“Excellence with a capital X”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

This family run hotel is about as perfectly located as you could want. Featuring a front seat view of Vesuvius and the bay it is also just a short walk from all that is best in Napoli. It's located at the beginning of the pedestrian walk that leads into Via Partenope and down to Castel Del' Ovo with a number of good sea food establishments. It's then equi distant to the Piazza Plebiscito and Via San Carlo as well as the ferry wharfs for Ischia, Capri and so on. We spent three nights here and although the description 'family run' might suggest something that is maybe a little kitch or lower than first class, personally I would say the complete opposite is true. What is has is the touch of an old school hotelier who knows his stuff. On our first night he was there to offer prosecco from the bar and made us feel at home in the lounge. Breakfast is served on the rooftop with another perspective on the Bay and Vesuvius. The service is friendly and incredibly personable. The coffee is top class Italian. Our room way spacious and decorated with taste. There is a very subtle feel of what many might call 'faded glory' but to my eye that is part of its charm. I've read a damning review of this hotel so obviously it's not for everyone but I suspect the bad reviewer had both bad luck and would maybe prefer a Best Western. Clearly not for everyone but where is?

Room Tip: I haven't seen all the rooms but we were at the front which is where I would always ask to be. E...

I stayed here for a week in December/January. This hotel is in perfect location, across the road from the magnificent Bay of Naples, walking distance to good restaurants and great attractions like Spanish Quarter, Historic Centre. The building is over 100 years old and has loads of character. Breakfast on the terrace, with the views of the Bay of Naples and Mt Vesuvius, was unforettable.

If you're after the big razzle dazzle hotel chain experience then this place is not for you. Miramare is family run, in fact the owner was often in the foyer in the evenings, ready to offer a glass of bubbly to us and enquiring about our day and if the hotel was meeting our expectations. We were there for New Year's Eve and all guests were given a free bottle of sparkling wine. Would that ever happen at a large hotel chain? I don't think so.

The staff were amazing and really went out of their way to help us, particularly Gerardo and Joseph on the reception - nothing was too much trouble and they were always smiling and friendly.

The neighbourhood is very nice - traffic in front of the hotel is limited to taxis and buses making it very quiet and good for walking along the sea front. The rooms were clean and individually furnished, making it a welcome change from the boring chain hotels that all look the same.

We had a wonderful stay at Miramare and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Room Tip: For a small extra charge, ask for a sea front room with a balcony.

During the past year I have travelled to Italy several times with my fiance whom is originally from outside Naples. We have stayed at many different hotels in the area and this one was only average compared to several others nearby. We only stayed one night since our flight was early in the morning the following day Our first dissapointment was the view, when opening the curtains to the balcony we had a view of the big brick wall of the building next to our hotel...For the price charged during low season I was hoping for a view of the sea (hence the name "Miramare"). Second dissapointment was the breakfast. Since we had to check out at 5am for a flight the next morning and had payed a price that included breakfast they offered to bring up a tray the night before but I think they could have done a bit better than some fruits and youghurt (since we had to pay for the breakfast after all). Finally, our biggest dissapointment was the parking. When we booked the room we were told that they had parking right around the corner from the hotel. Once we arrived, they directed us to a parking garage right next door where we were charged seperatly for parking (which we assumed would be the case anyway since most hotels in naples work this way) but when we went to retrieve it in the morning we found the tail lights to be broken and a big ding in the back of the car. The parking garage owner refused to take responsobility for this since we could not prove that it wasnt like that when we left it (and I can assure you that it wasnt). The hotel staff was not very helpful in resolving the issue, only suggesting that I sue the parking garage company...Really? I would expect something like that from a hostel or motel, but not from a 4-star hotel. On the bright side...beds are extremely comfortable, the location is great, and the inside of the hotel is very charming but I would not stay here again.

If it did not have the ocean across the street that you can take in by just walking the coast of Naples. this hotel would be a 1 star!!! On line it shows you a price and beautiful pics that are completely deceiving. The 4 of us arrive at the hotel and everyone is requested to show their passports, that is fine but not once did the operator who spoke to us the morning of tell us to bring passports. According to him, we are suppose to know that. Living in America is a requirement for the person booking the hotel to only have to show ID, that we understand. Thats our first encounter. We then get to our rooms, what a major disappointment. The 1 room that we were charged $150 £ a night had the toilet at one end and the shower and sink at the other end of the room. They didnt even replace our soap and shampoo the morning after or give us fresh towels. The closets are for hanging only sweaters so if you have a dress of anything that needs to hang forget it. We are charged separately for parking, which again in standard but there is no valet, you have to park your own car and retrieve it. Yet they claim to be a 4 star hotel and certainly charge the rate. There is no signage as to their complimentary coffee and biscuits but again we are suppose to know that it is located on the 3 rd floor. We still do not know what time. Anyway we found this out the morning we were leaving only because we told them how disappointed we were. Every hotel we have stayed in and my husband travels the world, we are either told by the front desk, concierge(which this one didnt have) or a pamphlet in your room and elevator. So needless to say 75£ later for breakfast, we were told only because we brought it up Bottom line for the money you pay at this place go stay at the Hotel Continental or Excelsior just a block away. They have a swimming pool, lounge, lobby, friendly staff and all the ammenities you should expect for 150 and 180 £ per day and we were told we were getting a great rate!! We also got charged more because the better suites were available although we never asked for them. In America its obvious they wouldnt survive. With the conversion we paid $900.00 for 2 rooms for 2 nights. In America you would have received prime service, even for less, and I am sure most other 4 star hotels around the world would have followed suit. Worst experience ever.

This was our 4th stay at this treasure of a hotel, and it gets better every time. For the central location, the comfortable rooms, but most of all for the welcome of the owners and staff, this hotel is always the high point of our trip in a city we love. I see some of the other reviews describe the hotel as 'old', but I would say 'traditional'. You are treated as a guest of the family, and with only 18 rooms, you're not just a number on a tour. Everything worked just fine, from plumbing and air conditioning to the high quality bedding and wifi in the room. And there is no better breakfast than the delightful offering on the roof-top terrace with a view of the bay and Vesuvius!

Room Tip: We like the quiet rooms in the back, with a small but accessible balcony.

We stayed here for two nights in August. Situated at the water front and within 25-30min walk from the old town district. There are many restaurants to choose within this area and a great view of Mount Vesuvius from the street.

The rooms are a little outdated however the level of service is exceptional. The reception staff organised a taxi to collect us from the central station and when arrived at the hotel, the porter brought our bags to our rooms. We were then given a map with a detailed orientation of the city. It was very hot in Naples whilst we were there and the staff made sure our room was nice and cool when we returned from a day of sight seeing.

Breakfast is served from the roof top terrace offering a great view of the water front. However, the food on offer for breakfast is very limited.

We stayed here one night after a banger rally. Hotel was well presented and in a great location.

The staff were extremely helpful, especially when we tried to scrap the banger. they called a scrapyard, arranged for the pick up etc.

About the hotel, yes its old, it has character. Compared to others i stayed in on this trip it was by far the best.
