & modern, a little small - but very functional. Great towels, shampoo, toothbrush, etc... The only thing that wasn't very very nice was the bed - it was comfortable, & clean, but the bed & the bedspread were a little cheap compared to the rest of the furnishings... Don't get me wrong, it was comfortable & large- just not the 'plush' bed you would expect for the remainder of the room.
Breakfast is included in the rate - was typical European - meats, cheeses, breads, cakes - some fresh fruit, good coffee (ask them to make it from behind the bar!). There are around 20 seats in the breakfast room (which is bright & well decorated) - so around 9:30 on Sunday morning it was a little crowded... Better bet is to have breakfast delivered to the room... we did on Friday morning - what a cool indulgence - and it was free!
Staff was helpful... a little inexperienced - but directed us to the local info booth to buy the Roma cards, and directed us to two nice local restauarants- and to the local cab stand...
Book the room on one of the TripAdvisor sponsors - the rate is about 30% cheaper than the hotel web site. Overall - a good center city hotel, at a good price, in an unbeatable location - I'd recommend it!
