“COMFORTABLE BUT NOISY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Spent several days here, unfortunately during the 1st May public holiday - the Lungomare was busy with people strolling all day and late into the night. It was interesting to see from our 5th floor balcony, but as the AC didn't work we had to sleep with the windows open ... it was very noisy.

Otherwise the room was comfortable, had a spectacular view of the castle and the hotel staff were very helpful.

We would certainly stay here again, but make sure we had a room at the back of the hotel - away from the noise.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the sea might be quieter and promote a decent night's sleep.

Great location just opposite the Castello del Uovo but..the hotel lacks a lot of facilities to be considered " member of the great hotels of the world"... Needs urgent referbishment, add more plugs in the rooms, get some better lighting and get rid of the blankets ( we are in 2014!!!!)....the staff is very friendly. Oh! By the way wifi is slower than a snail.. If it works!! Bottom line if you have better options then skip this hotel.

We got a great deal with British Airways for return flights and 4 nights B&B at the Royal Continental for £340 and feel really lucky to have stayed here as the location is great. It is on the seafront and overlooking Castel del' Ovo with views of Vesuvius and loads of great places to eat within walking distance. The historical centre is about a 20 min walk, harbour for the ferries to Capri about 30 min walk and Piazza Garibaldi (for trains to Pompeii and Herculaneum) about 45min walk although its not a very scenic walk. We had a superior room with a sea view and it was lovely having a balcony to enjoy a bottle of prosecco (15 euros) while watching the sunset & stars. The room was large and although a little dated it was really comfortable and had seating area and a great bathroom.
The breakfast was okay, nothing special but there was enough choice to have something different each day and the coffee was good. Our first 2 days we were at breakfast about 8am and it was fairly quiet so we had a table by the window overlooking the bay and the castle. Our last two days we went for breakfast around 9am and it was much busier so i'd suggest an earlier start to enjoy a relaxed breakfast and a better table.
There is a road outside the hotel dividing it from the waterfront but this was strangely quiet and just seemed to be used by runners and dog walkers.
The roof top pool was not in use as it was out of season and there is no bar up on the roof (I mistakenly thought there was) but this didn't effect our stay, we had a balcony so could sit and enjoy drinks from our room.
All in all a great hotel with helpful staff and friendly bar staff who gave us little tasters of wine before we bought a bottle. The hotel is a great base for Naples and I would highly recommend it for location alone. I would prefer to stay in a lovely hotel with fab views that was 20 min walk away from the centre than stay in the main centre, as lets be honest, Naples is a scruffy town but staying at the Royal Continental you wouldn't think it!

Room Tip: choose a sea view superior room, it would be a shame to stay in this great location and not enjoy th...

Hard not to mention how absolutely perfect the location is - this street, Lungomare Via Caracciolo, is always active and it makes it fun and safe for family with kids (constant Polizia monitoring). Rent a quadricycle!

The hotel is older but very well kept. Our experience with the service was excellent. Our room was a large 1st floor corner room, which seem to have the larger balconies. Yes, it was close to the road but the commotion didn't bother us at all, we kinda liked it. The food was ok, and there are so many options nearby for variety - hotel food is not overly important to us. We ended up buying the premium WiFi, only 5 Euro per day and a small price to avoid frustration.

Definitely book a tour with seeamalficoast.com (ask for Giovanni, he was great) - we did Sorrento, Positano and Pompeii. Amalfi Coast was stunning. Try to set aside extra time for Positano!. Have a good plan for Pompeii, map it out to avoid wandering or skip it - it is larger than you realize.

Also, go to Capri for a day trip - go early to get the most out of it, we ran out of time. Carefully monitor Blue Grotto. Ask how busy it is and how high the tide is that day. We had to wait 1 hour in the boat to get in since the tide was very high. Still worth it, just be prepared.

I stayed 2 nights in seafront room with a beautiful view of Castel dell'Ovo and Vesuvio.
The room was clean and big enough. Good Service. Breakfast was ok but with a great view.
It has private parking at the basement which is quite pricy (23 per night) but very convenient and secure.
It's about 30 minutes walk to the historical center of Naples, going through via Toledo which is one of the best street for shopping. It is also very close to Chiaia which is a nice neighborhood for shopping and bars.
Not the cheapest nor the most central, but overall worth the money.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights over Easter. It is in a great location on the seafront. It is opposite a beautiful castle with an abundance of restaurants. It is a 10 minute walk to harbour to catch ferry to surrounding Islands. The restaurant in hotel is excellent for Dinner. The staff are attentive and happy to 'tweak" menu for you! The views are stunning from the huge windows.
The downside for us was breakfast, the staff were busy, rude, rushed! You are constantly waiting for jugs, tea pots, coffee, milk, cereal, ham etc as they could not keep up with the volume of people. Apart from the evening meal, this hotel felt very 'busy'. There was always a queue at reception. When we did ask for local advice on attractions the receptionist was less than helpful! If you are looking for a base, this hotel is ideal, if however you like the personal touch this is not for you!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four stars for the Hotel Royal Continental, a hotel on the seafront promenade of Naples with a fascinating past, rebuilt in 1955 by Ferdinando Chiaromonte where once stood the Grand Hotel Royal des Etrangers . Today it is known as a structure of great prestige framed by the extraordinary beauty of the Bay of Naples. Large common areas , multiple meeting spaces , picturesque corners of relaxation, the Royal Continental sparkles elegantly with vintage charm thanks to the interiors designed by Gio Ponti , one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. The furniture too was designed by him combined with designs by young architects of his choice . All 397 rooms, of which most have large windows and a balcony facing the breathtaking view of the Gulf, are spacious and very bright. On the Floor Museum Gio Ponti you can stay in one of the 24 rooms with wooden furnishings and fixtures designed specifically for the Hotel by Ponti. Suspended furniture, three-drawer chests with feet, and magazine racks and lamps in satin brass integrated into headboards from briar have made the history of Italian design. In stunning New York style, the Roof on the tenth floor, from which the beautiful view of the ancient Borgo Marinari and the legendary Castel dell'Ovo can be enjoyed, presents the one of a kind sea-water pool designed by Gio Ponti, published in 1954 on the cover of Domus. Guests are offered the solarium, outdoor bar, Fitness Center, massages booked in advance and two exclusive restaurants with spectacular panoramic views that stretch from the Vesuvius to the hill of Posillipo and the island of Capri. Breakfast served by the sea, in addition to the buffet which offers freshly baked pastries by Hotel Royal Continental, including oven fresh Neapolitan sfogliatelle, pastry horns. Location of reference for events and meetings, the Royal Continental is a well known Conference Center of primary importance in the national scene. Equipped with the most modern equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi, the Conference Center is characterized by its many meeting rooms with natural light and sea views. An exceptional location for large or small events thanks to its Auditorium setaing 530, its 16 Meeting rooms, 13 business suites and exhibition space, more than 200 sqm large. Located in one of the liveliest and most dynamic areas of Naples, the Royal Continental is the ideal location for living and exploring the city, within walking distance from shopping streets and the main local attractions, 10 minutes walk from Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace.
