“A running museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

With the opening of Garibaldi stop on line 1 this year the Naples subway system has became more useful and beautiful than ever.
Every station on the line 1 is a little gem, with plenty of artworks and original architectures from worldwide artists and from Naples past.
There are weekly guided tours of all the beautiful stations.

More art stations openings are expected in the next few years (Municipio, Duomo, Capodichino Airport, Centro Direzionale). The Duomo station will host an entire greek temple discovered during the excavations.

Despite some initial setbacks, the train service is very good and frequent at the moment.

“artistic or useful?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Trains are often late and crowded, maintenance and cleaning are certainly terrible, but at least there is the Art .... I'm not a lover of contemporary art and I doubt that if they paid a little less the artists could have been improved the transportation service, but we must admit that the subway stations are certainly to be admired. Beginning with the spiral with the Fibonacci serie in the station of Piazza Vanvitelli, continuing with Fiat Cinquecento rusty cars or golden little flames in the station of Salvator Rosa, to end up with that sort of periscopes sticking out of the ground above the station of Via Toledo.
