“Excellent Rooms in Historic Napolit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2011

We had a great stay in Portanova B&B excellent rooms. The breakfast was minimalist. The location was fantastic, amazingly quiet, we walked everywhere. I would definitely recommend this property.

Rooms in a large, recently renovated flat owned and operated by the pleasant and accommodating D'Angelo family. High level of comfort and hospitality, good for families; we stayed in a large, attractive, split-level room with queen/king beds upstairs and downstairs; we were free to use the tiny common kitchen, which is helpful for afternoon snacks etc. (though not suited for cooking). One of the most appealing things about the B&B for us was its location, tucked away in a lively and traditional residential neighborhood, but just five minutes up a stepped street into the heart of the Centro Storico. Go the other direction, and a five-minutes' walk takes you either to the Universita Metro stop or the famous Da Michele pizzeria. Another plus was the free wifi connection. The only drawback was the rather uninspiring breakfast (even by Italian standards).

The Portanova B&B is located in the Centro Storico part of the city tucked behind the main intersection of Via Duomo and Corso Umberto.  The buildings around are slowly being refurbished but it is not the prettiest part of town, but the B&B itself is great.  Big room by Italian standards, and modern bathroom fittings. It has been opened 2 years but has been well maintained.  The owners really leave you to yourself so not the right choice if you want full reception support or guidance for trip planning etc. Having said that, there is some information left by the various guests over the time, so that may help, but there are so many other places to get tourist information, this was not a drawback for us at all. This is a great location to walk to Via. Tribunali, the Duomo, central rail/bus station and the port. We even walked the holy mile up from Duomo to San Gennaro catacombs thru the side streets. I would most definitely recommend for the independent traveller.

Our family of five (2 adults, 3 teenagers) stayed here for 2 nights. Very nice hosts (do not speak English, but try to help anyway) - a family, typical Italian breakfast, clean rooms, roomy rooms, comfortable beds, clean bathroom. Located in the old city on a tiny street in a relatively quiet neighborhood. Good value for the money.

Had one night in Portanova. Was easy to find after a frightening taxi ride from the airport. (The drivers are mental in naples! Its as though they think they are the only car on the road and swerve around the road regardless of other traffic, I just shut my eyes and hoped I made it to the hotel alive!) The hotel itself was in an old building down a side street. The room was very spacious and clean. The owners speak minimal english but enough to understand the basics. Overall, a pleasant little B & B.

This is a new B & B. It was perfectly clean, well-equipped, with very nice owners. It's in a convenient location, but understand that the Historic Center is a quite chaotic part of Naples. Even though the city is very loud, with the window closed the room was perfectly quiet (and cool with my own A/C). I used Naples as a home base for day trips and appreciated the fact that I could walk to the Circumvesuviana train station in about 10 minutes. It's very convenient to buses to, and after coming off the boat from Capri I was back at the hotel in minutes.I would definitely stay here again.

Portanova B&B offered my wife and I a delightful hideaway for four nights in Naples, visiting the city and nearby Pompeii.

The B&B is tucked away in an unlikely back street which is noisy and dirty. But inside, up a steep staircase, the Portanova is a beautiful oasis. Well decorated throughout and well equpped, it is a cut above most B&Bs.

Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a big double bed, and a good bathroom with a lovely shower. I did have a few gripes about the room: I would have liked international channels on the TV to get English news. There was only one easy chair which we took it in turns to use!

The biggest disappointment was the breakfast - just a few pastries in plastic bags and a yoghurt, we couldn't understand how it could be described as "a delicious home made breakfast" as they claim.

Overall a bargain at the price we paid and a lovely place to stay in the bustle of Naples, just don't expect much of a treat for breakfast.
