I just returned from 5 days at the Hotel Michelangelo. The Michelangelo is a beautiful hotel - not flashy but just generally a pretty and well-kept hotel. Our room was very nice, very clean and attractive. The location of this hotel is perfect; it is within walking distance of the center of town and the shopping areas. Across the street is a park with lemon trees - make sure to enter and check out the local merchant selling Limoncello and Italian treats. There is a small outdoor pool but it was too cold for swimming. The breakfast was nice. The only negative I would say would be the dining at night could have been better although it wasn't that bad. I found the food pretty mediocre - too much American influence - I would have liked to have had food with more local flair. The staff is nice - definitely spend lots of time at the bar with Giuseppe. He is a treasure. The liquor prices were incredibly reasonable. I would give this hotel a 5 star rating with the only caveat being you may want to dine out at night once or twice to get a nice Italian meal.

hotel michelangelo sorrento From Ldonoghue huddersfield west yorkshire

my wife and i stayed at this hotel in october 2007. every positive comment made by previous reviews is justified, this is a great hotel . the rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard, the bed linen is also changed five times in one week which is well over par [ forgive the the golfing term], the food is in my opinion excellant and if you make the mistake of saying you enjoyed something another plate would appear for you to try something else. the bar drinks are the cheapest in sorrento and there you encounter guisseppe the best barman i have ever met his english is so good because he worked in the uk when he was a very young man he is a cabaret act by himself. when i return to sorrento i would not hesitate booking this hotel

Stayed here for a week in June and was blessed with excellent weather which made the holiday perfect.
We had a great room (104) at the front of the hotel facing the road and altough it is a main road it is a one way street where the hotel is and the traffic wasn't a problem even when all the locals drove round celebrating Napoli's promotion to Serie A .( football). Great balcony for people watching!
Rooms was well decorated, very clean and lovely thick curtains.
We spent most evenings in the fab hotel bar being entetrained by Pepe (Guiseppe) and working our way through the extensive and favourably priced cocktail list.
We really enjoyed the variety of evening meals with different veg each night, very good value and always well cooked.
Location is perfect for individual exploration and the hotel staff were all very helpful sorting out train and boat timetables. We easily took an early train to Pompeii for a few euros and got in before the tour bus crowds.

We stayed here for a week from 14th -21st September and have no hesitation in recommending it. The hotel staff were all helpful and friendly. The hotel is extremely clean and the decor is very attractive. Our room (609) backed onto the railway line but trains didn't disturb us. As it's the end of the line the trains are coming in and going out slowly so not roaring through! We only spent part of one afternoon by the pool. Not a large area but attractive all the same. Due to the hotel's location between the railway and the road there aren't gardens to wander around but there are a few tables outside.

We enjoyed the breakfasts and had four evening meals here, all of which were good. No tinned vegetables whilst we were there. It's a good choice for those like us who use public transport. The bus/rail station were only a few minutes walk away. (Come out of hotel, turn left and first left again). We found the public transport to be inexpensive and punctual. Trip to Pompeii 3 euros return.

Other trips we enjoyed were to Herculaneum, Positano, Amalfi, Vesuvius and the CitySightseeing open bus tour.

If you want to find the Foreigners Club/Port, turn left out of hotel, walk down to Piazza Tasso. Just beyond the bridge there are steps down to the Port. However take the narrow road right next to it. This leads to St. Antonino's Square, then take the road to the right and you will find the Foreigner's Club a little way down. There is a small travel information base here. They were very useful for info. and maps. Also a good place to drink and eat in the evening as the views over the Bay are lovely. The road carries on down to the Port and is an easier walk for those who find steps difficult.

We combined the visit to Herculaneum with the trip to Versuvius. Right outside the station there is a tourist office that runs the trips up to Vesuvius. It was well worthwhile the 16 euros. It takes you to within half a mile of the crater's edge and then you walk the rest of the way. Closed in shoes are good as very gritty.

We had a wonderful holiday and would return to Sorrento again very happily.
