“Stay at Amalfi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Excellent hotel, desk staff excellent Maria Giovani was outstanding very helpful. Breakfast in am was very good (better than previous hotels in Italy)', rooms very clean, safe available in room if need, room service and offered local wines were very good. Shuttle service was very handy to and from Sorrento and local bus convenient right in front of hotel.
Panorama restaurant food was good, one of 2 closest options. Panorama owned by hotel owner so shuttle available.
Only negative is location is about 20 minutes from Sorrento --but the view and service was worth it.
We would stay here again as well as recommend highly.

Room Tip: Take one on second level. No spa fitness center. Nice small outdoor pool. Nice terraces.

We had a beautiful room with a beautiful view at Hotel Prestige. Roberto and Maria were such gracious hosts, making us feel welcome the entire time. We felt so comfortable talking to them and sharing ideas. We used the services of the shuttle and really enjoyed talking to the driver (Notale sp??), who was attentive to our every need and drove us safely to Sorrento to take the ferry to Capri, as well as to a really good restaurant close to the hotel, Il Panorama. We liked it so much, especially the grilled mussels and the wine from their own vineyards, that we went back two nights in a row. We would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Sorrento.

Room Tip: We had a romantic room with private terrace and solarium--super!!

We travelled to Sorrento as a group of six middle aged friends for a five night stay in the Prestige hotel and we used the hotel as a base for our sightseeing .
The hotel is beautifully situated at the top of a very winding hill and the panoramic views are magnificent. It takes approximately 25 minutes from hotel to the meeting point and drop off area in Sorrento by courtesy shuttle bus . The bus will also drop you off at the local train station if request is made.
The rooms are spotless and the beds are very comfortable which is a must after a long day of sightseeing.
By far the best asset is the staff who are charming helpful and courteous and went above and beyond what anybody would expect from a hotel.
My friend left her bag on the local bus and the receptionist went to the bus station before arriving on duty to retrieve it for her. Every request we made was dealt with immediately and everyone seemed to be pleasant and smiley.
The room cleaners always greeted us and kept the rooms immaculate. The mattresses and sheets looked brand new and the bathroom and shower area kept very clean. Keep up the good work girls. You do an amazing job !
Breakfast was wonderful with a choice of hot scrambled eggs (not powdered but as you would make at home ) bacon and baked beans. A good selection of cooked meats and cheese, and plenty of cakes .
Honestly I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Wow, amazing for so many people to agree on how good a hotel is .... we certainly agreed. We were a family of three, travelling by car. We really enjoyed the wiggly drive up into the mountains (though a bit stomach churning for kid in the back). The view and the look of the hotel are both spectacular. Car park good, right opposite the hotel. We went for one of the cheaper rooms (internal view). It was still a stunning room - really nicely decorated and very clean, with a little walled-in patio area at the back. Bathroom smallish, but very nice. Our room was just a few steps away from the swimming-pool/sun lounge area, which is absolutely stunning ... really beautifully designed. From the sun lounge there are paths up the hill through gardens until you you get too the roof terrace, which is a really great place to sit and have a drink. There is even an elevator directly from the roof terrace down to the hotel foyer! Both the sun lounge and roof terrace have phones installed for you to order drinks and food. Breakfast was pretty good. Some people might complain that the hotel has no built-in restaurant for dinner, but we had no problem with the 5 minute shuttle bus to 'Il Panorama', where we really enjoyed the food.

I have to echo the other reviewers: the staff here is astonishing! I felt like they were my friends (of course we were there for 9 nights). Every day when we came back from our excursions they asked about our day and were genuinely interested in our group—as they were with every guest—it is the most genuine friendliness and helpfulness. Before we left I was unable to reach our next hotel (in Sicily) and was concerned about confirming our reservations and arrival time (we had been switched because of renovations and the whole thing was still unresolved). I brought my problem to the front desk and the staff called the hotel for me and sorted the whole thing out. They did it cheerfully and willingly—an enormous boon to my labors as group leader. One of the members of my group also had an issue with his credit card (the charge didn’t go through at a restaurant and he paid cash but then the charge showed up on his card). The staff at the front desk called the restaurant and helped him sort that out as well.

The hotel is really nice (one review complains about the ground floor rooms but they were very nice too—they have big patios that don’t have a view but are private and lovely. Breakfast is great if you love sweets! So many different kinds of cakes. But they also have lots of fresh fruit and yogurt and great juice and coffee—real coffee, as in they bring you a cappuccino from the espresso machine. The views are also spectactular.

Everything here is perfect: except one thing. If you come here with a car it is heaven. If you are strong and up for hiking it is also great (some of us walked down the steep narrow paths to town and back up again—lots of fun but not for the faint of heart; there are also great hikes up further to Sant’Agatha—including an amazing park). BUT—we were a group whose purpose was to see archaeological sites. It was not smart of me to stay in Sorrento in the first place—it is not the closest place to the sites. But it takes the mini-bus a twenty minutes to a half hour to get to town (unless there are just a couple of people—then they take a car and it takes 10 minutes). So you have to add that travel time to whatever time the circumvesuviana takes. The mini-bus does not run continually—there are hours in the morning and then in the evening. So if you get back from your day and want to go to the hotel at 4 you have to try your luck with a public bus (or walk—the walk is great!).

But! This is not a flaw of the hotel—it is the trade-off for the hotel’s situation in the lovely hills above the tourist bustle of Sorrento. And a 3 minute walk away is the pizzeria Dal Salvatore (which is wonderful!) so you can go all day and have dinner up by the hotel at night. I kept saying to my students that if we were staying at a less wonderful hotel the choice to stay in the hills above Sorrento would have had me tearing out my hair—but the Prestige made the inconvenience of travel time worth it.

I picked this hotel thanks to all the other tripadvisors out there, so thank you to all that advise. So, we took a flight into Naples International and rented a car. Turned on the Garmin GPS and the Garmin took me directly to the hotel. I had heard you have problems getting to the hotel with GPSs, which is true, because I later used a TomTom and that GPS got me lost multiple times. Ok, so we get to the hotel which sits overlooking Sorrento like Tiberius's Summer Palace in Capri does. WOW, what a view. Breathtaking. Get parked, go to the front desk and are met with nothing but smiles, courtesy, and warmth. And this never stops the entire week long vacation. Get the suitcases up to the room and WOW again. The view from the balcony is wonderful. Looking from an even higher vantage point into the city of Sorrento. Loved the room. Spacious, firm beds, clean all the way around, crisp sheets. Really enjoyed the room each and everyday after each days adventure. I never once had to ask for the room to be cleaned or for the extras. Everything was cleaned and well serviced promptly by the very polite cleaning staff. Thank you ladies. Now I have seen some posts that mentioned the traffic noise. I did not have an issue with it. Yes cars drive by, but I found it entertaining, because most were locals or people on their way to Positano. The traffic is light during the day. At night the traffic is almost none existent and you can't hear it anyways once you close the blind doors and the double pane doors. I love the blind doors, it makes the room so dark. I'm like a bat and need it very dark. Ok, breakfast. Very good, enjoyed every day. They make an excellent cappachino, so make sure you get one. yum. I forgot to take a photo of the breakfast, but it is your typical European breakfast. cold cuts, cheese, pastries, eggs, variety of cereals. A very pleasant breakfast and the breakfast staff are extremely polite and welcoming. Now, the shuttle service. I was a bit skeptical of how well this was going to work out and how cooperative the hotel would be with it. But the shuttle service to Sorrento is outstanding. I used it every single day and it was perfect. They have three to and from Sorrento in the morning. This was perfect to take the ferry over to Capri. Then they have four to and from in the afternoon/evening. This was great, because after a day of touring Mt. Vesuvius or Pompeii we would get back, take a shower, and then head down to Sorrento for dinner. That service makes the trip so easy. I would like to thank their driver "Natale". What a great guy. He gave us excellent direction around Sorrento, good restaurant tips, and even made an Andrea Bocelli CD. That was so fun to listen to during our drive along the Amalfi coast. Overall we had a 110% positive experience with this hotel. The staff treated us like family, the entire hotel is immaculate, breakfast was pleasant each and every morning, and the shuttle service made our trip a success.

Room Tip: Choose a balcony room. Great views.

Excelent location with a superb view over Sorento and Vezuviu vulcano, very nice staff, clean and comfortable rooms, convenient shuttle bus to Sorento, parking across the street and a very charming restaurant close by the hotel: "Da Salvatore" - recommended by the hotel staff.

Room Tip: romantic rooms have a wonderful view
