Generally known as an exclusive and rather pricey beautiful little island. Capri is one of the most beautiful places in the world I have been to, especially after the last boat has left and with it the tourists.

There is a big choice of luxury hotels and due to availability we have booked the Marriott JW which is located beautifully on a hill within a couple of minute walk to lovely cafes and shops like Prada, D&G, etc but also to great walks to explore the Island beautiful landscape and hidden gems.

Given the fact that it is a Marriott Hotel, it felt indeed quite upbeat with great terraces and if you want to pay approx. 750 Euro in the main season per room per night surely also great rooms.

However, if you want to pay "only" 400 quit a night don't expect to much. The rooms have a very mediterranean touch, but it feels more being in a basement flat (small basement flat) in Chelsea with a view on a brick wall than in a five star hotel on Capri.

Staff was always very friendly and helpful. Food was satisfying and location was excellent.

Pro:

- beautiful hotel
- great terraces
- friendly staff
- clean
- great location and views
- nice sauna

Contra:

- price
- non-executive/view rooms

We had an amazing time on Capri - staying for 7 nights. We thought the hotel was in the perfect location for exploring the island, clean, and well maintained. However, we could never afford to stay at this hotel paying and even if we could afford it - I don't think we'd stay there. That being said, Capri is an expensive island so finding another hotel for less than 400 Euros a night could be impossible. Our Marriott point redemption could not have been better spent.

I thought the staff could have been friendlier including those at the "White Restaurant". We did not have the typical complimentary breakfast but one morning was charged 35 Euros (70 initially!) for two coffees! After we inquired, the restaurant manager said they only charge one price if you sit down for breakfast and it doesn't matter what you do or don't order. We told them they should do a better job making customers aware of this - he said something in Italian and walked away. Nonetheless, those were likely the two most expensive coffees we'll likely ever pay for in our life! We cancelled our dinner reservation at White that night.

Beyond this upsetting experience, I do agree with another member's review that the staff was awkward, especially around the pool area. They often did not know how to make you feel 'comfortable'. However, the front desk was top notch. Regardless, we spent 90% of our time exploring the island, going to beach clubs, and boating around the island.

Capri is an unbelievable place and we can't wait to go back (as long as we can use our points!). Hiking, amazing food, mountainous island, beach clubs, warm water, culture...

FYI - we were upgraded to a very large room along the street that you walked on to get to the hotel. A bit dark but very spacious and wonderful to hear and watch the locals make their daily trip to and from town.

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be able to stay here while visiting Capri. My boyfriend's father "purchased" the room for us using his Marriott points - we would have never been able to afford this hotel otherwise. This hotel is very expensive! Capri is the most beautiful place I've ever seen and I am happy that we had a comfortable and clean hotel to come back to every night after our explorations of the island.

We took the ferry from Naples to Capri. As soon as we walked off the boat, a nice man was standing at the dock holding a "JW Marriott" sign. He was so friendly and helpful. He took our bags for us (10 euro/bag...worth it for the trip to the hotel), gave us directions to the hotel, and supplied us with two free tickets for the cable car up the mountain. I highly recommend having him take your bags and taking the cable car, rather than paying for a taxi. The view up the cable car is great!

Once we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by A/C :) and a very friendly young woman. She was so helpful, got us all checked in, and even showed us a map of Capri and explained, in detail, everything that the island had to offer and how to get there. She then walked us up to our room and showed us in.

We received a beautiful fruit plate shortly after arriving. Beautifully displayed and yummy!

The room was super clean, nicely decorated, and so comfortable! It was rather small, compared to American hotels, but this wasn't a problem at all. The bed was huge and wasn't a typical European "double" bed, where they put two beds together. Instead, it was a regular king bed with a nice down comforter, which you need when the A/C is on full blast. The bathroom was really nice as well. Plenty of towels, two robes, and two pairs of slippers are provided. We didn't have a fantastic view, but we weren't worried. We had a nice little private porch outside our room that overlooked a courtyard at the back of the hotel. It was really nice sitting outside at night and just enjoying the beautiful summer weather.

The free breakfast (only weekdays) was really good! The view from the restaurant patio was breathtaking and, as always, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

The front desk purchased our ferry AND train ticket for us the night before we left - at no extra charge! We were all set to go back to Florence and didn't have to even lift a finger. When we checked out, everything was handed to us and we were ready to go. The day we checked out, they watched our bags for us as we went shopping for a couple of hours. Instead of paying the extra 20 euro for them to bring our bags down, we decided to lug them through the town ourselves. Not too bad.

We went swimming at the hotel pool one afternoon. The water was a little chilly for my liking, but it was nice nonetheless. The deck chairs were nice and comfortable.

We never ate at the White Restaurant, which is attached to the hotel, except one morning for the complimentary breakfast. However, we walked by the bar several times during the evening and heard a man singing live music. It seemed nice.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone who can afford it, or if you can use your Marriott points. I will never forget this hotel!

Having never stayed in Capri, I have no reference of comparison of other places to stay. But, we are frequent Marriot users and comparing that I will say that it was expensive for what you get. Especially with the euro conversion. I judge a hotel first by comfort of bed, quietness in room, then all else. On the plus side, the bed was extremely comfortable. The room was small but doable as there was a little deck. If there had been many other guests, that wouldn't have been great cause we faced a courtyard, not willing to spend an extra 150 euro to upgrade to ocean view. I recommend the same unless you plan on staying in the room which you probably won't because Capri is just a lovely place to stroll about. The breakfast is fantastic for European standards. They will make you a fresh omelet if you want. Just ask. Now, if you are going for the pool, don't go. Period. The pool is less than tiny. It looks large in the websites photos but it is not. Seriously you will be disappointed if you want a nice pool to lounge around or swim in. We only stayed for 2 nights and that was fine. I originally wanted to just lounge by the pool for those 2 days but after seeing the pool I decided to explore Capri. Which I am glad I did. The staff was very nice. The hotel is very clean. I agree with other trip advisor advice on paying for the luggage to be brought up, however, it took about 2 hours before we got our luggage so bring a carry on with what you will want when you arrive (toiletries, a change of clothes).

Odd and awkward

I would describe my stay at the Marriott Capri as Odd and awkward

My husband and I spent three nights here and while we had a lovely time in Capri, we were quite dissapointed with the Marriott. We had heard good reviews about this hotel and are really unsure why. There is nothing particularly special or unique and the rates are absurdly overpriced - so, I would seriously only recommend this spot if you are using Marriott points (and even in that case would probably recommend going elsewhere). Like some of the other reviews, we were initially placed in a very small room overlooking an ugly outside area with chipped paint and an air conditioning unit. I wasnt expecting a breathtaking view necessarily, but this was absurd. After complaining, we were upgraded to a much nicer room with a decent balcony (although construction noise was an issue at 8 AM each morning).

I found the staff to be a bit arrogant, unhelpful and poorly managed. My interactions with them were (coming back to this theme)....awkward. The staff would walk around the pool area (which needless to say was a very odd place in and of itself - more of the pool was indoor than outdoor and was ICE cold - really, I'm not sure if I would call it a pool at all) but were of no help, other than trying to push their spa services and asking me useless questions about my room number. There was nowhere to get a drink or snack poolside (in fact, when I asked where I could get a quick bite- they sent me hiking up a hill to a grocery store while there was another one just a block away) and no view of anything really. Additionally, I did not realize this until the last day but there was a whole indoor area near the pool with a steam/sauna that I feel like no one knew about, wasnt really staffed and had an ice-cold hot tub with some lounge chairs surrounding...very odd. The place was just odd.

The other thing I found strange was that the staff had little to no knowledge about the island/restaurants/etc. You would think considering the island is only 4 miles big, they would know about every inch but that was not the case. We found our way though but not because of the staff. The positives of the hotel really have to do with the island itself which is fun for a day or two but not really more. The location of the hotel is quite good and the hotel itself is pretty and clean.
