Naples is a crazy city, but the Palazzo Decumani provides some tranquility amongst the stimulation! Set in the old part of Naples, you can walk anywhere you want within reason (say 20 minutes). We chose it for it proximity to Di Michaele and Di Matteo pizza restaurants, which are pretty much within 5 mins. Go there, the food is incredible.
The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful old building in a quiet location. The interiors are fairly standard for a good hotel, and not too many surprises. It didn't feel particularly authentic and rustic but as a first timer to the city i appreciated its familiarity. Don't expect amazing views from your window or anything like that though...what you see is Naples as it is, just what we wanted. Washing lines, mopeds, balconies of other flats etc.
Each evening we were treated to some extra nibbles and snacks (olives, tomato, cheese) at the hotel bar before we went out which was a nice touch. Breakfast was excellent with lots of fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, yoghurts, bread, juice. Possibly the best on our 2-week break.
Its the perfect place to have your first taste of crazy beautiful Naples.
PS: Expect to pay 20-25 euros from the airport including 4 bags in a cab.
