“Only for people with cars!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We didn't drive, but arrived at Sorrento by train at about 7ishpm. Took the 8pm SITA Blue bus outside the train station to Priora (15mins ride; remember to tell the bus driver u are alighting there!). B&B did not give clear directions how to walk from the Priora bus-stop. After much asking around, we finally reached the B&B after 25mins dragging our heavy luggage (walking w/o luggage will take 15-20min depending on your speed).

Here are the directions you need if you are alighting at Priora bus stop from Sorrento train station:
Once you alight from the bus, backtrack about 10-20metres. Cross the road (IMPORTANT) and you will see a small path that leads to a road. Follow that road all the way till you see the Relais Diana sign. You won't miss it after walking some 15-20mins.

Accommodation wise was good. We were given a room for 4 people and it was more than spacious. Remember to ask Stephanie for the WIFI username and password. Each device needs a unique login ID and PW. Bathroom was good and aircon worked fine. Good sunset view of the town from the verandah outside.

Breakfast was below average, probably average by European standards - cereal, bread and spread i think? A couple of varieties of cake, some pieces of apples. I expected better from a B&B. Like perhaps a customized meal of eggs would be nice.

Getting back down to town is via the Red SITA bus which stops right outside the B&B. You need to ask Stephanie for the schedule of this bus and each trip costs 1 Euro. Beware of the return trip back to the B&B from town. Steph told us the location for where the Red SITA bus would pick us from town back to the B&B and we waited there for 15min before realising that street was closed to vehicles. In the end, we had to take the 10PM blue SITA bus to Priora and brisk walk 15min back to the B&B as we had missed the last Red SITA bus that would have brought us to the B&B direct, When we told Stephanie about this, she said she thought the street was only closed to vehicles on weekend nights; we were there on a weeknight. We were extremely pissed.

She didn't seem helpful when we enquired about the Sorrento to Naples airport by shuttle bus too. On the first day we arrived, she said there was a bus and she would help us check the times and price. The night before we departed we asked if she had checked, she said there was no bus?! Like WTF. We were fuming by then. That was the night we missed the Red bus.

All in all, i would only recommend this B&B if you drive. Don't bother if you are coming by public transport. It's too much a waste of time and money and hassle.

And what a view - the bay of Naples. If you have the room we had, day, sunset or night the view is spectular from your hotel room and from your own adjoining external terrace. I could have quite happliy have spent our stay at the hotel and its grounds but with the Amalfi coast, Pompeii, the Teatro di san carlo and Vesuvius practically on your doorstep it would seem wrong to not visit these as well. Breakfast at Relais Diana is available inside or on the external terrace. Of course ask the staff if it is in order but with the hotel grounds having its own orange and lemon trees there is the opportunity to pick oranges to eat with a breakfast. Mirroring Antonio Carluccio enthusiasm for food and Italy in general by describing it as fantastico we would say this hotel is fantastico.

Stayed for one night last night and it was a dissapointing end to an otherwise perfect trip to the sorrento peninsula.
Rotting fruit and dirty plates at breakfast were the last straw. With the wealth of options in the area I would look elsewhere.

I've been in Sorrento before, and I was really excited about the Relais Diana from reading previous reviews, especially for the mention of its view of the bay. Unfortunately, while we booked a balcony room in the main building, we were given an annex room. When I pointed it out, Stefanie (I think) was apologetic, but unfortunately due to a big birthday party reunion, they had double-booked and we were stuck. She was able to get us a room in the main building for one night, and she helpfully moved all our luggage while we were out. The annex rooms are nice and surrounded by peaceful greenery; they just don't have much of a view.

Just a note, the Relais Diana and its annex the Villa del Angelis is located near Sorrento in the scenic little neighborhood of Priora. If you don't have your own transportation or are not willing to pay 35 euro for a taxi, you have to ride a bus to and from the location. I was expecting the place to be accessible via walking like a previous reviewer said, but the steep, winding, and narrow road (SS145) that goes by Priora is definitely NOT walkable, unless you want to be run over by a bus. The staff was surprised that I thought you could walk there. Another tip is that the local 1 euro bus to/from Priora only runs about every three hours so you have to plan your day accordingly. It usually picks up passengers from Corso Italia near Piazza Tasso, but on the weekends when the street is closed to vehicles, it picks up people from a stop right near the hospital. After a couple hours in the rain searching for the bus and missing it repeatedly, we learned from a really helpful local police officer that you can take a bus from the main train station. On the timetables, there are buses that regularly go by Priora, and can drop you off for an easy 10 minute walk to the place. These buses are the regional buses that require you to buy a ticket in advance. A day pass ticket costs about 7 euro. Anyway, I wish we could have known all this before our adventure.

Aside from this confusion, our experience at the Relais Diana was satisfactory; it's a great value for the price, and the homemade breakfast is delicious. Though I do recommend spending some time closer to the action in the main city if that's your cup of tea.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building, not the annex (Villa del Angelis) are the best.

This place is a total find! It is beautiful! Book the room with the balcony and it is totally worth the little extra for the amazing view! The breakfast is fantastic and the sisters who run it together are super nice. The only thing is, it is farther than I bargained for but really accessible by the bus that leaves from Piazza Tasso. Ask for the bus to Priano and for 1 euro it takes to the front door. You seriously can't beat the beauty or value and totally worth a little bus ride.

Room Tip: room with he Balcony

We stayed in Relais Diana for 4 nights with our 3 teenage kids. We all had a great time : quiet location, friendly staff, clean rooms, we could take our breakfast outside in the sun, ...
It's location is perfect to discover the region. We rented a car at the airport and from the b&b we went to Naples, Capri, Pompei and we took a drive along the Amalfi coast. We were glad to leave the city of Sorrento after dinner every night to return to 'our' calm spot in the hills.

Actually b&b Relais Diana is closed in the low season and what they sell under this name (as its annex) is b&b Villa de Angelis. We traveled with an 8 month old baby and felt really good in the hotel. It is a 5-minute- drive from the center with beautiful view, close enought to the city to visit it but far enought to be in a very nice, quite area. Fresh air, spotlessly clean room with modern design and very nice staff. Lemon and orange trees, playground for children, free parking place. We will surely return with the rest of the family. One useful tip: althought I read in the comments not to do it, I used gps to get to the address. Don't do that or forget about the shortcuts, you can't do that neither with a smaller car. The main road takes you also up to the complex, it's not that narrow and steep. I highly recommend both Relais Diana and Villa de Angelis, it is a perfect place for your holiday!!!! Thank you also for Stefania for all her help and kindness!!!!
