“Lovely hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

This is a lovely B & B in a fabulous location. You could eaaily walk past without even seeing the property as it is tucked away but it is worth finding.
We had one of the larger rooms with a little balcony where we had breakfast each morning. The breakfast was lovely and set you up for the day.
The location could not have been better, once out of the private gate it is about a minute walk to the main square.
Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the larger rooms with the balcony.

ive just checked my booking after getting home after looking at other reviews on here and realised we should have had a large room with a balcony, instead we were put in a smaller room with a skylight, hmm.

apart from that the room we stayed in (Almalfi) was tastefully decorated and clean. Cant complain otherwise. I would have rate the stay as excellent if i hadn't noticed the room error, maybe thats my fault for not checking though

we didnt have breakfast here.

Room Tip: check your booking purchase!

Very simple to get to from train station. We walked with luggage,no need for a cab ( save your $) Carlo the owner was very helpful and approachable. Our rooms we very nice with a little balcony to sit and have a drink or eat. Nice large bathrooms and everything was very clean .So nice to walk out he door and a few yards and you were at the main drag, shops, restaurants etc. Carlo arranged for a shuttle back to Naples as we had a terrible experience on the private train line from Naples to Sorrento. It was worth every penny. Carlo also had a restaurant in town run by part f his Amy,it was very good, not fancy but good food. A good stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the balcony room it faces a lovely courtyard/ walkway . We ,brought back treats and sat out...

We stayed for two nights - room only. No breakfast. The location is really great - just 1/2 block from the main square - a very easy walk to the train station, restaurants and shops. The marina is just down the hill. The room size was average - a stand up cabinet for a closet. The bathroom was above average in area, but very narrow. Our room had a skylight but no window. Wifi was good, but insecure (no password access). Therefore, I avoided checking any websites sites where security is necessary (e.g., banks). The innkeeper, Carlo, owns a restaurant nearby and offers a discount. For us, it was not a B&B experience, but a room for rent - no breakfast and we had minimal interaction with the staff; we seldom saw the innkeeper or staff. The innkeeper was a little irritating regarding payment. Although we pre-paid for the room through a travel agency, on check-in Carlo demanded payment. After some back & forth, it turns out he mistook us for another couple also checking in that day. No one had asked us for our names, but we gave them our passports. At check out, we were asked multiple times ... "anything from the mini-bar?" and "did you pay the city tax?" For these reasons, I took off a point from the rating.

This B&B is less than a minute away from the main square (Tasso Square) and all the shops and restaurant. It is also convenient for the port and the railway station.

Rooms are a good size with excellent air-conditioning. One downside (not the fault of the B&B) is that we experienced some noise/disturbance from the street in the early hours, so you might want to ask for a room that does not face on to the street.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. He can arrange breakfast, if you wish, but there's no point given there are many places to go just outside the hotel.

We stayed at La Magnolia for 6 nights on a family trip with one room downstairs (linking out onto the patio) and one upstairs. This B&B is probably the best value you will find in Sorrento (for the quality that you get). It is right off the main square, but hidden behind a large gate so you would probably just walk right past it without looking for it. Some of the rooms do face the road which means you do get a bit of traffic noise, but nothing too loud. We chose Sorrento as our base for visiting the rest of Amalfi so wanted a hotel to suit this convenience and La Magnolia hits the mark for that being walking distance to the centre of town, the train station and the ferry port.

The rooms themselves are basic, with bed/s, closet, desk and mini bar. Everything is wooden throughout and lovely. This hotel is one of many business ventures your host Carlo looks after, so this place isn't like a hotel with 24hour concierge/check in, daily cleaning service etc. so it is more like a self contained apartment without the kitchen experience (but that was not a problem for us). Talk to Carlo about your plans for your stay i.e. day trips to Capri, Positano etc. as he knows the best way of doing everything and is only too happy to help out.

We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment, but there are plenty places on the square nearby and Carlo also owns a cafe nearby that we ate at that made a pretty good omelette!

All in all this place is a great place to base yourself in the Amalfi region for a longer term stay. Hotels across the road and nearby are at least double the price and whilst you might get some more conveniences/better amenities - you would be kidding to pay for that when this place is across the road (however if you are looking to spoil yourself on this trip, then yes, do give those places a go instead).

The only thing negative thing I have to say is that it did get a bit noisy inside the hotel at times. Because everything is wooden there is a lot of noise with doors opening and closing and echoing of your neighbours in the room next door. This happened a few nights and because guests arrive at all times, you could be sleeping when next door moves in and it can be a bit loud. It might not be an issue for some, but I just happen to be one of those people that is a really light sleeper and can't stand noise so it got on my nerves, but maybe more so than others - just luck of the draw with who your neighbours are as well I guess.

Finally, a tip for planning your arrival! As I mentioned above, Carlo looks after a few ventures in the area so he isn't at the hotel at all times. He will spend the morning or afternoon there, but not all day. To make sure he is there when you arrive, do contact him prior and let him know your expected arrival time so that he is there (he is flexible and will meet you late at night like he did for us) but make sure he is across it otherwise you will be left standing outside the gate waiting!!!!!

Carlo is the man!! I have stayed in many four stars throughout Sorrento. This place is better!! Big rooms, ice cold AC!! and very comfy beds! U need anything just ask Carlo and its done!! All this for less than half the price of the four Stars!!
You can use the pool across the street for 15 Euros! Best Value for your money.

Also Ask Carlo to arrange a boat and get out on the Sea!! By Sea is the only way to enjoy Sorrento!!
