“Absolutely hated staying here...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2010

I believe there was only one other room taken on my floor...I paid for an ocean view room and they gave me the room at the very end of the hall, which was more of a view of the building next door than the ocean. They wouldn't give me another room even though they were all empty.

The staff was probably the single worst hotel staff I have ever come across. They could not tell me how to get anywhere or recommend anything to do, see, or eat nearby. Meanwhile, the hotel is on top of a hill and it's very difficult/expensive getting anywhere unless you know your way around...

I HATED staying at that hotel and will never return. The staff made me feel very uncomfortable.

we stayed in this hotel before goinf off to ischia - the room was definitely in need of updating and was poor for a 4 star hotel we paid about £100 and did not get a sea view- the hotel is not convenient for restaurants and as the restaurant was closed for refurbishment when we stayed we had quite a hike to find somewhere to eat in the evening - staff were partticularly unfriendly and when i asked for the price for a taxi to the port the reception staff quoted me 25 euros - the port is about 1 mile away as i had walked there on the previous day - i got a cab just outside the hotel and was charged 15 euros!!!!!!!! - a real rip off to tourists

My family came to visit Naples, and I had tried to advise them to go to another hotel. One that has not so great a view, but manners would have been great, and area would have been helpful for them. They were however excited to go to this hotel, because of the "view". Yes the view is terrific, they had booked rooms with a "view", but the only view they had got was the view of the apartment infront of the hotel, and their laundry which was hung outside their window. They have specifically asked for the rooms with a view, paid for them, but once they had arrived, they got the "bum rap"! They had asked for extra money if they wanted the room with the view. They had complained, asked to speak to the manager, but the manager wasn't avaialble and they would not budge to please the guests from another country. As i read the other comments, these people are not wrong at all, the service was/is terrible, the staff just didn't/doesn't care. As I went to the receptionist to ask for info, I seemed to have bothered him as he was chatting on FaceBook.

Being or had been in the service business for the past 20 years, I guess I would notice more things then others would have.
My advice is, go to a bed and breakfast, they are VERY NICE, they are near many public transportation, they WILL help with any need you would want. They are very happy when foreigners come to explore THEIR city, I don't know why the staff at this so called 4 star hotel is so RUDE. Also, the Hotel is an area where buses do not pass, not near any historical sites and shops or cafè's. To reach any of these, you MUST tale a cab; the cabs that are outside cost a fortune, but you can find a cab near any hotel and B&B. For the view? Well, you can take any bus to the top of the city to see how wonderful it is. The way things are handled at this hotel is just not worth it.

Exactly the way I thought it would be. Regular comfortable room with a sea view. Breakfast wasn't the greatest but they had a big variety of things to choose from. The staff was helpful and polite. The parking is only free if you have a rented car, which is in most cases. Surrounded by many good restaurants. I stayed there for 2 nights and I would do it again but definitely not for longer than that.

We had stopped here 4 times previously the last time in 2003. This time we found the staff on the front desk "efficient" but no more. For a 4 star Best Western we thought they might have spoken better English.
The Restraunt staff were disinterested, appeared bored and were unhelpful to the extreme - it was self service but they did'nt even show to a table. Worse still the tables on the terrace with some of the best views in Npales of the bay and volcano were not set up for breakfast - you had to take your own settings etc outside! Clearly this was a move by the aging waiters to reduce their workload.
Very disappointed!

booked with last minute.com as it was one of its recommended breaks. we wanted a romantic couple of days break and that is exactly what we got. the staff are very friendly and helpful. the hotel is very comfortable and it was well worth paying the extra for a balcony room as the view is amazing. it can be a long walk to the centre of town but the staff recommended taking the "cable car" down the hill. it is so easy to get around the city as all you need to do is buy either a 90 minute or 120 minute travel card from a tabacconist or one of the ticket machines by bus stops or train stations, they cost just over 1 euro. this lets you use a bus, funicolare (cable car) or the metro train network around the city.eating out we found the hotel to be too pricey for us so we ventured down the hill and found some lovely pizzerias and restaurants.

We were hesitant to stay at this hotel due to the location in the outskirts of town. But after using the recommended funicular and Metro we were able to easily get to the docks, trains and town. Our room was clean and spacious with a balcony and beautiful bay view. The included breakfast was Wonderful! The restaurant also had the great view, but poor dinner for the cost. The evening staff was much more helpful than the day staff. We LOVED the restaurant recommended by a reviewer, down the hill in front, down the stairs, cross in front of the church, down some more, to Ristorante Pizzeria Sbrescia. Terrific setting, staff and food.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
BEST WESTERN Hotel Paradiso, situated on Posillipo Hill, enjoys a spectacular view of the Gulf of Naples, with Vesuvius as a backdrop.Within just 2,500 metres may be found: the San Paolo Stadium, the Mostra D’oltremare exhibition centre, the University of Federico II di Monte Sant’Angelo, the railway station and the Campi Flegrei subway stop. From many rooms, and certainly from our “Terrazza Paradiso" restaurant, following the line of the coast you see Castel dell'Ovo, built around the year 1000 on a small island of tufaceous rock named Megaris. This is where - legend has it - the siren Parthenope, enchanted by the beauty of the surroundings, constructed the city of Naples. Descending the hill, in a few minutes one arrives at the marina of Mergellina and, 200 metres after that, at the subway station. From here there is a good connection to the old city centre and to the central station, from where it is possible, in around 20 minutes, to reach the sites of Ercolano and Pompei. Also on Posillipo Hill, around 2 km from the hotel, and at the end of the incredibly scenic Via Petrarca, is Virgiliano Park with its green areas and wide terraces that look out onto a sheer view of the Marechiaro Sea, and with a clear view of the little island of Nisida. This is a sight of rare beauty for those who love walking or jogging far away from traffic. The rooms, the meeting rooms, and the scenic restaurant with its Mediterranean cuisine and the warm welcome of its staff, all act as guarantees of a pleasant holiday or business trip. ... more   less
