“Very good price and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

We sleep in this hostel for one night in the middle of june.
It is situated in a little street just near the metro station.
Persons that we meet for the welcoming and for the service are very helpful and kind !
The chamber was nice, and clean (the bathroom too). Just a little problem with the bed for me, which is too soft for me. But it's a very good place to stay !!

We should have known something was up when the directions read only "third ally on the left". It's a real, urine-stained ally, not just a small road.
The room hadn't been cleaned when we arrived -in fact, it still had the previous resident's coats and bags in there. When we asked for the room to be cleaned, the maid glared at us, rattled some cutlery in the sink, then stomped off leaving the previous residents' food all over the surfaces and ignoring us.
The bed was broken -snapped in two down the middle, unusable.
There were two large holes in the walls. Wiring was visible through one, mostly they just made the room very cold and gave our things a light coating of plaster dust.
The door not only didn't lock, but the doorknob fell off if we touched it. We took this to reception twice, asking for it to be fixed, and were told the first time not to touch it, then, and the second time to leave the door open at all times, so that management could see we weren't using "the kitchen area".
The "kitchen area" had bare wiring coming out of the back where the oven had been pulled out of the wall, a gas canister just sitting around, was covered in the mess of the previous occupants, and we had in fact paid for it, but heaven forbid we use it. So the receptionist demanded that a group of three teenage girls leave their hotel door open at all times, including when we're asleep and when we've left the hostel for the day. No.
The "en-suite" was, in fact, down the public corridor, and also not cleaned. It was a reasonable size, though, and miracle of miracles, locked.
"Breakfast" was ten minutes walk away across two main streets.
People with heavy bags or suitcases -so, travellers, the kind of people who would be staying in a hostel in the first place -should be aware that it's three floors up, with no option of a lift.
The night shift receptionist spoke no English at all. The day shift receptionist spoke basic English, but couldn't understand the concept of something being broken. Whenever we took concerns to him he behaved as if we had a problem with the colour scheme. Their boss, however, I must praise to the Heavens, as she only needed the problems of the bed and the lock explained once before she moved us to an affiliated hotel. One with functioning beds, basic security measures, and no holes in the walls!
The location's alright -very close to the train station -but the town is full of hostels and hotels that are exactly as close and have the added bonus of not being foul.
Do not, under any circumstances, stay here. I'm not exaggerating. I'm even leaving out smaller frustrations and disgusting parts. If you choose to ignore this warning, may mercy be upon your soul.

Room Tip: Other hostels can't possibly be worse!

A great location with wobbly beds and a very basic kitchen. That was OK, I have simple needs, but...
sadly the night hostel worker is a paranoid gossip. He was constantly asking each guest what the others were saying about him and his mood swung between welcoming and suspicious. This behaviour prevented the hostel from having a nice atmosphere and made me feel uncomfortable, so I checked out early.
A real shame as the other staff were great, and the hostel location is excellent.

We are really sorry about what you wrote and we assure that the person you mentioned is no longer a member of our staff and we are sorry if our image is penalized by this. As you wrote we have a great team and we would like to be appreciated for this and all the efforts we make in order to make customers feel "at home" and always welcome. We invite you to come back to our hostel and verify that the atmosphere will be pleasant and comfortable as always happens here. Best regards

My stay at the art hostel was only for two nights. I was in a 4 bed dorm room with a private bathroom. It was quite nice but the shower curtain got annoying and kept sucking into me! Also, because there is only a small ridge for the shower base, the floor flooded and we weren't provided with a bath mat so it got quite slippery. The hostel is quite nice and I would recommend it for a couple of days but probably no longer. Cheers!

Me and my husband stayed at Art hostel for about 10 nights. The location is very central, but calm and nice, near piazza Dante and the same named metro station. The stuff was very friendly - thank you once again :) The room was clean, bathroom - too. One little inconvinience was too slow flowing water in bath, but last days it was OK. In neighbourhood there are many not expensive shops, also supermarket, cozy restaurants. And amazing cheap bookshops if you read Italian. We had delicious breakfast at cafe about 100 meters from hostel. So, everything was perfect.

Me and my boyfriend spent 2 night in this hostel; we booked a private double room which was not very large, but clean and furnished with quite new IKEA stuff.
Although this hostel is in a central place, it is not easy to find it because it is in a tiny dark side street near to Piazza Dante. We tried several times to ask help by calling the hostel, but it was late (about 10 pm) and nobody answered the telephone (we can say that there was not a desk clerk even during the day ). If you have any problem we suggest you to ask informations to the near restaurant "La locanda dell'arte" (It owns to the Art Horstel's proprietor. PS: there is also a low price menu - 8 euro for pizza&beer - for hostel's guests ).
By following the indications they gave to us, we founded "Vico Luperano" street and discovered that the hostel was at the 4th floor of an old, quite crumbling building without lift!
When we finally reached the hostel we had to pay both night in advance.
Despite builing's external appearence, our room was very nice.
Unfortunately it was pretty near the entrance and the ENTRY PHONE (During the morning it rings continuosly!! - Ask a room more quiet if you can! ).
There were no shampoo, foam bath or hairdrier, but sheet and towels smells clean.
Even if we had some little problem to find it and if it seems not to be cozy by the external, I think that this Hostel is a good cheap accomodation.
