“Very pricey and not great pastries”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Maybe we went on an off day but the pastries were stodgy and bland. I think you can easily find way better. Keep walking unless your feet are killing you and you are willing to pay 20 euros for a couple of coffees and 2 pastries.

“Beautiful place, beautiful gelato!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

Whilst in Naples, we stumbled across this gorgeous cafe near Plaza Reale.
The decor is stylish, the staff were friendly and accommodating, but their food was to die for - intense, creamy gelato, strong coffee, perfect pastries. It is worth a trip just to look at their wonderful displays.
Unfortunately, due to the short trip, we didn't manage to make it here for dinner, but late night coffee, liqueur and a sweet treat was the perfect way to end two of our evenings. We did feel that the food was pricey in comparison to the other places we went in Naples.
There is the indoor cafe area, and the outdoor sofa area (covered in winter) both of which were well attended by staff, and inside, the different counters.
If like us, you had to endure a sleazy jet flight home, stock up on some Gambrinus macaroons for the trip - they will help ease the pain of the flight!

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Having visited the Palazzo Reale, we emerged into a cold day, wanting coffee and cake. The Gambrinus offered both with great service. Excellent quality, worth a visit.

“La Dolce vita in Naples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Located in the heart of Naples, right across from the Teatro San Carlo the Royal Palace and the Galleria Umberto it is one of the oldest and most elegant caffe in Naples. The turn of the century decor brings back images of La Belle Epoque. You can have a quick espresso standing at the counter inside or take your time at a table outside. You don't go to the Gambrinus for the food as you can have excellent coffe in many other less expensive places. You go to the Gambrinus to have a feel of the old Naples. It was a favorite meeting place of the aristocracy and well to do artists. It is definitely expensive but with good service. All drinks are served with free hors d'oeuvres. I often go to Naples and this is a traditional stop for me after a morning of shopping.
