“Clean and Updated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

This hotel was simple although clean and updated with helpful and pleasant staff. Our bedroom, on the back side, was quiet and we had an elevator to get to it. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast (usual Italian style of meat, cheese, croissants, cakes, cereal, yogurt, juices and coffee) was good to get you going for the day.

The location was very convenient with a short walk to the Circumvesuviana train (to Naples, Pompei and Herculaneum), also to the bus for the Amalfi Coast and also to many shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay in Sorrento (lovely city and don't forget to try the local Limoncello!) and we would certainly stay here again.

Clean and simple, excellent value. Everything looks new (or well maintained). Less than 5 minutes walk from station which was great as we were visiting Pompei, Herculaneum, Oplontis and Naples by the Circumvesuviana train. The airport bus also drops off here (6 a day from Naples airport). Also close to the rest of town (in the other direction) for shops and restaurants. Good breakfast (great coffee, pastries and cakes) but no cooked food (they had hams, cheese, yoghurt, muesli etc). Unfortunately the roof terrace was devoid of furniture due to a lot of rain which was a shame as when the weather improved it would have been a lovely place to enjoy the sun. Perils of going out of season I guess! As for the rooms we got front facing ones with balcony as requested. This is a little noisy but didn't affect my sleep and was good for people watching. In warmer weather it would make a nice place to sit out. I also liked the bathroom- the shower was good and the water hot at all times of day. Overall I was very happy with my choice and would gladly stay there again.

If you're using Sorrento as a base for the Amalfi Coast and are simply looking for a no-frills room with a good location, then Hotel Sorrento city is perfect.

We stayed in Sorrento as a hub for Positano, Capri, and Pompeii on a budget. Hotel Sorrento city was perfect for our needs. The room was a perfectly adequate size, comfortable bed, spotlessly clean. The bathroom had a wonderful shower, wonderful toiletries, and a big clean sink. Loved the bathroom - great size.

The location is perfect - it is right around the corner from the train station & Sorrento bus stop and a 1-3 minute walk of so many different restaurants and all the main shops. Also adjacent to a grocery store - another plus. Simply unbeatable. You do not have cliffside views of the bay or anything here since you're in the middle of town, but that wasn't of concern to us this visit. Though we were there in a quieter season, we were pleasantly suprised at how quiet it was in our room even though we were on the main street.

We were staying in the off-season and had a room with a balcony view of the street - very charming. Were disappointed that the rooftop was not open for our stay, but it was rainy throughout so didn't really matter.

Only negative comment is that baggage storage is claimed as an amenity here. This is true - the staff very kindly held our luggage before/after our check in/out. However, the luggage is not locked in a closet and is placed in a corner of the lobby, so just be aware of this if you plan to pack valuables in your bag. Perhaps the hotel could store the luggage behind the desk or in a special closet one day.

We spent three nights at the Hotel Sorrento City in October 2013. The price was right and the reviews looked good so we took a shot and booked this hotel. We were very happy with it! It's a short walk from the train station which was very convenient since my boyfriend and I both had big suitcases. It's in a great location right on the main street that crosses through Sorrento. The rooms are nice and clean and we had a room with a balcony overlooking the street so it was fun to overlook the hustle and bustle of the city. At first, we thought we might have mad a mistake not paying a bit more and staying in a hotel overlooking the water. But in reality, we were barely in our room since we did so much exploring so it was the perfect hotel to do just that - easy to get to the train for day trips (we went to Pompeii) and easy to walk to the Marina (we took a ferry ride to Capri). We were better off spending our money eating at the delicious restaurants and drinking the famous limoncello! The people are friendly. There's a nice little breakfast in the morning and they have wireless so you can check email etc while enjoying your coffee.

I'd go back here definitely! Highly recommend for couples looking for a clean nice room that doesn't break the bank.

We arrived by train from Naples and set off walking to find a room. Came across this little hotel and was pleasantly surprised. The price was very reasonable and the location is perfect. The room are on the small side like much of Europe but it was very comfortable and I wish we could have extended our stay. The front desk staff was excellent and provided great recommendations. Breakfast was included in the rate and was adequate. Would definitely stay here again. There is a laundry down the street and a grocery store that is very close to the hotel.

This was our fourth time overnighting in Sorrento, and in the past we've stayed at much more expensive hotels for the views of the ocean. This time we traveled on a modest budget and chose this hotel because of the reviews on Tripadvisor. The positive reviews were accurate.

It's a two-story building with about six rooms that have balconies facing the street below. The second floor they we stayed on was full of light and had a rooftop bar which looked very inviting but was closed for winter we assume.

Our room was very small, but had a comfortable large bed that took up most of it. The mattress and pillows were very firm, which we like. The bathroom was also tiny, but very clean and modern. We had a little flat screen tv that got CNN, and a small refrigerator with beer, water and coke for purchase.

What we enjoyed the most was the small balcony overlooking the street, and the perfect location. The balcony had two chairs and a table, and we really enjoyed watching the people coming to and from main Piazza just a half block away. There is a great Deco grocery store right next door, a wonderful bakery and a liquor store. The train/bus station was a five-minute walk away.

Breakfast was served in a spotless, attractive room that had a variety of the usual Italian pasteries, meats, cheese, yogurt and breads, but it also had a self serve cappachino machine which we really appreciated. We would definitely return to this property.

Room Tip: The first floor of rooms facing away from the street seemed as though they might be a little dark. T...

We have stayed at this hotel twice now, and have loved it on both occasions. It is very centrally located but costs significantly less than other bigger hotels in the same area. The rooms are small but very clean with a great power shower in the ensuite bathroom. The main reason we love this hotel, though, is the friendliness of the reception staff. They are always cheerful and informative and are happy to give good information about local restaurants, trips etc. We will come back to Sorrento in the future and we will definitely stay here when we do.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony overlooking the street at the front of the hotel to get a flavour for S...
