This was our first trip to Capri and our travel company listed Hotel Villa Marina as a one hotel we would enjoy. Capri was our final stop in a 15 day tour of Italy,.Upon arriving to the hotel, we were greeted very warmly by the young woman at the reception desk. It was near dinner time and we were offered a light snack and drink out on the terrace area. The attendant even brought seat cushions out for us. The hotel is situated in a really quaint part of town; church bells and athletic field all in close proximity. The rooms are a bit small and cramped. We actually had a difficult time fitting our luggage without tripping over it. But, still stylish and the beds were comfy.
Our room was facing the pool and had a fabulous view of the ocean.
The bathroom was definitely not cleaned prior to our entry. It was designed a bit tricky to say the least...the huge "banana shaped" sink was not user friendly and was also very dirty when we first entered the room. I had to call to have it cleaned and the cleaning attendant argued that "we had dirtied the sink" as she commented that the faucet had been "turned on". I found this a bit odd, but she cleaned the bathroom and smiled as she left our room. We decided to order room service upon arrival at the recommendation of the concierge. He commented that the chef was an incredible addition to the hotel and the food was amazing. We cancelled our restaurant reservations and ordered light sandwiches and grilled veggies. The sandwiches came, no veggies. The sandwiches were cold and not very appetizing. The waiter, who was quite attentive, said he would get our grilled veggies immediately. Thirty minutes later , they arrived cold and flavorless...not like the tasty grilled veggies we had experienced during our travels through Italy.
Breakfast was a similar experience. Coffee had to be"ordered" and there was a lack of waitstaff during breakfast. Coffee took way too long to be served and it seemed as though they were making it cup by cup...very odd.
Eggs were also not readily available as in the other hotels we stayed in and to be ordered as well. All in all, the Hotel Villa Marina is a cute boutique hotel set away from the hustle and bustle of the main area. If you are seeking something small and modern, this is your place.
