Grand Hotel Cesare Augusto Sorrento

This hotel was built in the late 60's and is a popular hotel in Sorrento. This hotel is centrally located in the heart of Sorrento with a 2 minute walk to the central Piazza of Sorrento. I stayed here 2 nights and found this hotel spotlessly clean with friendly staff. Better priced than the hotels closer to the marina area, this hotel should be considered. There were a couple of little things missing that you would expect at a hotel such as tea coffee making facilities and tissues in the bathroom. Other than that a nice hotel with a good bar and restaurant and most rooms have sea views.

I will say the rooms are rather large given the typical size of European hotels, and there was a balcony (but you basically looked at the apartments across the street), but they didn't clean the floors (when I walked in my bare feet, I left black marks on the bath mat), the wifi was spotty, the food was ok at best, and the front desk guy was a bit surly + they have these very weird "weights" on their keys that make them virtually impossible to carry around (and they get aggravated when you take the key off the dumbbell). The location isn't too bad as it's about a block or 2 from the main town - which happens to be a GREAT little burgh with plenty of good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, little souvenir shops, vendors, etc. We stayed here as it was where our tour group booked us. Oh, if you love the look of the 60's, this could be the place for you as I don't believe the place has been upgraded since it was built.

Room Tip: I think you need to be on the water side on the highest floor (5? or 6?) to get a water view.

I visited this hotel in July 2014. I was supposed to stay there for a couple of nights until we found somewhere to live (we had a two months work contract in Naples, luckily during the summer) one week later we decided to live for the two months in the hotel. The extremely friendly staff, the delicious breakfast and the familiar atmosphere were the main influencers for our decision. This is the third generation managing this family run hotel. The rooms were very comfortable, we had access to the kitchen since day one, and inside parking gives extra points considering Naple's fame in robbery. Location wise is perfect because the city centre can be to chaotic sometimes and a little dangerous at night. City Centre is easy reachable by metro, cumana (urban train) and bus. Close to the motorway, so it is perfect if you're driving and want to visit outside attractions like Pompeii. Finally, the owners became family to us, the well know South Italian hospitality was remarkable, they made us feel welcome since day one. It was a beautiful experience with all that beautiful people, from the owners to the staff members, everyone made our journey a remarkable one! So for the hospitality, the good food and the comfortable bedrooms I highly recommend Hotel Cesare Augusto.

Stayed one night for fotball match, close to the stadium. Wifi works, pretty simple and small rooms, but clean. Friendly staff. Be carful on the streets - Napoli :-) Close to public transport, metro, trains. We did not have breackfast but, nearby cafe is perfect!

The walls were paper thin and it was difficult to get to sleep. Its only saving grace was that it was near a Metro station, but not close to the centre of Naples. I stayed here on a package tour, so I don't know the price, but it ought to be cheap. No facilities for making your own tea or coffee.
The room was clean and the outdoor dining area very pleasant.

Although it is located in the centre of Sorrento, close to bars and restaurants it is a hotel in need of renovations from A to Z. Rooms are good sized and clean. However, the breakfast is indeed very poor. The internet connection is fine. It is fine for short stays. This hotel is used by tour operators. Overall, this hotel is not good value for money. (200 USD in summer months)

After a hair raising train ride from Naples to Sorrento, we arrived at the Cesare Augusto on a hot Sunday afternoon only to be told that our room was "under maintenance" and there were no other rooms available. We had booked this hotel 3 months earlier and confirmed our arrival. Since it was a Sunday, we had no other alternative and were placed in a taxi to another facility (obviously not an upgrade!) There are many other alternatives we could have pursued but Cesare Augusto staff did not give us the option.
