“The real Naples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Honestly, it is not for the unadventurous, but if you are ready for the real Naples this is it !! The beauty and grittiness of old Naples speckled with friendly and helpful shop owners. Gorgeous. Remember, Naples is 2,800 (ish) years old. One of the oldest cities in existence today. Spacconapoli is the vibrant part of it's rich heritage. Awesome !!!

“Spaccanapoli on a rush”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Visited Spaccanapoli mainly for two things: Caravaggio's "Seven Acts of Mercy"; and, pizza. Both did not disappoint. The pizza at Da Michele was excellent and cheap if you take into account its history, reputation and the long queue outside its door. Caravaggio's painting is of course brilliant, but you have to peep through a trap door in order to understand fully his skill in employing the different and varying nuances of light and shades to capture the most vivid and colourful mages. Apart from these two, the area also well worths a visit. It helps you to get a glimpse into the typical daily life of the southern Italians. The vibrant colours of their laundries and bed linens that they hung from their windows, and the large variety of pastas that they enjoy everyday, for example. Actually, a middle age lady casually threw a basin of soap water from her first floor balcony into the street in front of us when we were trotting through one of those narrow and sloppy alleys. The local young man who was missed only by a few yards just shrugged it off while my friends who were more than 30 feet away burst into screams. Enjoy the area if you happen to be in Napoli.

“Can't see why other reviewers are raving about it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

A few hours' walk in Spaccanapoli was really what I have been most looking forward to for my trip in Naples after reading other reviews and travel guides. I can't say that I found this area very charming. Sure, nice for tourists, but you didn't really get to experience Neapolitans' everyday lives. I think it has acquired its reputation as a result of the many historical sites along these roads, but that's just about it. P.S. too dirty for me.

“Most beautiful italian city!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Napoli is a real city, genuine with its pro and cons. This is the main reason only true travellers and backpackers will love Napoli. Such city is so rare to be found in now a days Europe where everything is standardized. In Napoli you can breath ancient history. An unique city, with a mix of northern africa, mediterranean, southern america and european styles.

“Great Food, classy fashions, great prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

The narrow streets of Spaccanaopli should not be misses - plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, roadside eateries. More clothing shops you could visit in a couple of days - but clothes are classy and fashionable and well-priced. Amazing churches, statues, piazza's. Worth a visit.
