“Great hotel for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

We stayed on a Thomson package in early October 2012. Stayed in room 47 which is on the 3rd floor at the rear with a fantastic view of Vesuvius and the bay of Naples. We paid the room upgrade and was worth doing to avoid any road noise to the front of the hotel.
Pleased with the breakfast, pool area and service in the hotel. Good clean place and hotel staff are friendly and owners are very polite. A wave and 'hello' nearly everytime we left the reception.
When ordering drinks etc in the hotel a tally is kept and you settle a bill at the end for everything. Very handy for the pool during the day.
A nice touch on check out was the breakfast package for our early flight home.

Room Tip: Pay the room upgrade fee if booking via Thomson - its worth it.

We have been to this hotel for 2 consecutive years. We had a lovely room - very clean and cool with great views. the staff are friendly and helpful; it does not have the clinical approach of a chain hotel. Breakfast can be taken in the charming garden every morning.

Room Tip: Try and book a room with a sea or garden view, at the back or side.

I visited this hotel on a weeks vacaction with Thomson, never having done a 'package' before, it was not me that booked this, the friends I went with did.
there were four of us in two separate twin and double rooms, the overall experience was fine, my negatives where that our room, was at the front of the hotel, - right on a constantly busy main road, so no having a quite sit on the balcony! and the room was pretty small, and my bed was as solid as sleeping on a board! also the location being just a little too far from convenient places to eat in the evenings, one of our party had difficulty in walking more than 10 mins or so, and therefore most of the time we had to resort to taxi's (which were pretty expensive for the distance) We didnt find the air conditioning particulary impressive, but think it worked., take your mosquito repellant if visiting Sorrento in Sept too, we got bitten quite alot, dispite lots of protection, so dread to consider what it would have been like without!
However if you are happy to try the bus' most of them seemed to run frequently, but nearly always the return from town or the Marina's, they were crammed and we never got a seat unless we got on at the beginning of the route.
On the upside The Hotel owners and what seems like most of their family are wonderfully helpful, and fantastic with their English, that they will share a joke or two as well, always on hand should you need anything, and greeted everyone with a smile. the facilities all around the hotel where spotless, and clean linen even in the wash room at the poolside, the terrace is extremely pretty a great location to sit and have breakfast (which are very comprehensive) or a drink in the evening. The Pool at the hotel was a great addition, and even caters with snacks and drinks during the day, so should you wish to take a break from sight seeing and relax you can easily while away a day (or two) although we all agreed that in sept (when we visited) the water was very invigorating..... at 21* it was a big contrast to get in to the water.
I wouldnt choose to stay at The Girasole again, myself, but if you do your homework regarding what you wish to visit and how you will travel to get there, sus out your room booking avoiding the front of the hotel (unless you sleep through most anything and dont mind a poor view, with fumes from traffic intense enough to ignite) I think its one worth a go, they do seem very busy throughout the season, and work really hard at making sure their guests are happy.
But there are some things that just cant be addressed. Largely the location, the main road is really difficult to walk along at some points and makes waiting for a bus very unpleasant with the volumes of traffic that speed along. but for some, non of these things will matter, unfortunately for us some of them did!

Room Tip: first floor over looking the rear - the terrace have amazing views and are 90%quieter than at the fr...

I stayed at the hotel recently and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful there and have a great pride in working at the Girasole. The breakfast was very comprehensive, typically continental, ham, cheese, croissants etc - don't forget to try some of the neapolitan pastries such as sfogiatella and baba which is soaked in rum, delicious !You have the option to have breakfast outside in amongst the orange and lemon trees.
The swimming pool was nice with a pool bar located there for drinks and snacks.
My room was nice and clean but as a single room they are located overlooking the busy road and can be noisy. That said I didn't spend that much time in the hotel. You can walk to Sorrento which will take you about 20 minutes but there is the local bus service which is every 20 minutes or alternatively you could go and eat in Sant'Agnello which is about a 10 min walk or get the train to Sorrento from there which is about 5 minutes.
Would I stay in this hotel again ? Definitely.

Myself and my boyfriend are just back from a week in Sorrento and even though the resort itself was lovely I'm afraid the same cant be said for this hotel. We booked this hotel to begin with because it was one of the cheaper options in Sorrento and not only did the rooms have balconies but it also had a pool. Some of the more expensive options did not. Before booking I read the reviews on Trip Advisor and seen that 123 people said it was "excellent" and only about 9 reviews had anything bad to say. Therefore I presumed the 9 bad reviews were from some seriously grumpy people who are never happy. I was soon proved wrong (that or I too am one of those grumpy never happy individuals).

The hotel is on the main road in Sorrento and boy do you know it when you have to walk back and forth from the centre of town. At points there is no pavement so you have to walk as close to the wall as possible whilst being poisoned by the fumes from the cars, trucks and hundreds of vespa's flying past. The 20 minute walk itself wouldnt have bothered me if it had been safer and more peaceful.

We were shown to our room (64) which is actually in the annexe, it was on the ground floor so we had no view of anything except a brick wall with some bushes/flowers on top. Because it was so low the sun would never be on this patio area so it was never used. The walls in the anexxe are paper thin, we could hear people talking in the rooms next door, we could hear people showering, drying hair, flushing toilets, watching tv..you name it!! The shower cubicle in this room was pointless. The showers are powerful which is a good thing but that plus a shower curtain meant the bathroom floor was soaked every time one of us showered.

They did put out a lovely spread for breakfast but most of the food on offer was of the sweet variety. The breakfast room/bar area is very dated.

I see from other people's reviews that the staff were very friendly, we didn't find this to be the case. They werent rude by any means but half the time I only got grunts back from some of the staff when I would say hello, or thanks.

Good points about this hotel, the room we were in was clean enough and they would change our towels daily. The rooms have good ar conditioning. And we were given a packed breakfast for the bus journey back to Naples which I thought was nice of them.

You have to pay for your room safe, fridge and sun loungers. They have free WIFI but it only works in the main hotel grounds, not by the pool or in the anexxe building.

Moral of this story...you get what you pay for!!

Room Tip: Do not take room 64!!

Dear Guests,

thank you very much for choosing our hotel for your holiday in Sorrento. I read with great interest your revue and I feel very sorry for your words regarding the hotel. The most important thing for us is to please our customers, so if during your stay you demonstrated your unhappiness certainly we would have helped.
Kind regards

Had a lovely holiday at the Hotel Girasole in July. Weather was very hot, but rooms well air-conditioned and the pool was a real bonus. The pool is set in nice gardens with a pool bar selling 'proper' food and drinks etc, you have to charge it to your room which is great, much less trouble. The hotel is very comfortable, the rooms are not the biggest but you would be really sad to spend much time in your room on this sort of holiday.

Staff were unfailingly charming and polite, the breakfast buffet was great, lots of carbs if you wanted, ham and eggs 'n stuff, fruit too. Every ,morning we eat outside in the wonderful gardens with lemon and orange trees. The pool never got too full ever though it was school holidays, and you could always get a chair. We knew that you had to pay for sunbeds though we never used one because the chairs were comfortable. We did some trips, the railway station is fairly close and the trains are frequent.
We got the bus from the airport, although it took a while and dropped us off in Sant Agnello, so we had to walk from the town with our cases which was tiring. The taxis would not take us to the hotel, insisting the hotel was really near. It is actually a 10 -15 minute walk but we think that he thought we said Hotel Sole which WAS actually near the bus station! so make that clear if you are coming by bus. Going home we treated ourselves to a taxi all the way to the airport which was about 40euros.

We loved this holiday and would come back again. We would suggest it's not the best place for babies or toddlers, mainly because the pool is not that sort of pool, and also because the road is a bit difficult for a pushchair if you wanted to walk into Sorrento which we did some nights. Two nights however we visited local restaurants and they were fine. What's not to like?

Oh we also took a little travel kettle and some coffee and tea as these are not standard in rooms in Italy. They didn't seem to mind. The restaurant is not open all the time, it's not that sort of hotel.

Room Tip: We paid a bit more for a room at the back. A previous review said they all had balconies which was...

This was a last minute holiday - we travelled with Thomson and paid for 'garden view' room however, the room they gave us was on the ground floor virtually under the road - not what we expected. We went straight back to reception and were moved to a high floor witth great views and also given a small bottle of prosecco so were, after a slight hiccup, very happy with the room. The road is very busy, which we expected, but we did get a little fed up of the walk into Sorrento so would stay closer to the centre if we returned - we like walking but not alongside such a busy road. All the hotel staff were very pleasant and the room was spotless. The hotel was a good base for seeing the area and the Amalfi Coast and Pompei were great. We never attend welcome meetings but a guest in the hotel recommended it and it is worth attending for the walk around Sorrento centre and information from the rep. Had a great break but wouldn't return to the Girasole mainly because it's right on the extremely busy road and the walk to the centre is far from pleasant.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a high floor overlooking the garden.
