“Typifies Naples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

Stayed for a couple of nights after a week in Sorrento in July. This is a great hotel in the heart of the old town. Naples is a chaotic city of extremes and Palazzo Decumani exemplifies this. On arriving from the station (c.20 minutes on foot dragging suitcases) you walk down a street with derelict buildings and think, "Oh dear, what have I booked?" - and then, bam! a really swish hotel appears. Dont be concerned by the locale, the whole of Naples is like this with the rough rubbing shoulders with the smooth. We were too early to check in but the efficient staff allowed us to freshen up and took charge of our bags (we nipped into the church 10 mins walk away which has a Carravaggio). After a fortifying gelato we returned to find our bags had been taken up to our room - nice touch. The room itself was grand(ish), large, comfortable, clean and well-appointed. In the bathroom there were expensive potions, loads of fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers and some scales (not a good idea in the city of pizza). Breakfast was good with a wide variety of fruits, cakes, cereals, juices, cold meats and cheeses. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We were also given a free complimentary drink, which we took after our meal on the second night. This was a fine bellini accompanied by a wide array of nibbles (could have been a meal in themselves) served by a distinguised elderly gentleman. The view from the room overlooked a side street with bins but, hey this is Naples and the view from the front of the hotel overlooks the derelict building mentioned earlier. Being July this was low season in Naples which meant the room was only £63 per night. As we had spent the previous week in Sorrento with hindsight we would have spent a couple of nights less there and stayed in this hotel (Sorrento was more than double the price). The area where the hotel is situated is very safe and close to a wide variety of important sites. My wife is already planning our return to Naples and we will definately be staying here.
NB Get a fixed price taxi to or from the hotel to the airport - only 20 euros.

Naples is a very chaotic, noisy place, but this hotel is a nice retreat from that. It is in the Spanish Quarter, which isn't the nicest area of Naples, but definitely gives you a feel for the locals. Located in the historic centre, it was an easy walk to the train station and local attractions. We never felt unsafe walking around, but the hotels surroundings are gritty. Lots of piled up trash and grafitti everywhere, but that seems to be par for the course for Naples...every building and monument is covered with grafitti from the ground to about 20 feet up!
The hotel is modern and clean, but the bed was very hard. The free wifi was inconsistent. We could never get a signal in our rooms, and down in the lobby and the bar it was spotty at best, which was very frustrating. If you absolutely need wifi, keep that in mind before booking.

The front desk staff was fine but not overly friendly. The bar staff was the best...Tony and Salvatorre were so friendly and gave us a lot of wonderful recommendations on places to eat and things to see. Every time we went to the bar we received a plethora of delicious snack with our drinks. They are the primary reason I give this hotel 4 stars instead of 3.

We stayed at the Palazzo Decumani for 3 nights. If you've been to Napoli, you know just how busy, loud and chaotic it can be. This hotel was a relaxing and quiet retreat. Rooms are reasonably spacious by European standards, and as you'd hope and expect it was clean and comfortable. In our experience, Italian hotel beds can be quite firm - these are reasonably firm, but far from the firmest we've had in Italy. The buffet breakfast was good, and we enjoyed the use of the bar in the evening. The location is great if you want to eat at some of the top pizzerias in Napoli, and is within a 15 minute walk of most of the things a tourist to Naples will be interested in. No complaints really!

Room Tip: We were in a room to the back of the building on the 4th floor - very quiet.

Lovely spot in the heart of the historic centre, it made a nice respite after a long day walking around ruins or the busy city.

If you arrive on a Sunday (like we did the area will feel quite dead), but once everything is open again it's much more vibrant.

The only fault I could find with the hotel is their beds were a little springy (as in you can sort of feel them). However beds don't seem to be Italy's strong suit so you probably would struggle to find a better one in Naples.

The amazing shower and plush robes more than made up for the beds anyway!

we were welcomed and made very comfortable even though we were ahead of schedule. gorgeous suite very large and clean. Hotel staff fab, Antonio the bar man the best in the world - great buffet breakfast, good location and above all reasonable - If in Naples again will stay here - why change when all the ingredients were excellent! Location easy to railway, sea and taxis and local shops. Only one attempt of pickpocketing but was foiled - buy hey you get that anywhere - not the hotel's fault! After a hectic chaotic day it was lovely to retire to our suite which was calm and peaceful - and start the evening with cocktails made by the best bar man in the world. Everyone spoke English beautifully - pity my Italian wasn't so good! Have fun should you stay at the Decumani xx p and j

Room Tip: you get what you pay for - we chose the best and received excellence.\even though we were next to th...

We stayed here for one night recently and would certainly come back again if in Naples. The accommodation was extremely clean, staff welcoming and friendly and we found the room spacious. I cant comment too much about the location as we were only there for one night, but there were several eating places located within walking distance.
