“Wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

I just cannot say enough about Hotel La Tosca. It was better than what we expected as all you see are pictures on the internet.Having never been to Italy before, I planned this trip and hotels from reviews at Trip Advisor. Hotel La Tosca was wonderful and very clean. Ettore and his staff are so helpful and nice and made our trip so enjoyable. The view from our room was awesome. The weather was fabulous the entire time. We stayed on Capri for one week and enjoyed every minute of it. As I was planning this trip, Ettore was very helpful in helping me setup the logistics of getting to Capri from Naples. Our car was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport and took us to the port. We took the hydrofoil to Capri and the directions and tips he sent us were very accurate. We had the porters at the dock take our luggage and deliver it to the hotel. Make sure you do this....it's worth the 10 euros each per bag to do this. There are many, many steps up steep inclines. Very difficult to manage luggage, backpacks, etc. I read this tip on Trip Advisor and the person was right. Worth the money to have your bags delivered to the hotel. Be prepared to do a lot of walking as there are no cars in Capri. Make sure you have very comfortable shoes for all the walking and hiking you will be doing. The scenery is breathtaking and unbelievable. After our week on Capri we stayed on the Amalfi coast. Ettore was great in helping us setup our transfer to Praiano. We took a private boat which was very reasonable in price and our luggage again was delivered to the dock where the boat departed. We loved Capri and Hotel La Tosca. If we go back to Capri we will definitely stay at Hotel La Tosca. Wonderful place... Wonderful hotel, close to the city center but far enough away from the noise. Very quiet and beautiful.

Room Tip: Plan far enough in advance to get a room with a terrace and ocean views.

Hotel La Tosca is located an easy walk down from Capri Town’s main Piazzetta with all the restaurant cafes. You walk through the Piazzetta, down through Via Federico Serena (past La Palma, past Quisisana), make a right up the more private ramp/walkway at Via Matteotti, another right at Via Dalmazio Birago, then Hotel La Tosca is on the left. The Hotel is close to all the main action but tucked away on a side street so that it is a peaceful oasis with a great view of the Faraglioni. The hotel is next to beautiful pergola-lined paths around the old Monastery, and it is next to the Augustus Gardens, a beautfiul little garden (1 euro entrance) from where you can view the Faraglioni and Via Krupp winding below.

The hotel has simple, modern, clean facilities, and a lovely communal terrace where the continental breakfast is served, as well as the evening sip of limoncello. Ettore and the staff are wonderful at helping you plan your stay and add a nice personal touch to everything. We travelled in a group of 4 (two couples) and got a quad room with a terrace. Our last night, there were fireworks, and we thought it was quite special to watch them from our terrace. This hotel is a fantastic value.

Some General Tips on Capri:

*LUGGAGE. If you arrive with heavy luggage or generally don’t like to be encumbered winding through crowded little streets, look for the Porters at the Dock (blue uniform). For about 10+ euros a bag, they can take your luggage directly to your hotel. When you leave, you can arrange for the same porters to take your luggage from the hotel to the dock and even put it right on your ferry boat (make sure you give them the right ferry and time-you don’t want to send your luggage somewhere else!)

*TAXIS. The bus lines can get very long. Since there were four of us, taking a taxi to (and from) Anacapri became a very affordable alternative to waiting in the long bus line and riding the cramped bus. For four of us, taxi drivers were pushing it when asking for 20 euros to Anacapri. The nicer taxi drivers charged us only 15 euros for the ride to Anacapri.

*DINNER at MARINA GRANDE. We opted to eat dinner at Marina Grande one night. At a certain time the funicular closes, so we had to take a taxi back to Capri town. Again, for the four of us, 15-20 euros.

*ANACAPRI. Going to the top of Mount Solaro for breathtaking views of the Island and the Faraglioni is a must (one of our party was afraid of heights but even she loved the chair lift ride!). Mount Solaro can easily be done on the same day as visiting Villa San Michele. Villa San Michele can get swamped. We heard it was less busy around 2 pm, and we did find that to be true! We escaped the large crowds by going to the Villa around 2 pm.

Room Tip: We loved our Terrace. Request a room with a Terrace if possible.

This was our first trip to Italy, and our first visit to Capri. It was easy to locate given the detailed directions. The first and best impression made was by the owner Ettore, such a warm, friendly man, we were so overwhelmed first by his hospitality, and then the location of La Tosca itself. Beautiful surroundings and a wonderful view of Capri. It was easy to get around on foot on Capri island, and Ettore made sure we had lots to explore with his complete expertise of the island he gave us helpful insights and tips to walking and exploring. This made our trip so easy and fuss free.

The room was very clean and lovely. Ettore's staff were excellent as well, so warm and friendly it felt we were living in his home and his staff were family.

We have nothing to complain about and for the price we paid, we are more than happy that we did not make the wrong decision with La Tosca.

Arrived, met the Owner Ettore, felt the warm and perfect hospitality, loved the place and Ettore and all of his well selected friendly staff... La Tosca is clean, and its minimalistic interior is just perfect... The Location is great, only a few minutes walk from Capris Piazzetta, no noice though. The Price is more than fair. Get a room with Ocean view!

We had a totally stunning stay at La Tosca. The room was beautiful, as was the service by the owners. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace each morning looking out over the amazing view and the proximity of the hotel to the main hustle and bustle of town. Couldn't recommend this hotel enough as it provides superb value for money and is very stylish.

This was our second time to stay at La Tosca. As usual, the hospitality was outstanding. Ettore, his father Sandro and management Antonio were so gracious and accommodating as was Maria.

This hotel offers a wonderful breakfast and the location provides a stunning view. The rooms are spacious and extremely clean. The air conditioning works very well.

We were excited to return to Capri because staying at La Tosca is one of the highlights of visiting this beautiflul island.

Room Tip: Room 50 has a large balcony with a gorgeous view.

We stayed for 2 nights and wished we had planned to stay a few more. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast is very nice and the staff is very accommodating. The best part, however, is the owner, Ettore. He was helpful with everything from dinner reservations to places to walk to boat reservations. It was the perfect spot, so happy we booked there, hope to get back there in the future.
