“Gorgeous artworks, carvings, history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

If you are in Naples do not miss this old Monastery & museum. Definitely worth the small price for entry. We had it all to ourselves and were astounded by all the frescoes, beautiful carved doors, amoung many other things - and the history! We took the funiculare to Vomero and walked up past the castle. I am glad we opted to spend our morning here instead of the castle. We had a gorgeous view from the gardens at the museum - overlooking Naples. Allow plenty of time. Take in the art and the atmosphere. You may question - as we did - why is Naples so underestimated as a tourist destination? It has been neglected, but sites like this are now being cleaned up and opened up, and hopefully will receive well deserved recognition.

“We almost skipped this one, glad we didn't!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

This was not a site we had on our list when visiting Naples, Our guide insisted we take the time. It's at the top of the city, next to Castel St Elmo, so you can visit both if you schedule accordingly. Taking the furnicular to get to the top, then after a short walk you then see the beautiful view overlooking Naples, with Museo San Martino and St. Elmo behind you. Allow at least two hours, if not more, in here This place is full of beautiful frescoes and paintings and a host of other things that we were not expecting, including the biggest Nativity scene we had seen. The story behind the Neopolitan Nativity scenes and how they evolved through history is worth learning more about.

“Breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

A treasure at every turn. Stayed for sunset; my friend commented "Wow, now I know why they say See Naples and die! Come early and take in St. Elmo's castle next door. Wonder around in Vomaro for supper. You'll be surrounded by real "napolitans",
