“Budget hotel in Naples”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

This hotel is well situated...if you want to go to naples. BE VERY CAREFUL. We've travelled all over and have NEVER been robbed before; always super careful but I had my purse and cards stolen. At night, we were stopped by local people and told to take off our watches because we'd be mugged! We got directions to use the metro, but to be honest, either get a taxi from garibaldi station or get the bus from the airport to the station in Naples and with your back to the station Piazza Garibaldi, walk along the main road on the left hand side and you'll come to via Duomo on the left. Walk up the road, it is uphill, over traffic lights - they're fairly unnoticeable, keep going and it's on the right. It has flags but you have to look upwards and its opposite the Illy coffee shop. If you arrive in the dark, you have to key in the door code, press the bell and ask for the large gate to be opened. Visit the botanical gardens, the cathedral which is on the same street as the hotel. The hotel is a little run down but clean. The tv didn't work but the wifi was excellent. The breakfast isn't worth talking about but better than nothing.

Room Tip: Room 16 tv didn't work but it is a HUGE room!

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it! My boyfriend is from the south of Italy and he was very pleased with the hotel. They have beautiful rooms and a wonderful staff. The breakfast was just like a typical italian breakfast, coffee and a pastry, it was good though. For those people who want more, find an american cafe. Close to everything you want to see in Naples! I will be back here when we return!

Update:
The elevator does not require any money now to ride it!

We were referred here by a hostel that was totally full, as was the rest of Napoli. We were quite happy with the place. I'd like to give it four stars, but I just can't. The room we had was definitely a bit old, with peeling wallpaper and in general tired looking. We didn't mind that and hey, the place was ultra reasonably priced as we negotiated a better deal. The breakfast consists of juice, a croissant, some packaged toasty things and jams, plus a fresh cappuccino to start your day. It's not much but as other reviewers mentioned, you get what you pay for.

I really did like this place and I'd probably stay here again if we got the same deal. The location is exceptional, in fact the best. It's close to the Duomo Cathedral and the Tribunali road which is the de facto mainstreet of the old town. We walked the whole city and we would not stay elsewhere, especially not the touristy harbour area. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well with advice on outings and restaurants. They really make the place.

Tim's Tips:
-it's a bit tough to find, especially using the map that has their hotel's location marked on it! It's about 2 blocks past the Duomo up the main road. It's marked by 2 brown banners on the second floor that say "Hotel Neuveux" or something like that. We walked past it 3 times in the dark thinking it was a different hotel. But that's it. Check the wall and you will find "Hotel Des Artiste"s buzzer on the wall.
-there's so much to see and do here. All the quirky and beautiful churches, the old part of the city, the Napoli Underground. And the eating is superb. DO NOT MISS going to Sorbillo's which is apparently the oldest pizza making family in Naples. This is a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
-the place is on the second floor and there's an elevator, but you must pay 20 cents to use it. Cheapo trick for those with no change: Get into the elevator with your bags, have one person run up to the second floor, then push the elevator button to call it. Voila.
-internet is sketchy in the far rooms. It's best to go to the breakfast area if you need a reliable signal.

The best part of this hotel is the qwerky old fashioned lift. I do not jest, this really did make us smile

The staff are friendly and very helpful. In my view this cannot be faulted and breakfast is standard (which is very much reflective of the price).

Use the bathroom at your own risk!

I refused to touch the shower door which made the bathroom quite a mess, but I put it to you... Year old mould, ridiculous levels of scum and a shower nozzle that has seen better days; I doubt you would touch it either.

Whilst on the subject of bathrooms a gentle warning for perseptive guests - bathrooms are quite load and most people can hear you and vice versa, a nifty stereo is a must for your own dignity.

The rooms do have aircon but these are not especially effective.

For the cost, its a good location and close to everything

Great area. Hotel close to station, Spanish quarters etc. it was easy to get around and felt safe in the evening due to the number of people around. Staff at hotel all very welcoming and helpful. The actual room was horrendous. There was so much mould in the shower I thought twice about using it. All the bathroom fittings were stained. It was just horrible. It looked like the room hadn't been decorated since the 1980s. However it was fine for a couple of nights as a base. Towels and bedding were fresh. Breakfast very poor, it was so poor that I gave it a miss the following day. Luckily there's lots of great bars around so you can easily find something to eat. I loved Naples and if this hotel upped heir game to match the Hotel des Artistes in Rome, then I would be happy to return.

I stayed in this hotel with my friends for two nights. The hotel is situated in a ,better, area of Naples, much safer than around the main station. Naples is not very safe and clean city, but we felt very good in there and want to come back again. You can find many shops, a port and the centre by walk from the hotel. A spectacular church Duomo is located on the same street, very close to the hotel. The staff is very very kind and helpful, breakfast are included and nice for the price. Rooms are clean, nice colored and equipped with tv. Free wifi and kind receptionists are prons, too:) Very reccomend this hotel for cheap and nice stay in Naples!
