“Don't be put off by other reviews - this is a good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

We have been using Star hotels throughout our visit to Italy and have been impressed. The offer good value, great locations next to railway stations and pretty good service. They also seem to upgrade regular visitors.

Also, unlike many other hotels in Italy they always provide a kettle and tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. To me this is an essential and I am always surprised when hotels fail to provide it.

The comments some about the hotel's locations say more about the people wrote them than the reality. My wife and I, both in our late 60s, walked outside a fair bit during our stay in Naples and at no stage did we feel concerned about safety.

The main hazard, if you can call it that, is crossing the road to the station. The secret is to act like a true local and be bold. The traffic stops.

When we turned up I was absolutely amazed that they were going to put us in a room which I can only describe as disgracefully you could not see through the windows it was so dirty, I opened the window and looked out at a large pile of rubbish, we did not unpack the walls were even dirty and the decor was all torn! We went to reception and were allocated another room, the facilities were good and the breakfast was good just let down by the room I would not put my dog in

Excellent breakfast included in room - and some rooms have great views of Mt. Vesuvius. You wont' be able to find a hotel closer to the train station - which is a great plus to this hotel. There are three key trains in Naples; The local Metro to sites in Naples, the regional trains to get to Pompeii and Amalfi, and then the main Italy trains to get to other large cities. Since the train station has all of these, this makes an excellent base. The area is a bit shady but never seemed dangerous - and there are plenty of shops nearby for anything you may need.

I would strongly suggest NOT trusting the hotel to help you with your travels or transportation. They offer good clean rooms, good breakfast, and a nice place to stay. I knew where I needed to go so it wasn't a big deal - but be cautious of cabs and tours, etc.

The hotel was good overall, your typical hotel by most standards. Even includes breakfast, but one piece of advise-- don't tell the front desk where you're going. We were chased out of the hotel and down the road (and into the train station) by a guy "who could get us there in a nice van, good price" who was hanging around the lobby and friends with the desk staff. Not really something that makes your hotel look good.

We stayed there for couple of weeks and its a nice hotel, with nice people around. Food was nice and its pretty close to everything. Main train station right next to hotel which is good if you want to take train to Rome , sea side or anywhere as the trains take you wherever you like. Naples is a lovely place to visit. Try and see :)

The hotel was chosen by the tour company. it is across the road from the train station and close to the old city. At the time of our visit, the Piazza the hotel stands in was undergoing major renovations which certainly detracted from our enjoyment
The staff at the desk appear to have gone through special training in superiority and arrogance. no-one acknowledged us for about 15 minutes, which is a long time to stand around with your bags. i was amazed that the wifi was NOT available in the rooms but only in the comfortable and extensive foyer. i did see one person unplug a lamp in order to run power to their PC. the room was nice, but not well maintained, the bathroom had leaks from upstairs and the grouting was missing in several areas.
food was just average

Firstly the location is very handy if you intend to use Naples as a base to visit other places. Literally yards from the station it's very easy to escape and head off elsewhere. The area around the station isn't the best though, and is currently very chaotic with all the works being carried out. Such works are no fault of the hotel of course, but my room (on the second floor overlooking the square) could get pretty noisy. The traffic is relentless all day long, and well in to the night, so it was best that I was out exploring much of the time.

The hotel itself is nice enough. The lobby is very smart and the staff are helpful. The restaurant, which I used on 2 occasions, is also very nice but expensive.

The room however was quite disappointing. I could put up with the noise caused by the chaos out on the street, but huge cracks in the wall are a bit more concerning. The attached pictures show the area around the door frame which was literally falling to pieces. Other parts of the room just seemed very poorly put together. Wardrobe doors where one is hung higher than the other, paint spilled on the carpet, and an overall feel that the room had been decorated by a monkey.

Overall I don't think it's a hotel i'd go back to again.
