“Good Budget Hotel in a Convenient Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2014

We stayed in Naples to use it as a jumping-off point for day trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the Amalfi Coast. The Hotel San Giorgio is 5 minutes from the train station, so it served our purposes. The area is really not nice, but if you are planning to come back before dark from your excursions, as we were, you can't beat the location. I don't think I would recommend staying in this area if you are single women.
As for the hotel itself, we were very pleased. You have to be realistic when booking a budget hotel. The room was small, clean enough, and with a private bathroom. Yes, the shower doors fall off, and the air conditioning isn't great, and the area is loud and ugly. BUT you get a great buffet breakfast to start your day - unlimited cappuccino, espresso, etc, bread, croissants, two kinds of meat, cheese, jam, honey, cereal, juice. A quick walk to the train station, and you start a great day of exploring Italy. Wifi is free for one hour a day. Desk service in the hotel was good - maps, calling a taxi, quick help with an electrical problem (that I caused). This is a BUDGET hotel, and was a fine choice for us.

Room Tip: If you get a room facing the street, it is extremely noisy - no sleeping with the windows open. But...

The hotel is in a very run down area with vagrants, prostitutes and beggars clearly visible. The streets are very noisy with people shouting, traffic and are incredibly filthy with rubbish, litter and graffiti. The hotel is advertised as being 'completely renovated 3-star superior hotel'. In fact it is completely run down and in need of renovation. Our room was nothing like the images - being dark, cheap and worn and there was black mould in the shower, old dried soap in the soap tray, the mini bar was broken so we had no facility to chill water. There were large patches of damp and staining on the walls. Our family member who had another room had no mini bar. The staff were not interested. Breakfast was DIY coffee, juice and toast, 1 type of cereal, 2 tasteless hams and one tasteless cheese (all cut from rectangular blocks), 1 croissant and one roll - not what you expect in Italy. I couldn't get hot water for a herbal tea as they wouldn't allow me to go to the breakfast room where the only machine was in the evening. I asked about room service and was told no. Internet was OK if you needed less than an hour a day. After that you had to buy a 'ticket' but they had none. They even tried to charge us again when we checked out!

This hotel touted itself as being in a good location with soundproof rooms, and having WiFi access. None of these were strictly true, it is in a good location for the train station, but very bad for safety lots of unsavory characters around, it is right near the slums and the flea markets. They did provide WiFi but only in the lobby, not in the room and only for 1hr per day. Very poor. The rooms were no-where near sound proof, constant noise form Napoli traffic, horns, sirens and shouting in the street. NOT recommended. The service is very poor as well, like they do not care if you complain..so best thing stay away go somewhere else. On the plus side the breakfast was passable at least...

The hotel itself was just OK. The room was small and cramped and overlooked a dirty alley. The room wasn't the cleanest ever...the safe was broken, there was a broken light. The TV didn't work until we had someone come and fix it. The breakfast was just ok. It's in a VERY bad and VERY scary neighborhood near the train station. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Clean rooms, good service, decent breakfast. Good location for travel, eating and shopping: close to central station, many restaurants, shops and the harbor. Very suitable for making trips to Pompeii and the islands of the coast.

Room Tip: Ask for soap when checking in. Rooms on street side are noisy.

Hotel lobby is nice, but the neighborhood it is in is horrible. The hotel is near a porn theatre.
The staff has a dumb rule of only allowing you to log in to wifi only 1 hour a day, which limits your enjoyment at your own pace. There is a computer though that we did use. The room size was decent as was the bed but the bathroom should've been neater. You always hear the sound of water running in the bathroom. Also, the shower door was not properly installed and you had to readjust it each time, and it looks "old". I did like the sink. The staff also has a rule of having you leave the key at the front desk when you leave, which was weird at first but I wonder if it wasn't for security purposes and after a while we didn't mind doing so. I felt the staff was overall friendly, although the breakfast was stale, not much variety in food. If I had a choice, would not come back here.

Room Tip: Don't book here unless you want to explore Naples, which is not a city I would go back to. Very...
