“Very good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

Hotel is in a great location with great views of the gulf. Service here is excellent. Tonino and Luca at front reception were extremely helpful with anything that we asked. Breakfast was also excellent. Wifi did not work in room first night and was very slow next day. I wouldn't say hotel is dated it is just very old fashioned. If you are looking for boutique this is not the one. All in all we had a very good experience.

This is a four star hotel on the Piazza della Vittoria. Certain rooms, the lobby and the front porch have a wonderful view of the coast line. The hotel is less than two blocks from more restaurants than we had time to visit. It is also near shopping and five blocks from the center of this part of town.
The staff is wonderful, professional and courteous. They made us feel like we were staying in the Presidential Suite! Our room spacious, very clean, with our own private patio.
Breakfast was included in the room. A finer breakfast you will never find. We started our day there and always ate way too much.
The pool is very nice and great to sit around for an evening cocktail.
We are already planning a return trip to Sorrento and will stay at the Continental again.

Room Tip: The upper rooms on the coast side have wonderful views of the coast. We stayed in a room with a pr...

Hotel is a bit dated but very charming. I would rather rate as a 3.5 than a 4 star. Fantastic staff and great location. I would strongly recommend one of the rooms with a view. Perfect with the lift inside hotel right down to the beach/beach pier. Mattresses/beds needs to be updated they are not comfortable. Great breakfast!

Room Tip: Select a room with a view!

We only spent one night of our planned two nights at the Hotel Continental because Delta Airlines screwed up my wife's flight to JFK, but the hotel decided to upgrade us to a top floor suite, which made the start of our two week vacation a much better event. The hotel is perfectly located for a view of the water, to go shopping, or to watch wonderful sunsets. The hotel staff is very classy and the staff was amazing. On our next trip to Sorrento we will of course stay again at the Hotel Continental.

Room Tip: Definitely stay on the 5th floor with the water view.

We stayed at the Continental, Sorrento for 4 days recently. I guess for a 4 star hotel it was overrated but perhaps my expectations are high for a 4 star. It is well located but unfortunately the negatives remain dominant - a very hard mattress, but the most disappointing point is that the walls are paper thin and you could hear people very loudly and clearly in the room next door, even when they are abluting in the bathroom! We had to ask reception to phone nearby guests to turn their television down at 11pm, which they did, but you could even hear the receptionist speak on the phone to the guests in their room. Whoa! The last thing you feel like on holidays is not enough sleep as it's rather stressful.

We spent a week at the Continental June 26 - July 3. The hotel is in a fantastic location two minutes from the beginning of the town with many restaurants and shops. It is a 7/8 minute (steep) walk down to the beautiful Marina and harbour. This is well worth the visit - great food and stunning sunsets. The hotel is located about 5/6 minutes walk from Piazza Tasso, the main square and a 10/15 minute walk to the train station.

The hotel is very grand and old style with beautiful furnishings, many large, mainly empty, lounge areas and a large terrace at the front of the hotel overlooking a quiet square and gorgeous views of the bay. The swimming pool is very large and the area around it is very nice with a pool bar and restaurant. The food at the pool is excellent. And the sunbeds are plentiful and no-one seems to be rushing down at 7am to reserve them. There was always enough and they are really comfortable!

Breakfast is large and varied. Every day there was a different choice of hot dishes, quiches/pies, sausages, eggs, vegetarian options and gluten-free breads/pastries. The dining room is managed by the charming and helpful Antonio, who knows all the guests and chats with everyone and makes new faces very welcome. Every evening from 7-8 there is a Happy Hour with half priced drinks and nibbles. We took advantage of this to try many of Giovanni's amazing cocktails.

We had rooms 308 & 306. We paid extra for sea view and balcony. The views are amazing, to be able to watch the sun set and rise over the bay is beautiful. Room 308 was large and very comfortable but 306, with two single beds, was very small. If we return I would not be happy with that room again. Although it would be ok for one person or small kids. Our 18 & 21 yr olds had it - very cramped. The rooms are cleaned twice a day and it's very nice to come home after dinner to find fresh towels, the room tidied and the beds turned down.

A couple of negatives: there are no kettles in the room. This is a very English thing, but it's nice to have a kettle for a cuppa before bed! We did get hot water from the bar a couple of times but it had a horrible taste so didn't bother again. As a number of people have already noted, the beds are not very comfortable - time to upgrade the mattresses. The gym is very poorly appointed. It wouldn't take a lot of money to update the equipment and put better weights and a couple more machines in even though it does have running machines. Having a gym was one of our requirements and we were very disappointed. The billiards table is an old-fashioned billiards game - no pockets! There were also no cues available! Little things but worth noting.

But the hotel is excellent and it is the staff that make it so. Antonio in the restaurant is wonderful, Giovanni is fantastic, he even brought in some of his wife's pesto for my husband one day (it was amazing!), Franco the waiter, was lovely and spoilt our 18yr old daughter with all his attention (he's definitely 50+, at least!) and Valentino the very sweet cocktail waiter who I think was a little amazed at all the cocktails we drank! They are the real stars of the hotel and I am sure they are the reason so many people seem to be returning guests. This is all pulled together by Salvatore, the very efficient and helpful reception manager who offers advice about trips, restaurants and any thing you need to know.

A fantastic holiday. Sorrento is beautiful, the hotel and it's staff, wonderful. We look forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: The rooms we had were quiet and had fantastic views. 308 was spacious with a large bathroom. 306 w...

What a thoroughly lovely hotel with lovely staff (very male orientated but they are full of cheer, they’re very helpful and give you a very personal service – they are a great asset to the hotel). The hotel is in a great location – easy 5 mins walk to the main square, a 10 mins walk down to the Fisherman's Village & a 10 mins walk to the Marina for the ferries to Capri etc. Lovely large pool although it’s quite chilly (but you kind of get used to it after a few days). The breakfast was fantastic – a great choice of cereals, eggs, cold meats, cheese, bread, pastries, cakes etc (I gained 5lbs). We had a standard room with balcony & sea view which is well worth it in my opinion (some rooms without sea view will currently overlook the next door building site). The room is fairly basic but very adequate and very clean (with fresh towels morning & evening with the turndown service). There is a lift straight down to the beach/jetty if you want to be by the sea (although the beach isn’t great & it’s very busy with the locals – but a swim off the jetty early evening was nice). I only have two negatives – the next door building which I mentioned earlier has apparently been under construction for a few years and Monday to Friday it is noisy if you are sitting by the pool each day with drilling, banging, scraping etc (and that coupled with the kids in the apartment right next to the pool doesn’t make for a very peaceful day - so iPod is highly recommend)! The other negative is the gym – it is very antiquated, half of the machines don’t work and there is no aircon so it gets very hot (we could only manage 30 mins max each morning before we were ready to pass out). The hotel could really do with spending some money on it. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would return in a flash.

Room Tip: We had room 405 - great view.
