“Not bad - cheap and quick eats (typical Naples)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2012

Quick service, and nice cheap food - beef was delicious, as was the fried seafood. Not a romantic location, but does the job once you've had your fill of pizza.

“Excellent food, thieving waiter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2011

Our experience at Campagnola makes for a difficult review. We ate there 3 times during our week in Napoli. On all occasions the food was very good and some dishes were outstanding, particularly the parmigiana. Also good were the soute vongole, verdure alla griglia, spaghetti olive e capperi, and pasta patate e provola. The house wine was quite drinkable.

The incident that causes us to downgrade the overall rating occurred when it was time to pay the bill for our third and final visit. The bill was 29 euros and we gave the waiter 40 euros. When he returned, he gave us only 1 euro. As he walked away, I called for him, then pointed to the bill and the 1 euro change. Immediately he acknowledged the "mistake" and brought us the remaining 10 euros. His correction came with no urging from me other than the pointing. So, obviously, he knew what he had done.

It also needs to be mentioned that this restaurant is Trattoria Campagnola, not La Campagnola. The sign outside and the business card do not include the article "La." A street away is another establishment (on Via S. Biagio dei Librai) that is named La Campagnola.

“fresh ingredients, home made authentic flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

We chanced on this restaurant on our first night in Naples and were seduced by the mozzarella di bufala with prosciutto. Thinking that all mozzarella+prosciutto plates were the same, we ordered this at other restaurants all week and were disappointed (only having something similar at a colleague's house.) We went to other very good restaurants in Naples and Capri, but came back here for our last night and loved watching the cooks make lasagna in the kitchen while we ate the grilled and also sauteed vegetables, a simple but perfect mixed salad (with corn in it) and the mozarella+prosciutto of course. We also had the stuffed zucchini flowers that come along with some sort of mashed potato fritters with mozarella in the middle. Perfection. This was recommended by the waiter who realized we wanted a dinner of anti pasta. On our first visit we had mussels and also the spaghetti with a mixture of seafood. Both were lovely and fresh. The two waiters who served us were polite but busy, as this place fills up with locals and tourists, all mostly couples and families. We were not rushed, but it was clear that they do like to have you not linger, which is quite fair. It is the first place I will return to when I return to Naples..

“Good food but shocking service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2011

It seemed as though all the staff must have received a pay cut just before we arrived. We were early, about 7.00pm, and were ushered in by the owner. that was the last smile we saw. The cutlery and food was literally thrown at us and asking for anything extra was met with extra abruptness. The food was very good despite feeling very uncomfortable and wanting to leave asap. There was another young Italian couple there as well who received the same treatment. Obviously the staff don't want you in there before 8pm

“Lovely family run restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2011

Our hotel sent us here as part of the free package, so we weren't expecting too much. However, the food we had was lovely. I had the mozzarella and prusciotto to start which was great and then the mussels for my main course as the dorado had sold out. The mussels came plain but tasted absolutely great.

The only advice I'd give would be to order all three courses, as the portion sizes aren't enormous.
