“The good bits were closed.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

It's a church, which there are hundreds of in Naples, but we were attracted to this one due to its other features, which were either closed (Roman archaeology) or had an added charge (baptistery). Visit if you're near but if you want archaeological remains than San Lorenzo Maggiore is outstanding and if you want to visit a church pick one nearer to where you are.

“A tribute to San Gennaro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We had the privilege of visiting the Duomo in Naples last September 20, the day after the Feast of San Gennaro--but the crowds of faithful were still present. What a lively display of devotion in the heart of Naples! Truly a masterpiece of Baroque architecture.

“Do not miss the 5th century mosaics in the baptistry!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

The cathedral itself is a big impressive church, with lots of interest in the side chapels - but nothing you will not have seen many times before if you have spent some time in Italy. What is rare are the 5th century mosaics in the baptistry. You are looking back at art before Europe descended in to the dark ages. 1600 years on the colours of the mosaics are still rich and vibrant.

You do have to pay a small fee to see the baptistry, but for me it was worth it - one of the outstanding sites in Naples.

You feel you are in the Duomo di Napoli. Just beautiful and another must see. We started our tour of Naples with it.

“Certainly worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

I'm not a religious person, so the point of visiting is purely architectural. The Duomo is pretty splendid and worth making the effort to see just to take in the whole enormity of it all.

Probably best avoided on a Sunday I'd say.
