“A Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

We had planned a day trip to visit the Pompeii excavations and did not expect to stay overnight. We did not have a reservation the owner of Il Principe restaurant personally called the Calypso for us and made the arrangements for us to stay. We were greeted by the owner, a very pleasant and courteous gentleman. We were able to park our car on their private lot and the owner even allowed us to keep it there after our check out so that we could spend a couple of more hours in this very charming city. The rooms were clean, comfortable, air-conditioned, nice shower and overall very, very pleasant. Their rates are a fraction of what we've paid elsewhere for at less than desirable accommodations. The Calypso rivals many of the places we've stayed. The owner showed us around his personal art collection and gave my daughter, who is studying hotel management some invaluable career advice. We had a few cappuccinos at the small bar in their lobby and I must say that they were some of the best we've had. This is a lovely family establishment and we were greeted as such. I highly recommend the Calypso Hotel in Pompeii and will definitely stay here again. Grazie :)

We needed a place to stay overnight and chose the Calypso Hotel in Pompeii. As noted the family can not be nicer. They make you feel very comfortable, and serve a lovely breakfast in a lovely decorated room.
The beds are a little hard and the heat was not turned on, but we didn't ask. The lovely owner said we could leave our car parked if we were visiting the ruins, which I thought was very kind. We would definately stay at this hotel again and have no problem recommending it.

We arrived in Pompei late one evening withour reservations, and stumbled upon this hotel. It is a family run establishment, with lots of smiles. The owners speak some English. The room was comfortable for 2 adults (queen bed) with two young children (bunk beds). The rate was 100 Euro which did include continental breakfast. At check-in I asked a young man working the front desk about tours of the Pompei ruins, and he said that he was a tour guide..He met us at 9 am the next morning. We had a wonderful 3 hour tour of the ruins! The cost was 70 Euro, plus admission to the ruins...still a good deal. He was very fluent in English, charming, and a great guide! I would recommend this hotel, and esp. the guide services of the owner's son.

The hotel is close to the centre of town and the second entrance to the ruins (not the main entrance). The owners of this hotel are very friendly and happy to be of service. The continental breakfast was filling and satisfying. The rooms are clean but very tiny. Unfortunatley the beds are hard and we had to ask for extra pillows and for the heating to be turned on. There is a communal room downstairs which was good for the 4 of us. It would be better in the summer when heating is not required and the days are longer.

Chosen on line for location, not disappointed - could walk easily to main sites. There is nice friendly, homely feel to the hotel & were very understanding about us managing to double book ourselves (once under my name, once under my partners!) and were given very good advice and maps about visits to Vesuvius & Ercolano (a must). Room & en suite were comfortable & clean. Breakfast was fresh, adequate & taken in a very charming room. This was a little, inexpensive, very pleasant gem of a hotel.

The Hotel Calypso was a delight. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was to a good standard and the breakfast room interestingly cluttered !! The family running the hotel were so helpful- even going as far as driving us to the far entrance of the ruins when we asked for a taxi! They gave maps and information about local pubs and restauants which all went to making our stay in Pompeii unforgettable. Pompeii its self was a lovely place to stay, while the ruins are undobtedly the focus of attention , the people are friendly and there are some great restaurants and bars. The town appears to shut down early but a bit of preseverance and you will find an ongoing night life!
