“Excellent hotel and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

We had a fantastic few days in Naples and this hotel is a lovely, quiet location from which to explore the City. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
My only criticism would be that there was not information about the hotel and local tourist info in the room which I would normally expect to find.

Apart from that a lovely stay and I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012 via mobile

We stayed for 2 nights at a busy time, and it was well serviced. The area is unbeatable, right on the esplanade to walk to everything you need. Food nearby is yummy!
Beds in hotel were not great.....soooooo hard, in fact, perhaps the hardest I've ever had, but perhaps we should have asked to change rooms.
Breakfast was decent. No complaints.
Rooms are a good size and nice big balcony.
Staff are ok. Will help and answer questions, but perhaps a little unfriendly.
Overall, I still rate it a 4....perhaps I'd say 3.5 but there is nothing wrong with that rating either. I've gone to 4 as the location is unbeatable.

We've stayed at this hotel every spring for a few years. Even though it's considered by some a business hotel, it does a fabulous job with leasure travellers. The location is unbeatable, right on the waterfront, by the expensive hotels. The breakfast is great, the service is great. We try to get a room with a balcony and view of Mt. Vesuvius.

Room Tip: ask for one with a view.

I use this hotel whenever I''m in Naples on business, a few times a year. The main attraction is the location: on the waterfront, directly opposite the Castel dell' Ovo, with lots and lots of restaurants within a 10 minute walk, plus a never-ending parade along the Lungomare (except in winter, naturally), and a reasonable walk into the city centre. Added to that, their wireless internet access, while not free (it's via Swisscom), is reliable; they'll print out your boarding passes; it's 30 minutes at most to the airport; the breakfast buffet is decent (and served in a room with a broad view of the Bay of Naples; the staff is helpful; there are taxis out front or around the corner; there's a bank machine nearby; and the small rooftop pool area (with bar) is a great place to relax if you get back to the hotel before it closes. I've yet to have a room that faces the bay but I assume that's the trade-off for getting a lower rate.

Room Tip: If it's important for you to face the water, tell them - but be prepared to pay more.

Admittedly, the hotel is on the seashore promenade accross from the Catello del ovo. But what does that help me if most of the rooms actually face towards a brick wall, a noisy cobble stone street up the hill or the like?

The lobby is pretty but like so often with hotels in Italy, that's it. The room I had is clautrophobic. you squeze around a king size bed, no desk or sitting area. It's you and your lagguage - not more... The bed cover looks old and so does the carpet. The sheets are just that sheets, plus 2 boringly flat pillows. Take a deep breath befroe you use the shower since it is so tiny you might not be able to breath to deeply while showering. Do think of bending over or moving around in that confined space...

There is no price low enough to tolerate this hotel mishap of a product.

This Hotel is located at the coast where you can see the Naples coastline. The location is great. Just a short walk to the main shopping areas and restaurants. The Molo Boverello port is also a short 15 minute walk. The breakfast is great, with a beautiful view. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff are friendly. The only thing is that the Wi-Fi has to be paid for. For a 4 star hotel, this should be free. We had a great stay here and if you are in Naples, this is the hotel to stay at.

Spent a week here last August. The Hotel is very well serviced, all staff from reception, waiters, housekeeping and janitorial (we had a sink malfunction which was sorted out immediately) were fantastic.

This is the right part of town to stay, as you're close to all of the major shopping areas, and are on the bay, directly across from the Catel dell'Ovo. The hotel itself is expensive to eat & drink in (a gin & tonic cost €11, a bottle of beer is €6.50), compared to the bars & restaurants nearby.

With regard to Naples, we felt we had exhausted everything in 2 days. It's a shame that the wonderful architecture has been destroyed completely by grafitti. This is a city that's controlled by gangs, and unforunately it looks dirty and dilapidated.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four stars for the Hotel Royal Continental, a hotel on the seafront promenade of Naples with a fascinating past, rebuilt in 1955 by Ferdinando Chiaromonte where once stood the Grand Hotel Royal des Etrangers . Today it is known as a structure of great prestige framed by the extraordinary beauty of the Bay of Naples. Large common areas , multiple meeting spaces , picturesque corners of relaxation, the Royal Continental sparkles elegantly with vintage charm thanks to the interiors designed by Gio Ponti , one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. The furniture too was designed by him combined with designs by young architects of his choice . All 397 rooms, of which most have large windows and a balcony facing the breathtaking view of the Gulf, are spacious and very bright. On the Floor Museum Gio Ponti you can stay in one of the 24 rooms with wooden furnishings and fixtures designed specifically for the Hotel by Ponti. Suspended furniture, three-drawer chests with feet, and magazine racks and lamps in satin brass integrated into headboards from briar have made the history of Italian design. In stunning New York style, the Roof on the tenth floor, from which the beautiful view of the ancient Borgo Marinari and the legendary Castel dell'Ovo can be enjoyed, presents the one of a kind sea-water pool designed by Gio Ponti, published in 1954 on the cover of Domus. Guests are offered the solarium, outdoor bar, Fitness Center, massages booked in advance and two exclusive restaurants with spectacular panoramic views that stretch from the Vesuvius to the hill of Posillipo and the island of Capri. Breakfast served by the sea, in addition to the buffet which offers freshly baked pastries by Hotel Royal Continental, including oven fresh Neapolitan sfogliatelle, pastry horns. Location of reference for events and meetings, the Royal Continental is a well known Conference Center of primary importance in the national scene. Equipped with the most modern equipment and complimentary Wi-Fi, the Conference Center is characterized by its many meeting rooms with natural light and sea views. An exceptional location for large or small events thanks to its Auditorium setaing 530, its 16 Meeting rooms, 13 business suites and exhibition space, more than 200 sqm large. Located in one of the liveliest and most dynamic areas of Naples, the Royal Continental is the ideal location for living and exploring the city, within walking distance from shopping streets and the main local attractions, 10 minutes walk from Piazza Plebiscito and the Royal Palace. Furthermore, it is a 7 minutes drive to the harbour for ferry connections, 10 minutes to the Central Station and 20 to the International Airport.
